Transformers: Dark of the Moon is one of over 30 titles that was mixed using Dolby Surround 7.1 for the theatrical release.  The current Blu-ray release uses a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD mix.  Greg Russell the re-recording mixer talks about how they took advantage of the back speakers for the sound mix:

“As re-recording mixer’s we strive to bring the same sonically rich surround sound experience we create for the theatrical mix to the Blu-ray Disc, maintaining the integrity of our work,” explains Greg P. Russell, re-recording mixer, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. “The team did a tremendous job on the original 7.1 mix for Transformers: Dark of the Moon and we are excited fans will now be able to get the cinematic 7.1 surround sound experience with Dolby TrueHD 7.1 on the Blu-ray Disc.”

We have three copies of Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray to giveaway.  To enter just post in this thread.  Usual rules apply: Must have a pulse, be over 18 and live in the US or Canada.  Contest ends on Friday, October 7th at midnight PT.

I haven't ordered this one yet... So this would be good to win. :)

There hasn't been a lot of mention of Dolby TrueHD (DTS-HD MA seems to dominate the releases), so this release could remind us that Dolby has still got what it takes to blow us away!

I'd love one.

Say what you will about the actual movie, but the sound in DARK OF THE MOON was quite impressive in theaters. It would be interesting to hear how its replicated on the Blu-ray disc.

Really interesting video with Greg Russell, especially the discussion of re-mixing for the home; thanks for posting it. I liked this a lot theatrically - it delivered bombastically on the promise of the first movie - and am looking forward to checking it out on Blu. Please enter me in the contest - thanks!

I got this the other day from Netflix. I really liked the 7.1 mix. There was some good LFE thrown in there. I did miss Megan Fox though.
I told my wife I'd like to have my own copy of this movie, so winning this would be great! Every so often I break out the other two movies and watch them again.

Although I had already seen Transformers:DOTM, I picked the disc up last Friday with the intention of watching it later.  I decided to pop the disc in for a quick look at the transfer just before heading to bed around 10:30pm.  Two and a half hours later, I did finally make it to bed, with a pleasant 7.1 ringing in my ears ;-).  This is among the most dynamic, immersive, and absorbing soundtracks one will find.  Totally sucks you into the movie.  Major kudos to the creative team that fashioned this thumper.

For reference I am running a full 9.2 rig with height channels and dual 15" Velodyne subs.  If one has the system for it, my suggestion is to turn off the lights, crank this bitch to "11", and fasten your seat belt. Please keep your hands and feet inside the car until the ride comes to a complete stop.

Enjoy!

I just set-up a new 7.1 system and I am thrilled with it. I couldn't imagine it could exceed 5.1 by much but was I wrong. I enjoyed this movie in the theatre and can't wait to see and hear how it translates to home theater.

I have always wondered what all of those buttons, knobs and sliders do on the mixing consoles. smile.gif

Still on 5.1, but can't wait to hear this mix none the less!

I was shocked recently because Transformers 3 totally slipped by my radar. Not that I didn't know it was being made and that the talentless (but friggin beautiful) Megan Fox was replaced. But I didn't know that it went to theaters. I have been waiting for it and then I see that the Blu-rays are coming out and I start asking all my friends if the blu-ray is coming out the same time as the cinematic release to sort of fight piracy and all my friends looked at me like I had something wrong with me. Apparently I am the only one who missed that bus. redface.gif

Isn't it dark SIDE of the moon? :-)

In for the contest.

If the 7.1 on this is anywhere near as good as the TrueHD track on Megamind, sign me up!

I'm actually kind of surprised Paramount went with Dolby TrueHD for this release. But then again, it is bare-bones, movie-only, with the special edition double-dip coming in a few months, according to Bay.

I'm always game for new "Demo" material for my theater. Count me in!

Watched it this weekend and as the wife put it, "it's dumb, but fun" and it has some spectacular sequences. I wouldn't mind owning it.
