Must've been a new update today -- 11-8-2011? - Page 2

Did something change yesterday in the "Pause Live Updates" / "Show Live Updates" function?  I always had that toggle set to "Pause", and I'd be notified of new posts by a small banner that said "View New Updates" or some such.  Clicking that would refresh the list of threads, moving those with new posts to the top.

Yesterday evening I found the page refreshing itself and I saw that the "Show Live Updates" was the highlighted choice, so I changed it back to "Pause".  I remember something causing that subject to come up for a few of us a month or two back, which is when I learned what that setting was for.  Anyway, I soon found I hadn't fixed it, but it took a little time and experimenting for me to realize that the setting would no longer stay where I put it.

When I click on the "Pause" selection, it's highlighted and appears that I've changed it, but it changes right back to "Show" whenever any of these things happen:  (1) when I click anywhere on the page (even a blank area) if a new post has been made; (2) when I click on another browser tab (I'm using Chrome) then return to the HTF tab; and (3) when I minimize the browser and restore it.  If I'm staring at the page and a new post is made, I can see the "View New Updates" banner briefly flash on the screen, but the threads are reordered before I can do anything about it.  Bottom line, I no longer have control over displaying threads with new responses -- it's as though the function is broken, or was reprogrammed.

If I'm confusing a couple of different functions or am wrong about how any of this should work, just say the word.

FYI, I'm usually starting from the "Home" (Recent Home Theater Forum Activity) page.

My "Subscribed Threads" page is also acting funky.

It is updating the subscribed threads on its own...but not "unbolding" those to which I've subscribed but have checked.

I have tried to push the "pause (live updates)" button...but it seems to want to do it anyway and reset itself in the process.

I don't touch these settings...ever...so I can never remember how they are supposed to be ...but I believe I am supposed to be in "pause" and the page tells me that I have new posts in subscribed threads...but I have to click either a yellow banner at the top of the page or hit the "subscriptions" button.

Grrrrr.  I just went back to my "subscribed threads" page and it had already taken itself off pause and was juggling my list of threads.

Today it's behaving differently still, by updating and shuffling the threads without my doing anything at all, notably while I'm away from the computer for long stretches of time.  There's no "Pause" functionality whatever.

Hold the phone.  Stop the presses.

Right now -- like, just since I left to grab some lunch and came back and reviewed some threads -- "Pause" is not only saying "on", it's working just like it used to.

How about that!  I wonder if we were talking in a vacuum....or if someone was listening in?  I also wonder if anyone else even noticed?  laugh.gif

I think it takes the discerning eye of a true gentleman and scholar to spot this kind of thing..

My list of subscriptions is acting a little quirky tonight.

I can post in a thread and NOT have that thread jump to the top of my list of subscribed threads.  It seems like some of my threads just aren't sorting right tonight.

Yeah, all my subscribed threads are not sending me email notifications when a new post is added. Must have stopped working for me since yesterday, Saturday.

We along with some other sites have found some wonkyness with subscriptions.  Mike F actually gave me a heads up and we did some testing this weekend and I opened a ticket on it.  As I mentioned there are some other sites having the same problem and it is being worked on.  Hopefully I will have an update tomorrow.

Thanks!

Adam, any updates on the ticket for immediate notification to subscribed threads not working? I'm still not getting email updates on threads. But I found some threads are notifying me, but some others where I participate in a lot is not notifying me.

Thanks!

I also have a number of threads which are not updating for me on-site.

The subscription issue should be fixed now.

Adam,

Yes, I started getting more emails late yesterday and first thing today. Thanks!
