The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The Specials

--Speculation across the internet is increasing that Best Buy and Target are both cutting back on the amount of media new releases they advertise each week to try and avoid price matches by Amazon.  While it has seemed lately that ads some week have been rather bareboned, there have been other weeks where Best Buy's flyer has been full of media deals which have overflown two full pages (such as this week's flyer).

--The summer doldrums are officially over!  biggrin.gif

--And...it is T-Shirt week at Best Buy.

--Buy Star Wars: The Complete Saga on blu @ BB and get a FREE EXCLUSIVE T-SHIRT.  Products must be purchased on same receipt to receive free t-shirt.  Minimum 10 per store.

--Best Buy is also running a deal in which you can save $$$ when you buy a new SW product this week and this specific Blu-ray player--a Panasonic DMPBD75 ($99.99).  $40 off when you buy the player and the Complete Saga....or $15 off if you buy the player with either of the SW Trilogies on blu.  Products must be purchased on same receipt to receive package savings.

--Best Buy has an EXCLUSIVE VERSION of this week's release of Citizen Kane on blu.  It is a scaled down version of the larger Ultimate Collector's Edition available elsewhere.  It is being sold for $29.99.

--Buy Thor at Best Buy and get EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION PACKAGING.  Featuring the first image of Thor in comics from 1962.  The flyer isn't clear if this is for blu only, but the ad shows the special image on the 2-D blu package.

--Back to the T-shirts!  Buy The Big Bang Theory: Season 4 on either DVD or blu and get a FREE EXCLUSIVE T-SHIRT.  Minimum of two per store.  No rainchecks.

--Also, buy Supernatural: Season 6 on either DVD or blu and get a FREE EXCLUSIVE T-SHIRT.  Minimum of two per store.  No rainchecks.

--Best Buy is also still running their promotion to get a FREE $10 GIFTCARD when you spend $50 or more on TV titles.   Offer valid on DVD or Blu-ray titles only.  Products must be purchased on same receipt to receive giftcard.  Excludes children's TV titles.  Online offer may vary.

--Best Buy has the following TV Shows on DVD on sale this week:

$12.99:  Rescue Me:  Seasons 1-5 (apiece)

$14.99:  The Big Bang Theory: S 1-3, Walking Dead: S1.

$18.99:  Supernatural: S 1-5.

$19.99:  It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: S 1-5, NCIS: S 1-7, Walking Dead: S1 (Blu-ray), House: S 1-6

$24.99:  Grey's Anatomy: S 5-6,

$36.99:  House: S7

$39.99:  Nikita: S1, NCIS: S8

$49.99:  Nikita: S1 (Blu-ray)

--Best Buy Odds and Ends:  $29.99 BB Exclusive 3-D Blu-rays--How to Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Monsters vs. Aliens.

--At Target this week get a FREE eight pack lithograph set when you buy the Complete Star Wars Saga on blu.  Items packaged separately.  Free offer quantities limited, no rainchecks.

--Normally, I wouldn't even include this title in a WRU...but when retailers have promotions attached to them I kinda feel obligated.  Buy Barbie: Princess Charm School @ Target and get a FREE $5 Target Giftcard.  Quantities limited.  No rainchecks.  Terms and conditions apply to giftcards.

--Target Odds and Ends: None to report.

--And, finally...

Thanks for the roundup, Mike. Gonna get Thor 3D combo at Target Tuesday (don't have a 3D setup but got enough $ for the 3D disc on ebay that the blu ray & dvd discs will be practically free). Nephew will have to pick up my Star Wars Complete Trilogy for me in Tampa Friday morning as that's my day & time for chemo. Gonna be several expensive months coming up. Glad for the Roundup help on my credit card.

Both Star Wars and Thor are on the radar when they drop.  I'm expecting a good deal on at least one during the holidays.  Nothing else is really jumping out at me right now.

Thanks Mike!

Busy, expensive week! I have Citizen Kane (w/Ambersons), Spartacus & Star Wars on order; happy to see the prices on Star Wars and Spartacus have each dropped by $10 since I ordered. dance.gif

I will wait to pick up season 2 of Glee until the price hits the $25-or-less range and someday, when I'm impulse shopping, I may upgrade Trainspotting to blu, but there's no rush.

Thanks for the round-up! biggrin.gif

Thanks as always for the list. Glad to have you back!

Just thought I'd mention that Archer :Season One is coming out on Blu-ray, It's an Amazon.com Exclusive available September 13th at $27.99.
I'm not sure whether retailer exclusives releases are always posted,
post #12 of 60
Thanks for the well wishes & prayers. I'll also be having a very importan catscan. The first 6 2 drug chemos shrunk the tumors a LOT & this will show if #'s 7 & are maintaining the shrinkage with the single dose. BTW its Mesothelioma which I was diagnosed with in January (although they can't figure how I got it having no knowledge of ever being exposed to asbestos). I'm doing well though & my doctor is very happy which makes me happy.smile.gif

Thanks, Tom!.  Missed that one completely. That is one of the downsides of retailer exclusives....especially when they don't bother to promote them as much as they should...  rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the WRU Mike!  Speaking of exclusives, Best Buy has some of the former Samsung Dreamworks 3D titles as exclusives starting today: How to Train Your Dragon, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Megamind.  Bestbuy.com shows a "regular" price of $51.99 but has them on sale for $29.99.  I ordered Megamind for in-store pick up and the price tag showed $34.99, so I'm not sure what the regular price will be.  It was also a 3D Blu-ray/DVD set, so I am assuming the other two will be as well.

