Very much like the game of Portal?

hahahha   That's what I thought when she kept looping around.  I thought I had seen one of them appear not in the house earlier in the season; I guess not.  Well.. that certainly makes things interesting.

So the only people we're sure aren't dead/are air breathers are;

Ben
Vivian
Constance
The burned dude
The real estate lady

And some ancillary characters like the security guy.

The rest are breathing dirt.

What did Tate say to the exterminator? Something along the lines of "you'll die for what you did?" is that what I heard?

They can be anywhere on the property. We know that first because Violet made it to the gate when she was trying to escape Tate, and because she'd made it to the driveway with Vivien that one time after ODing, and when Moira first appeared she was just inside the gates. I think there's like an inner bubble and and outer bubble; there's some resistance to the ghosts leaving the house, but it can be done with focused deliberation. But they absolutely can't leave the grounds of the property, except on Halloween.

Most risqué line of the night? Constance calling her former husband dog shit, and then we find out she literally ground him up into hamburger and fed him to the dogs, becoming literal dog shit.

Given what we heard when Larry was retrieving Travis's clothes, and the absence of the exterminator's body when Tate showed Violet her body, I think there's a good possibility the ex-terminator survived the poisoning and managed to make it out alive. And yes, Tate taunted him as he was poisoning him for some sins either real or imagined. If real, it definitely plays to the theory that Tate is Satan.

Well, I would say the second part of the Halloween story was better than the first. The sad scene in the first part was one of the series' standout scenes so far. However, plenty went on in the second part. Is it possible that they can get Zachary Quinto back for another episode? That scene on the morning after Hallowe'en was done really well (including the disappearing Hayden in the back of the car). There's one thing about it, this series is never dull. Intriguing promo at the end of the episode with Constance.

Best. Episode. Yet.

Great episode - still one of the hardest shows to watch, but also one of the most compelling.

You realize she could be off the property because the ghosts can leave the house on Halloween night right? She vanished at the exact moment they were all returning to the house.

John's got it exactly right. What's interesting is that the spirits' annual one day hall pass doesn't appear to be midnight to midnight on October 31st, but rather sunrise on Halloween until sunrise the following morning.

The ironic thing about this show is that getting killed is the best job security an actor or actress can have, if they die on the grounds of the property. Even if the show sticks to its guns with a new family moving in every season, Taissa Farmiga's got a job on at least a recurring or guest starring basis for the length of the series -- all because Violet died.

I also quite enjoyed and appreciated the way Violet's attempts to leave were handled.

ah! I did in fact miss that nuance.

The house the show is set in, 1120 Westchester Place, is on the market.

I actually found the history between the show and the house pretty interesting. The show shot the entire pilot on location in the house. Both the interiors and exteriors in the pilot are actually the house you see.

When FX picked the show up for series, the production crew painstakingly duplicated the entire interior of the house on sound stages, exactly identical down to the light fixtures. You walk into the actual house and you walk into the sets, and it's exactly the same layout and exactly the same dimensions for every room.

The entire first floor is on one sound stage, and the second floor is on another. The main staircase is duplicated for both. Presumably this gave them a lot more shooting flexibility and allowed the "Harmons" to renovate the house in a far more radical fashion than the current owners would have allowed. The exteriors are still shot on location at the actual house.

Pretty cool Adam, thanks for sharing. Would love to taake a stroll through that place.

Me too. Except the basement. I don't think I could go down there, even knowing it's all fake.

This show just blows my mind every week. Terrific ending, with Violet finally confronting Tate. They've always had a Twilight/Romeo & Juliet thing going on, but with a really dark undercurrent. It was nice to see Violet say, I'm in love with you but I need to take a moral stand because I find you reprehensible. Vivien being there when Violet needed her most was just wonderful. In a way, Vivien's finally free of all the bullshit that's been swirling in her life since the miscarriage.

Ben's finally starting to get it, even though he's not quite ready to accept it.

Was the child Ben fathered really stillborn? Or did Charles Montgomery just say that so he could give it to his wife? What does the baby Tate fathered look like?

Interesting with the medium. The scene by the furnace would imply that she's full of bullshit. But she knew that Violet was a ghost when Constance didn't, and she communicated telepathically with Violet.

Also interesting was the way the house exerts its will. It wanted that baby brought into the world, so it helped to make that happen, arranging just the right ghosts for the job.

Another excellent episode.

That house is getting very crowded.

The episode "Piggy, Piggy" was a very good episode. Not sure whether I like this episode or "Halloween: Part 2" more. Part of this episode had a Rosemary's Baby-style plot, things were more clearer as to who is and isn't a ghost, and some strong content (content warning given before the start of the episode).

The house is getting crowded, and one wonders if it'll add another "tenant" next week with Ben. The varied tones this show juggles during the course of an hour are pretty amazing.

Connie Britton confirmed in a recent interview that her and Dylan McDermott only signed for one season. I see one of two things happening: 1) Ben moves away to raise the baby elsewhere; 2) Ben gets killed and/or commits suicide.

Either way, Season 2 would presumably open with a new family moving into the house and becoming the stars of the show. Britton and Taissa Farmiga (and McDermott, if Ben bites it) would probably guest star on a recurring basis, similar to how Zachary Quinto and Lily Rabe have this season.

So, unless she dies off the property next week, that will leave Jessica Lange as the nominal star of the series. That in itself is a huge surprise.

Dylan McDermott, with his unshaven and grim appearance in American Horror Story, reminds me a bit of Captain Black in the Gerry Anderson series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.

Does it matter? smiley_wink.gif

Although if it was still born, I feel sorry for whoever has to raise the baby...I mean, the most difficult part of raising a child is the first 4 months, right?

That was the character Hayden on the back of the security guard/watchman's car, and who vanished from it on the morning after Halloween in the second part of the story? Doubting now what happened in that second part.

Episode 7 "Open House" continued the twisted atmosphere of this series. Can see where some people are coming from, with how the makers of the show are aiming to shock with verbal and visual moments. Yet there is a story there which is driving each episode along. Next episode premiering next month which, based on the promo during the end credits, will centre on the Rubber Suit Man.

Are there 12 or 13 episodes in this first season, and was the first season finale going to be a 90 minute episode?

I noticed that my DVR had set itself to record ten minutes past the hour for this season finale episode. I'm not sure how many episodes season one was. I don't think 13 but it might have been.

Mine also shows just 10 past.. I thought it was going to be a ninety minute ep also

Hayden was in the back of the security guard's car. When dawn broke the morning after Halloween, she disappeared from the car because she was yanked back to the property.

12 episodes. There was originally going to be 13, but they ran out of shooting time, so the condensed the final two episodes into a slightly longer single episode, which aired in a 70 minute timeslot tonight.

Pretty great finale. Everyone more or less got the outcome they deserved. And that baby, now a Damien-esque toddler, is scary as hell.

It also was pretty bold in setting up the next season. Presumably Jessica Lange will still be a series regular, but there will have to be a new family in the house.

Yep; the show would/will have to nearly completely change next season.   Some of the characters will stay, but they are all dead characters.   Who moves in, that's the question.. oh, and how does Lange explain the demon child killing the Nanny?  (who will NOT be a ghost I don't think since she didn't die in the house)

Awesome episode and a great setup for season two!

Thought that's what happened. Was doubting myself after reading the reply to the post I made about "Halloween: Part 2".

Had read that the season finale would be a 90 minute episode, and that they had run out of shooting time.
