TVs - WOW lots of info to digest for a novice!

I just completed building a rather sizable home and need to purchase several TVs for various rooms and areas. I have been to the big box retailers and picked their brains but figured I would get some unbiased "professional" feedback from anyone here who wishes to toss in their two cents! I am NOT looking for high end nor am I concerned about all the crazy features available, just need to stay within a limited budget because I have so many to buy. Here are my questions:

1) Our great room is HUGE and needs a BIG TV. Our 6 year old 50" Plasma is dwarfed in here. Is the Sharp Aquas 70" LED (at Costco) a decent TV for $2700?

2) I have two spots on our patio that will have (apx. 40") TVs mounted. While they will get NO direct sunlight, our region (Carefree, AZ) does get pretty hot in the summer (around 105 for daily highs) and pretty cold in the winter (typically freezes at night). Are there any models that claim to handle temp variations better than others? Are any models recommended for glare reduction over others? Is plasma or LED better?

I greatly appreciate any insight available!

For the big 70"-plus display, if budget is a big concern (and presumably, you don't want to go front projection for the "great room"), I would probably look at Mitsubishi's DLP RPTVs before deciding.  Maybe you could even consider their 80"-plus models given your budget although you might rather save the $ for something else instead (like bulb replacements and/or ISF calibration).
