I'm telling ya, she just needs someone to mentor her and teach her how to make good decisions in her life.

What's up with this week's release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? I thought that was released a month ago?
...and I suppose the sequel will be called "The Scale Strikes Back"?

I don't think DIsney released the separate DVD of the movie back then. It was a Blu-ray combo pack or nothing if you want the DVD. They've been doing this with some of the releases for a while now.

Good question.  I have no certain answer--but conjecture.

What I do know is that I had a DVD release of Stranger Tides in the 10-18-2011 WRU.  But I'm not 100% certain it was ever released.  I only question it because I actually had two friends of mine both claim they couldn't find a DVD-only version of Stranger Tides anywhere.  Then, I saw this release in the "New Releases" lists I use and on the retailer websites/flyers for this week.

Disney has been known to hold back DVD-only releases lately (The Lion King for just one example)...so I'm guessing the 10-18 Starnger Tides DVD release never happened...although it was listed at various places.

And I actually showed one of my friends where there WAS a DVD only release of Stranger Tides listed on amazon a couple of weeks ago.  So I know it WAS listed there...

Thanks Matt & Mike. I swear I saw the DVD only release at Walmart last month, as I debated how much I wanted to spend on the title (I didn't actually buy any, hoping it's a Black Friday title somewhere).

I have added the link to Kevin's review of Beginners to the OP.  thumbsup.gif

Not sure what's up with that title either.  Amazon is the only place I could find Beginners for sale this week...

Unfortunately, you are left hanging, as Fox shut down production right after that last episode was in the can. Although Serenity does not take place after right after that episode, it does manage to tie up some loose ends rather well.

I can say that there are bigger laughs in the series, and my favorite episode is one that never aired on the FOX network (who also aired the episodes out of order), Trash.

I'm also tempted by the Firefly deal. I've seen Serenity (and thought it was ok), but not the series. Is the series better and did it come to some kind of end or are you left hanging?

MattCr has reviewed Being Human: Season 1 (2011).  The link is in the OP.

For those of you near a Fred Meyer, they are advertising the Dragons DVD+BD Combo set for $12.99.  Amazon has lowered their price to $16.99, so its the best deal out there by far if you are interested in the title.

Just be aware this new Dragons title (Gift of the Night Fury) is not a full-length feature. IMDB says it's only 22 minutes. Just a quick cash grab for the holidays, I think, and it may appear on network TV at some point in the near future.

And Book of Dragons sounds more like a bonus feature, not an actual film/short. I'm not sure why it warrants its own separate DVD.

Supposedly there will be a true theatrical Dragons sequel in the future.

Picked up the final Harry Potter over the weekend. Looking forward to getting Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis (this was the first version I saw) and trying to decide whether I need blu-ray Farscape!

Btw, Mike, it was great seeing you, Peg and Kelly at the big book signing. Congrats again and thanks for letting me be a small part of it. And the best thing... I got my own autographed copy!

==================

I'm gonna pick up a conversation begun in last week's WRU.

I went to my local Target today with one thing in mind:  to pick up the Target exclusive digibook Blu of West Side Story and to see if they had copies of the blu of My Fair Lady.

1.)  They had no copies of My Fair Lady and I didn't se any spot on the shelf for them.

2.)  They had several copies of WSS...but each and every one had the "spider" security device attached to it.  And each and every copy had damage because of it.  I had to scrutinize each and every copy in order to be sure I got the copy with the least amount of damage.  I would have asked someone in the department if they had copies in the back without the security devices, but I was in a real big rush.

And, yes, the associate at my register did NOT know how to take the device off and needed to call over another associate.  rolleyes.gif

If Target is going to be one of the major DVD/Blu-ray software retailers, they really need to figure out better security systems to protect their stock and still keep their customers happy.

Maybe it's Target's way off warning you off problematic titles!smile.gif

According to what I've heard, that's on there to protect kids from all the objectionable content in that movie. Well, I guess there are gang fights in West Side Story. smile.gif

Yes there is a Fred Meyer near me so I will be checking this out tonight. Thanks!

I believe they're working on a theatrical sequel as well as a TV series.
