rear and center speakers not functioningfor musics and movies

I just bought my LG hometheater system last month.

I enjoyed the musics and sounds without noticing that only the front and subwoofer and 2 fron speakers are functioning. I tried to adjust the sound using the remote control and test it. Luckily, all speakers are functional during the test. my big problem now is that, why is it that there 3 speakers (1 center and 2 rear) are not functioning when ever I play something on it?

Anybody who knows how to troubleshoot it??? Your help is highly appreciated!!!

If you can provide the model number of your home theater system, it would help a great deal.

 

From your description, it sounds like the reciever is set to "stereo" or some other non-digital surround sound mode.  When in stereo, only the front L/R and subwoofer (if it's set up to use the subwoofer) will be used.

 

Put in a DVD or Blu-Ray and try changing the surround mode.  See if your remote has something like "Direct", "Multichannel", or even "ProLogic" options.  Every manufacturer is different in how they describe the surround modes, so again, a model number will help dramatically.

 

Finally, it will help to know how you have your devices connected to this system.  If you're using analog stereo (Red/White RCA cables) your options may be more limited.  If you're using a digital connection (optical or coaxial) there should be no reason we can't get digital surround to work properly.