In addition to Megamind 3D I'm getting all six Star Wars films.  Would love to get Spartacus, Citizen Kane and a few others, but will wait for sales.

Speaking of Star Wars, I'm looking to set up a viewing party for HTF members in the Seattle area this week.  It can either be at my place, or I am working on getting access to a very nice Theo Kalomirakis designed theater with stadium seating that seats 15.  If you are interested please visit this thread.

Probably nothing immediate for me from this week's releases.  Will probably pick up some of them as they inevitably drop substantially in prices, especially since my plate is pretty full now.

Thanks for another WRU, Mike -- and welcome back(!) even though it was just one week... biggrin.gif

I guess it's about time some of them started showing up for retail sales although going BB exclusive w/ the high $ tag wouldn't do it for me even if I've finally picked up some 3D glasses -- I'm sorta looking now that the glasses are coming down in pricing and I have a 3D BD player (and can get Avatar 3D w/ the included Panny coupon).

Wish I could join yah for that. biggrin.gif

What is the word on these That '70s Shows releases? Are they really uncut, with all songs? The Mill Creek page only makes mention of the cheaper price. I was really into T7S about a year ago, not currently that psyched, but I could probably get back into with an upgraded release.

Hope things go very well for you, Bill.

I think they are the same as the previous release just repacked and price reduced.  It would probably be to expensive to have to re-edit them with new music and still hit that price point.  Mill Creek typically just presses what they are given from the studio they licensed it from.

Well, if that's true...I'm feeling "used."  The release lists I checked lumped the 3rd Rock, Roseanne and '70s Show releases together making it sound like they were "do-overs."    The issues with the initial releases of those shows, I did not follow closely.

I hate putting re-tread stuff in the WRU (especially edited re-tread material).

On a related note, rough week to release Spartacus. frown.gif

Hm. . .nowhere does it say what *size* the free T-shirts at Best Buy are. I have a feeling they'll be L, which does me no good. frown.gif

Mike and Adam, I found a press release from Mill Creek that said that some of the previous releases were syndication cuts, but that Carsey-Werner provided the broadcast cuts for the first time to Mill Creek. No word on replaced music, however. Since I watched That '70s Show blind, I'm not going to worry about an upgrade unless music is confirmed.
Quote:
"Mill Creek Entertainment is thrilled to be bringing these four television favorites to the marketplace and offering them at value pricing," stated Jeff Hayne, Vice President, Content Acquisition for Mill Creek Entertainment. "Partnering with Carsey-Werner to bring the original broadcast edits to DVD is yet another exciting opportunity for us to provide even more television classics to fans, who have voracious appetites for these stellar TV shows.

Welcome back, Mike! Best of luck, Bill!

After a lengthy dry spell, the last few weeks have been expensive. I own too many versions of Star Wars already, and I'm happy with my SD copies of most of this week's big releases. That leaves Thor to be picked up later today.
Thanks for this!

Though it's not included in the Roundup (probably because it was absent from both BB and Target's circulars this week and has not been getting much promotion at all), I'd like to throw out a reminder to everyone that INCENDIES, which was a nominee for Best Forigen Language Film this year from Canada, also comes out this week, exclusively in a Blu+DVD combo from Sony Classics with an obscene SRP of $45.99. However, that said, it is one of the best films I've ever seen, so it's very much worth tracking down if you are at all interested; hopefully it will be available to rent. I've had it on preorder for a while so got it for $27.99 (Amazon's current price is $28.99) and due to the high cost, that will be all for me this week.

I'd like Citizen Kane eventually and will add Grey's Anatomy season 7 to my collection when it gets a price drop later. I will pass on Star Wars until the theatrical releases are issued, unless someone gives it to me a a gift. I used to love them, but have grown increasingly tired of Lucas's ego, and find I don't really care anymore.

I'm still trying to decided Mike. There is a lot I would like to pick up, but I can't grab them all and I do have a birthday coming up. I'm definitely grabbing Citizen Kane on Blu-ray. I'll probably pick up the 2D version of Thor (I didn't know what to think of it, but when I saw it this summer it was one of the more enjoyable movies I saw). Of course, I'll grab Star Wars, but I'm not sure if I'll get it Friday or if I'll try to be patient and try to get it for less. I'd also like to pick up O, Brother and The Big Bang Theory. My wallet is quivering just thinking about it---especially with the other big releases coming up.

Someone's not reading their RoundUp closely enough...   biggrin.gif

I almost included an image of Incendies in the 'Features" section up top.  But it was crowded up there...
