Review Thread Giveaways

Hi folks,

 

Is there any way we could move the blu-ray give away contests to their own threads instead of having people post in the review threads?  I like to click in the review threads to read what people thought about the movie, and any discussion about the movie, but lately it's just a thread of 'Pick me!', 'Me too!' posts.

 

I'm certainly not demanding anything, just offering my feedback.

Hah!  It's kinda like going to a fight and having a hockey game break out! 

 

I agree.  I commented during the thread on the release of the blu-ray of The Lion King that I thought the contest "co-opted" the review thead.

 

Like Jeff, I support the contest giveaways wholeheartedly...and the reviews are one of the best things about the HTF.  But adding the dozens of "sign me up!" posts in the reviews makes it pretty hard for a good discussion to get started.

Maybe someone w/ the power can move the entire bunch of contest posts into a separate contest thread for posterity.  Not sure if that's actually doable, but thought I'd suggest anyway. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the feedback.  The contests serve two purposes: Give away good stuff to HTF members banana.gif and bring more attention to the review.  I'll try to see if I can come up with a new way of running them that meets both objectives.

I think I can maybe make that happen.  It will take some selective pruning.  Give me a day or two.

I gave up on trying to prune them, but I have (as a trial) started running the contests a bit differently.  Here are some examples:

 

Stars and Stripes Forever

 

Kung Fu Panda 2

 

I'm open to any pro/con feedback.
