Tweaks and Bug Fixes Installed Today

PM Flagging

With this release, users will be able to report PMs that they feel are harassing or otherwise are a violation of the rules. Each message in a user's PM thread will have a "Report This" button like the one that exists on every post.

Minor Features and Enhancements

  • You can now alt-click on the reply and quote buttons to open your reply in a new tab. By alt-click I mean holding down the "CTRL" (windows) or "Command" (mac) key and mouse clicking. Center mouse button, or wheel clicks, also do the same thing.
  • Some significant performance work went into the way we store and handle posts.
  • The search by user name field in Advanced Search will now auto complete with user names.
  • We did a little infrastructure work on the processes that update things like "site stats" and "hot threads," so these should be more reliable.
  • User profiles will now show a "last online" time stamp near the post count. This feature will respect "invisible mode" and not show up if the user has gone invisible.
  • We added support for a 'noparse' tag in BBCode. Anything you surround with [ noparse ] will be displayed just as you type it, and will not be rendered.
  • First-level forum names are now clickable on the forum index page.
  • Forum list pages now use complete pagination - not just "page 1 | 2 | 3..." with an unknown number of pages following.
  • We made some small style improvements to the on-hover thread and last post previews.
  • As your post is being submitted, a modal layer will cover the editor itself, but the big black "please wait" layer will no longer take over the whole page.
  • We added a confirmation dialog to the "mark forums read" button, since this action is pretty consequential and irreversible.
  • The menu that drops down from your top Forums tab was slimmed down..
  • We stopped showing user names in different sizes in the "Who's Online" module on the home page. No one ever cared much for that. Ooops, look for this next time
  • You can now enact a multiquote by pressing:
    Multi | Multi | Multi | Reply
Multi | Multi | Multi | Quote --> still works too.

Bug Fixes:

  • Own It count on product page will now update more reliably.
  • We now check the file type on image uploads to prevent non-images from being uploaded.
  • We sorted out some problems following the image resize changes in the last release.
  • We addressed a few critical display bugs with the Opera browser.
  • Default avatar selection will now work even if there is only 1 default provisioned.
  • We improved the tab order through the editors to the submit button.
  • Poll options should no longer switch order after people vote.
  • User "Location" should no longer show up in post bits when empty.
  • We improved the clarity of the error messages shown to users who are over the PM sending cap.

All looks good so far. Still hoping that the quick views can be disabled on mobile...

Thanks for adding the confirmation to "Mark Forums Read" button.  I've accidentally clicked that button a number of times and always kicked myself afterwards.

Me too

Now I want to kick you both! I always open the relevant sections onto new tabs and then Mark Forums Read and now it's an extra step!

FYI, "Who's Online" is still in different sizes, which a logout and browser close didn't remedy.  (Firefox 3.6)

I noticed that, too.  It HAD been a uniform size for a while (because I noticed that it was different...but it then reverted back to the various size listings.  Obviously, not a big deal...but something didn't go quite as planned, I guess.

The mark forums read button on each individual forum marks them all read.  We are working on changing that.

I noticed that too. but I actually like it that way.  They more recent the activity the bigger the name.

Agreed.  It's an easy way to impart additional information without sacrificing anything else.  thumbsup.gif

I think I'm the only one who likes and uses the Mark All Read. I don't mind changing each subforum's button to where it only marks those read, but I hope the global one remains. Now that it is accident-proof, please let me be the one weirdo who likes and uses it!

I, too, want Greg to be that one weirdo.  tongue.gif

Right now its backwards.  The mark individual forums buttons are on the main forum page, and the mark all forums are on the individual forum pages.  First off its not changing tomorrow and the plan as I understand it is to keep both, just switch their locations so its more intuitive. of course it will confuse all of us who finally got used to it laugh.gif.

On the large font members online, it shouldn't have been on this list, but on the next update.

When I use Mark Forums Read on this page:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/f/

it marks every single post on the HTF as read. I don't really use the button on other pages.

I long for the days when this was a supportive environment where one could be whatever one wanted to be, full of understanding and free of judgment. And where one could let their banana dance freely. banana.giffrown.gif

I offer my sincere support.  Mark any forums read that you wish.  May the force (and bananas) be with you.
