Parks And Recreation: Season Four - Page 2

"In 1886, they outlawed all sexual positions, except missionary. Then, two years later, they outlawed missionary."

I kinda like and don't like the Tom-stuff. I know they had to reel him back in. It'll be nice to just see glimmers of his "E-720" persona, rather than him being all full-blown swagged-out. Ron continues to kill it, though. Whoever writes his lines deserves all the gold buried in his mythical backyard.

Jerry's real name is "Gary," and he's just never corrected people on it. That's sort of perfect, even moreso when they found it out, and decided that "Jerry" was a slightly less-bland name, so they'd keep calling him that.

Am I alone in thinking that the Ben/Chris meeting would've been even funnier if done all in the monotone stenographer-voice, without the cutaways?

And finally:

Louis CK will return. Awesome.

Jerry is my favorite character on the show.  Murinal?  C L A S S I C.  One of my favorite moments on TV ever.

I always liked Tom and April chanting his mispronunciation of "trout" at the end of that episode. TWOUT, TWOUT, TWOUT!

Jerry should be hitting retirement at the end of this season or so. I'm guessing something terrible will befall his life savings and he'll have to continue to work at the parks department.

That was super sweet.

I think Ethel is awesome.

We just need to bring Jean Ralphio back.

Maybe I was just primed to laugh after an excellent episode of Community but I thought this was the funniest Parks And Rec episode of the season. There were so many hilarious moments like April's Christmas present ("It's a Christmas miracle"), Ron's reaction to his gift and Dennis Feinstein apparently hunts the most dangerous game while on vacation. Plus, the last scene where the department comes together to help Leslie's campaign shows again how easily this series can handle comedy and heart.

And I'll start a new paragraph to discuss the greatness of Jean-Ralphio. His green jacket, saying that Ben was "kid President" and his short-lived accounting job were all genius.
Jean-Ralphio's post credits scene was a thing of pure genius.

This one didn't particularly stand out for me, but that's only because every single week is 100 percent awesome sauce.

I just couldn't stop smiling (and laughing a lot) during this ep.
This was great. So, so great.

"Andy Dwyer -- Security, sweets, body-man. Javelin...if need be."

Also, Jean-Ralphio, and pretty much every single line that came out of his mouth. (Including him calling Ben, "Kid President.")

And April's painting is the awesomest thing in the history of awesome.

"Ron Swanson -- any other damn thing you might need."

I smell a business card.

I liked "Then she tore the hair off my b-hole."

I wish there was a Lo-Cal Calzone Zone near me.

Great to see this back on the air, and I think last night's episode hit every single note that makes Parks and Recreation so fantastic. Nothing, though, beats the march down the red carpet and across the ice -- it's the sort of drawn-out gag that goes on just the right amount of time, and knows how to mine variety out of its circumstances for best effect (Ron announcing that Champion is peeing on him, for example). I was in stitches.

I actually started to tear up from all the laughter just around the time Leslie finally makes it onto the "stage." It's a note-perfect scene -- right up to Pistol Pete destroying himself on the ice in an ill-fated attempt to dunk for Leslie. (Maybe more for Ann?)

This episode was on fire all around, though. Ron's confrontation with the police officer. Red carpet shoes. Leslie describing Ann as a "beautiful tropical fish." Jerry unable to get a break, no matter what he does. Ben going all manic. I just wish NBC hadn't blown the ice-gag in the promos.

Also:

"Claymaysh"

"Get on your FEEEETTTT!!!"

The biggest one of all:

Chris's "herb-belt."

Just rewatched this one.

"I have to ask: How many legs did it have when you found it?" is the first challenger to, "What are you going to do without TIDES, Peru??" for Line Of The Season™.

For pure silliness, I'm still a big fan of "The Moon will join your coalition!" from a few episodes back.

And I like that Champion the three-legged dog's name works with how Andy always puts the line "You're a champion" in all of his songs.

I wish there were a Fazoli's near me! Ben obviously isn't aware that there is a fast food Italian food chain. But since they seem to keep losing locations, I guess it's not a surprise. But I sure did enjoy their food in college.

"I'm kinda tearing this claymation video a new one right now." laugh.gif

I loved Ben's realization that his whole video was only three seconds... "How could it not be longer?!"

