I put in a copy of Casablanca on Blu ray disc tonight and noticed something that puzzled me. The player (Pioneer BDP-330) is hooked up to an old JVC 27" 4:3 television. When I set the player's tv aspect to 4:3 and tell it to letter box the image I get a vertically stretched image with pillarboxing. Setting it to pan & scan does the same thing. If I display it with a fixed aspect ratio the image is windowboxed. Is this normal? Some of the bonus content displays fine so is the encoding on the movie at fault or what?
