Signature help.

Thread Starter
Hello,

I noticed some time ago that my signature on the HTF disappeared. I don't mind that TPTB may not want it here, but I think whatever action was taken is affecting other Boards that I continue to post on, unfortunately. May I ask why my signature was removed?

Posters on other Boards are seeing a logon box (marked 'Restricted') that contains two boxes. At the top of the box it reads Connect to events at Hometheaterforum.com. Here is the URL:

hometheaterforum.com/images/Ockeghem2

If you key it into your browser, you will (hopefully) see the logon box that I see.

When I try to input info. (such as my user name and password) into the two boxes, I receive a 401 Authorization required message. Please advise as to how I can get this box not to show up any longer. Thanks.

Scott:

I don't know why your signature may have been removed. It wouldn't have been done without contact you in so way. Software glitch? I haven't heard of any similar inconveniences.

Why do you suppose other forums would have a reaction to your HTF sig?!? I'm admittedly rather dim on such things.  Are you using an image ont he HTF server as your avatar on these other sites?  That wouldn't be affected by your sig...

I'll see if I can get you an answer.

In the meantime, I was able to put a TEST sig in place which seems to work. Have you tried reinstating whatever it was you had there? I'm ashamed to admit I forget what was.

Mike,

Thanks for the help. smile.gif

I will check other computers that I use. I have no idea why other Forums (Boards) would see this odd box.

And yes, every time I try to reinstate the signature that I had previously, I cannot do it. Instead, a box pops up with the info. I posted above. Odd, eh?

The signature was of two composers and two images of manuscripts.

Mike: Are you seeing the signature at the bottom of my posts? I am not.

Edit: Here is the wording included with the box that I see instead of the signature:

The server events.hometheaterforum.com at Restricted requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).

I am seeing your signature that I created simply by typing some text into your sig field on your Profile Page.  See below:

I have alerted Adam and the other owners to see if they have any idea what's going on.

Mike,

Thanks. It's curious, for sure. I appreciate the help. smile.gif

Can you see the "TEST Signature" text I've inserted into your sig?

Mike,

No, I cannot see it. I am going to try a couple of other computers to see if the Test signature appears on them. I will get back to you.

Can you see my signature?

Maybe your ability to see signatures got turned off accidentally...or through software glitch?

Mike,

That was a very useful question to ask. No, I cannot see yours either. Hmmm.

Edit: Okay, I have tried the HTF link on a couple of other computers. My signature is not on any of them. It's been quite a while since I saw the signature. I just assumed that it was taken away by HTF for some reason. Of course, that doesn't explain its absence on two other Boards that I post on. Very odd.

Addendum:

Mike,

I think it's been figured out. A friend from another Board has fixed it. Now all I need is the link to go to in order to edit my signature.

And BTW, I can see your 'Test signature' now.

Mike,

I've replaced your test link with the link to the image that is my signature. What I don't know how to do is to turn the link into the image. It's working fine on other Boards. I'm guessing that it's an easy fix for you. smile.gif

I wish it was an easy fix for me...

I have been trying for awhile...and can't get the image to appear in the sig.

I can get it to appear in a post:

78

I've got the proper info posted in the signature field...and when I go into your profile to edit it, it appears...but I can't get it to appear in posts on the forum.  So, I have also put back the clickable link as well.

We're getting closer.

Maybe something in the software has changed that doesn't allow images in signatures...

That could be why it appeared as if we took your signature away a few weeks ago.

You should have spoken up then!  laugh.gif

Mike,

When I first included the image in my signature, it was (I think) Ron Epstein who did it for me. If it wasn't Ron, then it was Michael Reuben. Whomever did it for me, I thanked them, and was quite grateful! I recall writing to them beforehand to get their approval since the signature contained a choir book (music); as such, I didn't want it to be against the politics - religion rules. It was obviously okayed at the time. smile.gif

BTW, thank you for your help with this. It's not a big deal, but it's somewhat of a mystery.

Well now you're just poking me with a big stick!  biggrin.gif

If Ron or Michael can do it, by gosh I should be able to figure it out, too!  laugh.gif  (Unless, of course, the software has been changed with regard to images in signatures).

Hello Scott!

I apologize for coming into this late.  Been traveling.  Want to thank

Mike Frezon for spending time with you on this.

First, I want you to know that we did not purposely remove your signature.

There is nothing offensive about it, and had we any objections to anything

you placed there, you probably would have been contacted privately first.

What I am going to do is contact the software team at Huddler and find

out why there are signature complications.  As far as I know, there are no

restrictions to images being uploaded to that field.

Please give me a little bit of time to investigate this further.  I will get

back to you as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I am very sorry for the problem you have been experiencing.

Ron,

Thanks! Much appreciated. And there's no hurry. I was just curious what was up with it. On two other Boards, whenever someone opened a page where I had posted, they (ostensibly due to my using the same signature on every Board on which I post) received a prompt from the HTF to enter an HTF login. My friend (the one who fixed the problem on the other two Boards) suggested that something must have changed on HTF's side, but we don't know for certain. She also suggested that it might be because I was using your (HTF's) webspace to host my signature on other boards, which some sites frown upon, since it would (I think) use HTF's bandwidth, which is paid for. But this is just speculation.

Scott,

Question:  When was the last time you actually saw your photo

in your signature?

Was it since we moved to the Huddler platform back in 2009?

I ask this because I am being told that the present Huddler platform

does not support photos in the signatures.  So, technically, there

should never have been a photo in your signature.

When we were on vBulletin, signatures in photos were supported.

Scott:

Another question.  Do you have a PM trail (or e-mails) which might point to how (or by whose hand) the image got into your signature after the software switchover to Huddler?  A thread in Feedback, perhaps?

Anything would be helpful to create a timeline in order to figure some things out.

I just did a forum-wide search and only found this thread...

Ron,

I think you've probably just solved the mystery. Yes, I believe that it's been that long (since the inception of the Huddler platform). Thank you for your assistance with this. smile.gif

Mike,

No, I'm afraid I don''t have any of that information. Sorry about that. It seems with what Ron wrote above (photos not being allowed in signatures), that it really isn't too important any longer. Thanks, though. smile.gif
