I've been using iOS 5 for a few months, can't wait to see you guys reactions to it. iCloud is kinda neat too, and iTunes Match is badass!

Do I need to upgrade to Lion to use iCloud or iOS5?

(A BusyCal update note said as much.)

Yes:  John Gruber & Dan Benjamin were just discussing it on the talk show.

I am not going to iCloud for the time being, until they at least clear up our 2 MobileMe accounts with one Apple ID situation.

On a whim, I tried logging into iCloud from work...success! And it tells me I need Lion. So I'll be upgrading this week it seems.

(Haven't gotten the latest Talk Show yet. Do you listen live?)

I wouldn't hold my breath. If it's not out today it's not happening any time soon. And since they haven't let the developers at it yet, I'd say no way it's going to regular users for weeks or months if ever.

As I put in the other thread. On my iPad I love the new split keyboard! I also am going to love iMessage to send free texts to the wife ( I have no texting plan) and I love the new notifications and swipe down feature/

Not sure about iTunes Match being badass. Some longer tracks (more common with classical music) appear to choke if you try to play them back over 3G or even Wi-Fi in some cases. I'm going to reinstall iOS5. I found Safari on my existing install to be unbearably sluggish...at least when trying to type a URL in the URL bar...I've seen delays of several seconds from when I start typing a URL to when it finally appears.

Wait. I need to have Lion on my Mac to use iOS5 on my iPad and iPod Touch?

The Apple network is getting slammed today. Updates are taking about 20x as long as normal.

It's the keyboard, it actually thinks you are going to hold down keys to get the unlaut or other accents. It's a bug that was filed many times in beta and I was shocked it still made it through.

I hateses it...

you need Lion to use iCloud on your Mac, including its email and calendar system syncing to your Mac apps.

One thing I wanted to talk about and give some warnings was this Me.com to iCloud transition plus the face that you have to have an Apple ID that's an email address BS.

Both are huge pain in the ass, but I made it work because I don't REALLY rely on a lot of the MobileMe features.

I transitioned my AppleID to an email address pretty easily, I think I did it right in iTunes. That then became my default iCloud ID. If I had wanted to, I could have kept my purchases tied to that account and then transitioned my Mobile Me account to iCloud and used THAT ID for my my iCloud syncs. There is NO WAY to merge the two. It sucks and is dumb and is a huge pain in the ass.

But then I said "I dont use the mobile me email or any of the crap that's not transitioning like galleries or any of that, all I use is the calendar and contacts syncing."

And you know what? That crap was already on my iPad cause it was synced there from mobile me. There was nothing stopping me from syncing that to my NEW iCloud account which is tied to my 10 year old Apple ID that I've had since the ITMS launched. So that's what I did. It just copied the stuff over and it will use that as the new archive. Boom it's still protected off site for me and now I have another email address I will never use but so what. My contacts and calendars and all my purchases (almost) are working fine. And now I only have one account I care about with Apple, so I got that going for me.

The almost? It's telling me my TV show purchases, or one in particular anyway, aren't authorized to this account. I downloaded it off my iCloud account using iTunesInTheCloud so no idea why it says I'm not authorized. Whether that's because I changed the name or some other probem I still don't know. But I can live with it, until I can get to a genius to take a look at it anyway.

More to follow.

I haven't figured out how to get photos in itunes yet. I thought it was now the location where you could store all photos. Actually, I haven't figured out how to access cloud info in itunes either. But I have my iPad and iPhone up to date.

I figure a quick update, because I've had about 18 uses run into this and FREAK OUT

We couldn't test this during the beta, it looks pretty badass tho. I might actually subscribe to a few magazines this way.

Ok, call me a fool, but where is match?  I've navigated everywhere in iTunes, and I don't see it at all

Upgrade everythign last night and this morning (iOS5 on iPhone 4, Lion, iCloud, itunes). Mostly smooth, if slow ~8 hours to do it)

But...

* iCloud Calendar entries are all 3 hrs too early. I found that iCal / iCloud default to Pacific time. i fixed that, but it didn't fix the calendar entries. Don't know what to do.

* can't figure out how to share iWork documents into iCloud. Do I use the iWork Beta? Drag them into iTunes? Don't understand this yet.

* iCloud backout doesn't work yet.

Generally awesome, but some important bugs remain -- at least on during initial launch.

Match is only available on the Beta iTunes (r9 I think). Match is still beta and won't be released to public till end of month.

Omg all the enhancements with notifications and the low battery warning still cannot be suppressed or at least turned into a banner? Wth
post #26 of 93
Also, I do not seem to have the switch to do a location based reminder, is this a 4s feature only?

Um, that would be a horrible idea. The battery notification SHOULD interrupt you, unlike every other note.

OK so I can set sounds when I get a new text, can I set a different sound when I have a text/iMessage outgoing?

BTW, this is not going to end well:
http://www.macdrifter.com/2011/10/star-wars-alert-tones/

=)

Also, when I buy a tone on my iPhone my iPad doesn't get it. If I click on it in the iTunes store on the pad it says I've already purchased it, do I want to purchase it again, not do I want to download it again for free...

My calendar problem fixed itself after a few hours, after changing the timezone set.

iCloud backup worked yesterday evening; uploaded 750 MB overnight.

I screwed up my calendar with BusyCal and lost several older entries.

Setup a shortcut for messaging my wife, to let her know I'm coming home from work.

I'm very pleased with iOS5.
