Community isn't on the grid for NBC's mid-season schedule starting in early 2012, but supposedly it's not canceled, just on hiatus...
It sure seems like this will be the last season but since it's NBC, they're bound to have a show fall apart so they'll eventually play all the episodes at least. Not to mention that there will always be the DVDs.

On the bright side, 30 Rock should boost Parks And Recreation's ratings.

astounding.

Now it seems that NBC will be burning off episodes next summer. If this is true, it sucketh mightily.

It's staggering that this show will go on hiatus especially while Whitney remains.

But expect other NBC shows to fail and hopefully we can at least get a 4th season to wrap up Community.
Wow. Just, wow. Whitney lives but Community on hiatus? It is totally unacceptable.

Whitney always has a larger audience than Community. Although when Whitney is the lead off for its new night and doesn't have The Office in front of it anymore, I think it will lose its audience and be cancelled by May.

Isn't it pretty obvious that they're moving Whitney to Wednesday night to KILL Whitney?

That might not be their intention, but I'm sure that will be the end result. Even a weakened Thursday NBC lineup can float a turd like Whitney when it has The Office as a lead-in. Unfortunately, it looks like NBC is doubling down on Up All Night, so that pretty much kills Community's chances on sniffing Thursday night ever again.

And Alison Brie seems to be taking the news in stride, per her Twitter: Troy and Abed in the...summer?

Maybe the whole crew saw the writing on the wall months ago, and are planning accordingly.

Community suffers from "Scott Pilgrim" syndrome, which is to say, it attracts a young, nerdy audience who don't feel the need to sit down and watch something at a set time when they can DVR it or download it later on. Apparently, the DVR numbers for Community are quite strong, and it's got the desirable "nuts-and-gum" 18-35-year-old audience, which is what's kept it alive (well, that, and NBC being a last-place network).

As intelligent, discerning viewers (generally speaking, of course), history has shown time and time again that the type of person who likes Community will typically only get a season or two of their favorite show. Not to sound like an elitist dick, but there aren't that many people who get My Dinner with André jokes, and maybe we simply don't watch enough TV to make it profitable.

You go, Dean Pelton! Used well twice in back to back episodes!

Watching his descent into madness was so friggin' hilarious!!

This was my 2nd favorite episode of the season.

I thought this episode was great. Not just "solid" or "good enough," but one of the best so far this season. Certainly the best Dean-episode ever. My only complaint was that once Jeff showed up dressed as the Dean, I thought they were going to make a straight-up "Synecdoche, NY" episode. Hell, if they hadn't kept saying it was "Hearts of Darkness," I would've thought this anyway.

It's always nice to expand the Dean to more than one note (and his "desperately-trying-to-improve-the-school's-image" aspect is a lot funnier than his "he's-a-big-gay-pervert" aspect), and the ending was earned. And that's exactly how Chang should be used, as mostly background gags (I particularly loved all the shots of him desperately trying to mimic Jeff).

I kind of loved the Dean's incredulous reaction to Luis Guzman sharing his thoughts on camera with Abed in a broom closet after refusing to shoot the commercial. Just the fact that they addressed there being no rational, valid reason to hear Guzman's thoughts was great.

And they finally seem to be pushing forward with the "Troy/Britta"-thing, now that Abed is aware of it. I'm no fucking 'shipper, but I'm interested in seeing how that goes.

I was actually hoping that Dean would have stayed insane for a few episodes, in order for Goodman to temporarily take over. And Guzman! Cracked up when Abed included his, "I got laid like crazy here!" in the commercial. (...And that was before Boogie Nights.)

I had no clue that Guzman was going to be on so that was a fun surprise. "And that was before Boogie Nights" was hilarious.

For the record, Apocalypse Now is better than Hearts Of Darkness.

Not sure what this means since it seems to be Sony, not NBC.

^ I have no clue what that means but Sony produces and owns the show (NBC just airs it). My hope is that Sony is planning on doing a fourth season and putting it on a cable channel. A show that is popular with critics and has a devoted following seems like the wet dream of many cable channels.

Seems pretty likely they're going to sell it into syndication to air in Fall 2013.

Not sure if anyone watches The Soup but McHale has been talking about the situation in typical tongue and cheek soup fashion.

He even had Allison Brie and Gillian Jacobs on to join in on the fun.

An Anime foosball battle?  Holy crap I lost it!  That was awesome.

Agreed. Awesome episode.

It was a great episode and I loved the Jeff and Shirley stuff.

I think that may have been my favorite episode in all the two-and-a-half seasons.

Very funny episode last night, I could not stop laughing at the glare that Annie gave Troy and his reaction when she was hugging Abed after lying to him.

It is a tragedy that people watch shit like Big Bang Theory over this. The second half of the season has been killing me. It's really striking that balance between concept and character, now, in a way that was sort of absent in Season 2. They've finally managed to get a bead on Shirley that really works this season.

Loved the animé-sequence just for how Winger and Shirley start talking rational, and their characters look like they're still screaming. (I was kinda hoping she and Jeff would ascend to "Super Saiyan," though.)

Great moments from last night:

  • "You were supposed to tone us DOWN!!" I love how it implies that T&A have a subtle self-awareness.

  • Annie briefly contemplating recording a mock-Bale commentary track herself.

  • Donald Glover had some magic, as usual. Enjoyed his happy-humming turning into sad-crying humming after he found out about the DVD. Really liked him calling after Annie that her moving in was supposed to keep them from doing things like that.

  • Another quote from Glover that I plan on using immediately: "Let's not resort to thing-doing."

  • Oh god, the "schadenfreude" joke...

  • ...And Britta's "pretentious cat-monocle" line.

  • ...And Britta and Troy's "animal-hospital" exchange.

  • Lovedlovedloved that Nick Kroll showed up. He even got to be an insufferable Euro, instead of an insufferable American.

  • The human foos was fantastic, and the fact that they kept milking it with Jeff's reaction killed me: "Were they carrying around that soccer ball just to do that?" "They even left the soccer ball." "Seriously, that's like a $25 prop, for a bit that's not even that funny!"

  • The ending was touching without being sappy. Big Cheddar and Tinkletown, together again.

  • "I stepped on the DVD and broke it!"
    "Why?"
    "I was dusting the television!!"
    "WHY?!?!?"

Don't worry, I'm sure that anime sequence will win Community a much larger audience now. smile.gif

Very funny episode and very enjoyable to see a different side of Shirley.

Yes!  That's exactly how I felt last night.  For me it's almost as if they've been kind of "under-using" Shirley for a while now and last night they let loose the hounds.  I really like where they went with her character.

Ooops...I almost forgot about Leonard's frozen pizza YouTube review.  It was so simple but I found it so funny.

I've already done it twice today in faux germanic accent. Dang hilarious.
