New job, new location, moving to Chantilly, VA!

HTF Friends: I'm starting a new job in Chantilly, VA in January. I know there's a handful of you East Coast-ers, one or two in that region, so maybe I'll get to meet some of you in person in 2012 :)

My new job is on the 'dark side', and I probably won't have any internet access during the day come January. My HTF involvement plummet :( We'll see how things go

I've got to move a house, sell a house, maybe buy a house. Sort out a medical thing that might require surgery. And succeed at a new and challenging job that wanted me to start last week. It's going to be a wild ride the next 12 months!

I'll let Dancing Banana wrap it up:

Congratulations!!   And best of luck in your new venture!

Congrats, that can't be too far from the counterparts I work with up here. I've traveled there twice in the last year, certainly a very busy part of VA but still outside the 495 beltway. Flying into Dulles both times. Hope the move works out well, it's certainly warmer than Rochester!

Alas, they get Buffalo-like Blizzards, but think they're the "South" and don't have to learn to plow or use snow tires ;)

Spring time and Fall will be nice. Summer will be muggier than I'm used to. Winter should start later and be milder in general. And they get hurricanes. I'm not sure it's really a weather upgrade. More a side-grade. :)

Bonus will be closer to the neat air-space museum that might actually be in Chantilly, VA. Minus, being close to Washington politics...

And get prepared for insane traffic density too, I found the place crazy with traffic along Rt 66, Rt 495, etc. The whole place seemed paved and a lot of divided highways so there is a convoluted way to make a left turn... :-)

I can take a wild guess or two at where you'll be working at . I haven't been on this forum in a long time but I think I remember what you got your PhD in years ago so it is a good match.

Lived in this area my entire life. Let me know if you have any questions or need help.

Will do :) There's a bunch of companies in the same general area in my business. I'll be at one of them. (I don't actually know yet where I'm officed...)

Blizzards are pretty few and far between, ditto hurricanes.  You are right that spring and fall are awesome - in fact the weather has been super mild thus far (t shirt weather on Sunday).  If you dont like humidity in the summer than be prepared to be unhappy...

Congratulations on the new gig!

Gee, Dave.

I missed this news completely.  My daughter and her husband just moved from Fairfax, VA back to upstate NY.

I know they are excited about their new opportunities.  I hope the same is true for you.

This news makes me even sorrier that I never got the chance to hook up with you on that road trip to SVS.  Ah well...

Whoa, space-time warp batman! tongue.gif

I've been through Chantilly, there is supposedly a great Thai place there that I have on the agenda. We have offices in Fair Lakes and folks in Manasses so I spent a few days in and around that section of pavement.

Exactly, it was intentional. Been working on a special project with long hours. We ate well but didn't get out much.

Tyson's area is just crazy, had no idea they had the first Apple store. It's huge, almost too empty. Except full of people. The Microsoft store upstairs was so sad and devoid of people.

I've been here since Dec 30. Working since Jan 3. Hotel, now apartment. It's going OK. it's such a big adjustment, changing jobs, homes, locations. Everything.

My wife likes the area a lot (which is very important. The traffic is an adjustment. And I don't know what I'm going to do about housing long term. There's a construction boom here, but I'm worried about the market entering 2013. This area is heavily dependent on the Feds for jobs and next year ... it doesn't look encouraging.
