"Raising Hope" returns for its sophomore season on Fox in the 9:30 p.m. EDT timeslot.

thanks for the heads up.

Can't wait! Easily my favorite sitcom from last season.

Loved the season premiere. I hope lots of people like "New Girl" more than I did, because I'd hate to see the lead in sink one of my favorite returning shows.

I also loved the premiere episode, though it seems like it was a mash-up of a couple of different episodes of "Family Guy" (perhaps on purpose, as the similarity of the situation to FG was mentioned by Burt).

It was interminable to sit through "New Girl" to get to "Raising Hope," though. Awful show, and I don't really understand the Fox programming strategy. Doesn't the established show with seniority (i.e. RH), usually lead-in to the new show?

Per the ratings, New Girl was actually the highest rated show on Fox last night:
Quote:
New Girl was seen by 10.1 million viewers at 9 p.m. and delivered a strong 4.7 adults 18-49 rating. That’s the highest-rated fall sitcom premiere on Fox since The Bernie Mac Show 10 years ago. What’s particularly impressive about this number is how much the comedy built from its Glee third season premiere lead-in. Glee (8.9 million, 3.8) was down 32 percent from its first episode last fall, yet New Girl was up a whopping 52 percent from the debut of Raising Hope in its slot last year. Speaking of Hope (6.8 million, 3.1), the second season of the comedy successfully matched its first season premiere rating at 9:30 p.m.

I'd always gotten the impression based on Shelly's comments that she came from an upper-middle class background, certainly a much higher economic station than the Chances, but I didn't expect her to be mega-rich. I sort of thought they pushed things too far in that direction, because it's such a sitcom move to pull.

Other than that quibble, though, I absolutely loved the episode. As many laughs as I get from this show, it's at its strongest when it's about the things that matter to the characters. We got to know Sabrina better, and so did Jimmy. They've been in each other's lives long enough that he feels comfortable calling her out on shit, and in this case it was badly needed. I like that, while Sabrina may be dating Wyatt, Jimmy's the most important person in her life.

Stephen Root is amazing in everything, so his casting as her father is 100 percent genius in my book.

And the cold open was a piece of sheer brilliance from Garret Dillahunt.

This week's espisode left me completely cold.  Tried desperately to like this show, have always liked Martha Plimpton, but the complete dumbing down of Garrett Dillahunt's character to the point of his talking to a lobster at length has forced this to be a must miss for me.

I don't see talking to a lobster as any dumber than some of the other things Burt has gotten himself into. laugh.gif I'm still enjoying the show.

Amy Sedaris returns tonight for another guest appearance.

For me it is just too much.  Modern Family's Phil Dunphy is painted dumb, but in a way that I find very funny without being insultingly stupid.  I just feel like I lose IQ points when I watch this show....and I can't afford to lose any more of those!

Reminder: Bonus episode set and shot in Vegas airs tonight after "The X Factor".

Plimpton is great on this. I just hope she is able to still pull off the occasional Good Wife episode a few time this season, she's fantastic on that also.

Last week's episode, the boy was series creator Greg Garcia's oldest son, and the girl was Richard Dean Anderson's real life daughter.

Tomorrow we meet Burt's parents.

These last two episodes have been great!

You didn't expect us to sleep on that old sofa did you? There's 70 years of farts in there.

Burt trying to evict the "porch squirrels" and Maw-Maw video chatting also made me laugh. Cloris Leachman is game for anything, even a hot pink thong.

"This salad dressing tastes like douche." I was drinking something when that line was uttered, and I almost spewed my drink all over my living room, it took a lot of composure to keep it together.

This show has one of the highest laugh out loud count per half hour of any show on the air right now. I like literally every character, and the show usually ends on an upbeat note.

That had to be one of the funniest shows of the season. And Fred Willard is always a hoot!

Virginia: There's no way I'm going from the Moe to the Curly of this trio!

It was my favorite of the season. I prefer the episodes where the Chances are spurred to better themselves to be a better example to Hope than the ones where the show revels in stupidity. Loved Maw Maw's history of American wars song.

Loved the melding of the supporting casts of "Raising Hope" and "My Name is Earl" in last night's episode. LOVE Patty the Day-time Hooker.

Big episode for the show tonight.

I can't believe that beaver song made it past standards & practices.

I didn't think it was that bad. I think some of the songs on Family Guy have been more potentially offensive, such as "Prom Night Dumpster Baby," "The Freakin' FCC," or "Down Syndrome Girl."

I still don't care for most of Katy Perry's music, but I think she might have a future alternate career as a comic character actor.

Another good ep last night. The "Peanuts" re-enactment was funny, esp with the comic-style thought balloon for "Woodstock" Hope. Also loved Mr. Curlytail giving Virginia the Heimlich to save her from choking. laugh.gif

I don't know what it says about me, but I laughed my ass off when they came home to find Maw Maw had butchered Mr. Curlytail and had all of his entails laid out across the kitchen.
I can't believe Maw Maw knows how to butcher a pig, and using only a pizza cutter apparently. smile.gif
post #25 of 30
Silly question, but why is Cloris Leachman "introduced" as Maw Maw?

Since that is usually reserved for people plaiying their first starring roll is it just done as an inside joke for her? She's obviously been in show business more years than all the other players put together.

Just curious.
Yes, it's little joke by show. She was a guest star the whole first season -- perhaps Fox was afraid she'd die before fulfilling the terms of her contract? -- but going into Season 2 she was bumped up to a series regular. The producers decided to have a little fun.

Yay! biggrin.gif

Whadda ya know...Nancy Grace appears to have a sense of humor.

This show gets crazier every week. Loved MawMaw's multi-purpose foot bath. It doesn't just soothe your feet, it makes hotdogs and tea, too. biggrin.gif

Virginia: "Why would they want to film all the crazy stuff that happens around here? Who'd want to tune in and watch that?" smiley_wink.gif

Yeah, I can't stand the woman, but tonight's episode was a lot of fun.

I can't wait to see how they explain that ending. We SAW her get fried.
