Marantz SR5006 or Harman AVR 2650???

I'm planning on upgrading my receiver and I'm looking at these two models. I've owned products from both manufacturers before and paired together they were outstanding. The features I care most about seem to be pretty similar between the two. I've owned a H/K Receiver before and I must say it was outstanding even after several decades of use. I've also owned a pair of Marantz Towers that were great as well. Any suggestions that could help push me over the edge on buying one or the other? I'm leaning towards the Marantz solely because of the aesthetics currently.

Thanks to all who take the time to respond.

Neither offer 6/8 ch analog inputs or pre-outs anymore (actually, the 5006 does have 7.1 ch analog inputs and pre-outs for the front speakers. opps-my bad). Both are pretty strong receivers. Marantz has Audyssey which gives you the option of setting the eq yourself. H/K's EZSetEQ doesn't allow the user to adjust the eq. I would go with Marantz for music and H/K for movies/tv. You can save a lot of money by buying last years 5005 or 2600. Ac4l.com has the 5005 new for $459.99 + shipping while Amazon has the 2600 for $389 shipped.

Thanks for the input Gene. I am leaning towards the Marantz as of right now based on the fact that I'm a lot more inclined to listen to high def audio, and I don't believe that the 5005 or the 5006 are slouches in the video department as well. Also, doesn't the 5006 still have analog inputs and pre-outs, according to Marantz's Website Specs? Maybe I'm missing something, I am definitely a novice when it comes to HT specs and set up.

Thanks again!

The H/K would also be fine for music as would the Marantz for movies. I just think H/K has a very clear, almost elevated, mid-range and Marantz is a bit more "musical". But most would think I'm splittin' hairs or just plain nuts!

The 5006 does have 7.1 channel analog inputs (I was wrong about that blush.gif ) but only pre-outs for the front speakers (and the sub, of course).

I'm sort of eyeing the Marantz SR5006 as a potential replacement for my old Yamaha RX-V2095. However, I use it mostly for gaming, TV, music, and movies in that order. So I'm not sure now, since it sounds from your advice that Marantz perhaps not the best pick for this.

Either would really be fine. Like I said, I was splittin' hairs! They're both very good receivers and can be found at very good prices. The 5006 is $459 + shipping at ac4l.com ($399 as a refurb) but last years H/K 2600 is a steal at $389 shipped from Amazon.

When I finally get my basement finished I plan to upgrade my system somewhat, so I need to look into the future as well. I'd like to do 2 subwoofers. Should I be looking at a unit that has 2 outputs then? Or can you run 2 powered subs off 1 output?

I noticed the SR6005/6 have 2 outputs.

I also noticed that the Denon AVR-3110 can be had refurbished for a very low price at ac4l. Only 1 sub output though.

As far as I know both subwoofer outputs output the same signal so one output with a Y-splitter accomplishes the same thing.

Denon probably has a few more features than H/K or Marantz so choose the one that best fits your needs. Audyssey is a bit more poular, and flexable than H/K's EZSetEQ.
