Community: Season 3 thread

Wanted to get an official thread rolling for this one. A quick Season 3 promo.

What's up with the dean's Lenin-beard? He looks like he's about to start making meth in some nice, Southwestern city.

(Actually, I would pay cash money for that Community episode. It needs to happen. Maybe the cafeteria's chicken-finger batter comes from Los Pollos Hermanos.)

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I'm really looking forward to this season.  I want to see what they can do when not being quite as over the top or silly.  I think, just maybe, that it might be even better which will be a hard thing to do because it's already that good.

HAHA!  That was great!

Annie punching Jeff is still one of my favorite Annie moments. Second place is her choo-choo train.

Per Brie's Twitter, there's a nice photo of her in the current issue of Rolling Stone. :D

The continuing saga of Dan Harmon being motherfucking awesome.

What a man.
Josh, that was AMAZING! I already loved Dan Harmon with as much force as a straight male nerd can love someone he doesn't know but whose talent he respects and envies, which is a lot of love, but that letter he wrote that little girl makes me love him just a little bit more.

I absolutely loved the intro but the monkey gas / 2001: A Space Odyssey scene had me LOL'ing big time.

I am glad this show is back on.

It's always a good day when a new episode of COMMUNITY airs. I did so miss my Greendale Human Beings.

That musical number was better-staged and edited than anything Glee's done since their third episode or so.

If you were a Greendale student, who is the LAST person you would ever want as a security guard? Well, that person is now a security guard.

Starburns telling Jeff to "blend"? Gold. Omar calling him "Starface"? Gold. Starburns including the lizard in his outfit? GOLD.

I was really wondering if Goodman was going to end up doing gay-inferences like the Dean from City used to. That whole, "You bring your head down to my appendage"-thing sounded like it was headed that direction.

Ok Josh...I already loved Dan Harmon, but that is fucking GOLD! "But, hey, I shouldn't be dumping this on you." So great.

Fartacus.

Chang, Britta and spitting was oddly hot.

"Highlight?"

"Probably the backpack."

Donny having a Southern accent but knowing he was talking about the country was great. And, I like any episode taking the piss out on the UN. tongue.gif
post #18 of 252
^ Yeah, the Georgia/southern accent joke was pretty funny. Annie freaking out and writhing on the table was really funny as well. This show is in some great crazy territory right now.

And I'm the only one surprised that NBC's standards and practices let them say "n-words"?

Did anyone else catch the "Party Down" poster behind the "Model UN" flyer?

Gillian Jacobs was comedic gold this episode. Her monologue at the table ending with her fist-pump exit was brilliant. My favorite background joke was Abed calmly moving his Switzerland plaque aside when Annie throws her tantrum on the table.

Also, Troy replacing the cup she was making that irritating squeaky sound with.

That irritating squeaky sound was another visual reference to Annie's tendency to make hand-job gestures, right?

TELL ME I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THIS!!!

Rolling the dice?

Pottery class?!?

No, it was obvious to me with the straw (either that, or I just have a dirty mind when Brie is onscreen). Also, the absolute stillness of Winger and Abed in that pottery shot says it all.

Do You Want To Be Cool Like Abed?

Yo, check it: this comic book called Chew has been featuring real t-shirts on main character Tony Chu's daughter, Olive, since issue 15. One of them was called "The Madness of Mission 6." And, Abed wore it on last week's season opener!

Reminds me of the art for Iron Maiden's latest album, with Alien Eddie assaulting astronauts until they are just skulls in the suits.

Though the secret is, this is a completely mindblowingly awesome tribute to something you might not get even if you look at the shirt for a long time.

"WHY IS THIS STILL HAPPENING?!?"

"Somebody just won a ride in the wheelchair."

Also:

Chang's arrest report on Britta...all handwritten on crappy, spiral-bound notebook paper.

Community scored a 1.8 on Thursday night, 6% better than the premiere, which is rare. Every other show dropped in numbers, including The Office. It looks like Community picked up some 18-49ers who said "fuck this" to Charlie's Angels.

So who thinks Annie and Jeff will hook up?

The more interesting question is, will Chang and Britta hook up?

An unexpected pairing, but one I am strangely pulling for. :D

Oddly...critics like Sepinwall called this an 'ok' episode of Community. I enjoy the show SO much more on a second viewing and then re-reading quotes and observations in this forum. There is always comic gold in this show. If that's an 'ok' episode, I'll take it every time. I guess they just mean in comparison to the big blowout reality bending episodes (zombies, paint ball, etc.)

Sepinwall's review features an interesting conversation with the AV Club's Todd Van Der Werff about the show, and how the high-concept episodes often overshadow the more grounded episodes, like this one.

Like they mention, the show's seasons often start slowly before ramping up, a fact that's difficult to keep in mind when the season finales have ended in such over-the-top fashion.

Same here.  They would be a very "interesting" couple.

Hmm...that felt the Seinfeld finale.
