40% off ALL Blu-rays at Barnes & Noble thru 9/14

If you're a member, subtract another 10% and you're at 50% off.

I got the new Coen Brothers collection for $29, which was 40% off to $41.29, then used a $8 off 40 coupon, plus the 10% member discount.

I'm heading back for some Criterions, not having to wait until November for the next 50% off sale.

Hmmm...  I hadn't bothered to hit the actual store -- only shopped online since I usually find the local store either doesn't really keep up w/ the online prices or doesn't have all that much in stock, except for the Criterion sale -- so didn't realize I coulda gone to the store for the regular member's discount on top.  Well, it's really only an additional 10% off the already reduced price, so it's not actually 50% off, but more like 46%. biggrin.gif  Also, there's a fair chance that the clerk/cashier might not accept stacking the extra $5-off-$50 coupon on top (for a very nice additional discount, if you're interested in some other titles too) -- the online site does that correctly and automatically stacks the multiple offers w/ one code.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I ordered the Coen Brothers BD set + Good Will Hunting + Friday Night Lights for a total of ~$47+tax -- and paid for it in full w/ online GC from my Amex rewards program, cool.gif which probably would've taken another week to do if I needed to get a physical GC for in-store use.

Anyway, guess I'll check the store itself for my next potential purchase from this sale (maybe tomorrow) although I'm not holding my breath that all the prices will match their online prices *and* that they'll have anything I actually want in stock.

BTW, there are members' only 20%-off coupons available for this long weekend (both online and in-store) -- there are also some 15%-off ones for non-members:

Might want to prepare a short list of interested titles from the online store for shopping in-store -- the site does also provide moderately accurate inventory status for the local stores, if you hit the stores earlier in the day that you check status.

Using coupons, I was finally able to get the 3-disc Apocalypse Now set for 50% off

I'll also be buying August Criterion Blu-rays to help lighten the load for when the November sale starts

Considering that B/N online stopped honoring the members' 10% in addition to coupons, you can actually get some better deals in the store with this sale. Plus you can stack that 20% coupon good through 9/6 to basically get 70% off (or near that when you consider the 20 percent is taken off after the 40 and the 10 after that - or some such mathematical complication). But the deals are easily beating Amazon.

Aye, there are definitely some nice deals to be had w/ the combo of this sale and available coupons (and member's discount, if you have that).

However, I'd recommend not overlooking the online store for this sale unless your local store actually carries very good inventory of what you want, which I don't find to be the case where I am -- and the extra effort and cost of travel to hit a different, less convenient/accessible store doesn't really justify the extra 10% savings in many/most cases.  And remember, some titles do actually get more than just 40%-off on the site (vs what the local store will have).

Also, for those who have a Discover Card, you can always replace the lost member's discount w/ the 10-15% cashback from using Discover's online portal -- that's actually what I normally do if I didn't already have some CC-rewards-funded GCs to use; otherwise, I use BB's MyReward Zone portal to earn 2x BB rewards points for B&N site purchases.

Still, one title I really want to look for though is the new Carmen BD since that does not seem to be included in the sale on the site and is one of those titles that might rarely, if ever, get discounted deeply...

The 10% member discount and 20% member coupon are not taken off the original price but each succesive discount, so the total off is 57% not 70%. Still a savings compared to Amazon, but not as impressive.