Every single time they played "Get on Your Feet," it made me laugh harder. Comedy "Rule Of Threes" -- OBLITERATED.

Also, for some reason, Ben wearing a faded "Letters To Cleo" T-shirt just killed me. That was a note-perfect detail.

Great AV Club interview with Jean-Ralphio.

Jean-Ralphio is an exaggeration of that optimistic douchebaggy friend you have. I think he’s kind of loveable; I try to make him loveable so you root for him. Literally, my goal is that when he does something stupid, you go [sweetly], "Oh, Jean-Ralphio!" Like a little kid who made a mistake. "You got your head stuck in the honey jar again, Jean-Ralphio!"

Let’s shift to the story of the hair. When I moved to L.A., I didn’t have a haircut-guy. I got my pilot, that Mitch Hurwitz-thing, and they were like, "Don’t cut it. We want it to look that insane." Then, the first episode of Parks And Rec, Mike Schur looked at my hair and said, "That is what the character’s hair is going to look like now." Now, purposefully, I grow out my hair in the same way. I’ll go to the hair person and be like, "Here’s what I want you to do: I want you to pop out this ’fro as hard as you can, but in the weirdest way." She’ll be like, "Okay, I’m gonna take a hot iron to your sides," and I’ll say, "I don’t know what that means, but that’s exactly what I want." In my last episode, this is a very nerdy reference, but there’s a bird in Star Fox, and my hair looks very similar to it.

Holy crap, I laughed harder during that half hour than I have at anything since Season 3. Everything about April and Andy making up for years of no medical attention whatsoever was pure gold. I laugh out loud just thinking of Andy reading the eye chart.

Ben, Tom and Jerry's ad was exactly like the local and state government campaign commercials that I've seen for the last 15 years or so.

I loved the callback to Ron's Christmas gift.

While he's just an entitled baby rather than a bad guy, I already can't wait to see Leslie beat Bobby Newport.

Ron's giddy smile over solving the riddles killed me. I was also a huge fan of him taking Andy's oddly-shaped stick and not instantly discounting it as a potential clue.

I totally saw the Ann/Tom thing coming, but that's fine. More for Aziz to do is not a bad thing, and he's had two great weeks in a row using his squeaky-voice. Tom's high-pitched "Nooooo!!" sounded exactly like when he got his fingie pinched by Ron's bowling ball last week (and also last season, when he heard about L'il Sebastian's death).

I really loved Chris's short journey through misery:

"This sounds like it's from a movie where a monk dies at the end."

"It is."

Leslie calling Orin a creepy mummy (or whatever she said) was really funny and seeing Orin's hands start to slide under the table was my favorite moment of the episode.

Upon reflection, I wish Ann and Orin had gotten together.

Almost forgot:

Chris suddenly glancing over at Jerry with newfound lasciviousness when told that both Jerry and Millicent share at least 50% of the same DNA...

Was just reading the official synopsis for tonight's episode.

They had me at the words "Ron Swanson" and "meditation center."

"Holy shit, Leslie, that was awesome!"

I love the fourth X in Brandi Maxxxx's name.

As usual, I also love what this show has to say about the media, politics and corporations.

Andy's retelling of "Roadhouse" may be my very favorite thing ever.

An extended cut of the episode (running about 4 and a half minutes longer) is on NBC's site.

God, I never get tired of Perd somehow acting as a narrator of his own statements right as he says them.

"The final thing these candidates will say will be their closing statements. We will begin with our first candidate to go, Bobby Newport."

Brandi MaxXxx was also great, and Joan Callamezzo, too. The entire Pawnee media is just an endless gift.

Also:

"Wichita Lineman."

How many modern sitcom actors could pull off a scene like that so note-perfectly?

ONE.

The amazing thing about this show is half the actors have those kind of moments regularly. Nick Offerman is a comedy god, but nobody else could pull of Leslie Knope like Amy Poehler does, nobody else on the planet does earnest-underneath-morose-deadpan like Aubrey Plaza, Tom Haverford is unimaginable outside of Aziz Ansari, and Chris Pratt lights up every scene he's in. You couldn't right those movie retellings for anybody else. Even Rob Lowe brings something unique and original to the table. Since Paul Schneider left, Rashida Jones is really the only weak link left. And that's mostly because the writers have never known what to do with her character.
