The real problem is that while I firmly believe the future set will correct the missing cues from "Not with a Whimper" (they'd be absolute morons if they didn't fix that after going to all this trouble), and perhaps any other spots where something like that happened, I don't know if that would be enough to make someone who got the hold of the recalled set want to double dip.  Is it worth it for a few minutes of missing cues?  Each person would have to make their own call on something like that.  And then, the other thing to keep in mind, is that while I think we'll get some of the missing cues restored, I also believe they'll go back through and eliminate those spots where original juke box/lounge music snuck back in.  Everything I know about CBS tells me they are scared to death of that type of music creeping into any set they release.  They've either subbed out or cut out scenes where that type of background music is playing on just about all their releases.  So I think if/when the new set is released it will be a matter of give and take.  They'll give back some of the original backscore accidentally removed, and they take away the numerous juke box/lounge music that was restored in the recalled set.  That was surely an oversight/mistake by the monkeys in the mixing studio and I imagine CBS was horrified when they found out much of that music had been reinserted into the recalled set.

Just my two cents, but until I hear or see otherwise I'm sticking with that hypothesis of the situation.

Gary "if the recall was O-N-L-Y about restoring a few missing cues in an episode or two it wouldn't be taking this long to hear something from them, imho" O.

I won't be going to the trouble of getting the replacement one period when it comes out. I'm happy with it, and if it's just a case of a couple missing cues, so be it.

What I said is still true...

But I've been asking myself: why would CBS bother to issue a Box Set, other than to bundle all the unsold individual half-seasons and toss in a bonus CD?

I wake up screaming from A Stop At Willoughby nightmare that when the rogue Box was recalled, CBS brass said, "You were only supposed to bundle the old DVDs, not perform minute music manipulations. Time is money, boys. Push, push, push. All the way; all the time. Push, push, push." furious.gif

John, thanks for reminding me of a more optimistic post. I'll try to practice what I preach. smile.gif

I doubt we will see a Blu Ray set either, with or without the release of the box set. I actually specifically asked Gord Lacey about this in an email last fall around the time the box set was supposed to be released. He said he didn't see the likelihood of a Blu Ray release.

As for Twilight Zone, I think the fan base is wider than it is for The Fugitive. I would think that Twilight Zone is about the best selling old show on DVD/Blu Ray, second only to the original Star Trek.

it's sort of funny that most BluRay disc box sets are more expensive than a lot of bluRay players,

they could just include one with the box set, release everything only on BluRay!

I think it's going to be a horse race to watch..."everything on Blu-ray" turn into "everything On Demand."
Many of us here have watched 78s fall to LPs...8-tracks replaced by cassettes, all to be conquered by CDs ...and VHS/Beta crushed by DVD.

Hey, what am I going to do with 600+ Laserdiscs? I've got LD players new in boxes that probably have rock-hard rubber belts and flywheels.

Yeah, say it...I'm old. biggrin.gif

thumbsup.gif Good idea. There are six 2-episode discs of The Fugitive. And only about twenty film titles that haven't made it to DVD.
Song of the South comes to mind.
I should dig out the laserdisc Fugitive episodes and try to figure out what CBS used as source material. smile.gif

For me, watching the episodes with their original music really underscores the importance of the CBS cues. The CBS cues were on so many shows; hearing them on The Fugitive just gives me a sense of familiarity, a comfort level with The Fugitive that I wouldn't otherwise have. Also, having heard a majority of these cues on Gunsmoke, hearing them on The Fugitive just gives the latter even more of a modern western feel to me, a western set in the 1960s. I honestly can't imagine watching The Fugitive without these cues, they contribute so significantly to my enjoyment of the show.

jdee, the music just perfectly fits the situations too. The show had good writing and great acting but the music is also a huge factor in the overall mood and suspense of the show. I always enjoy hearing those cues in Perry Mason also.

o.k. it's 2/7/12.......Has Anybody heard ANYTHING??????????

Just wait and let CBS make the announcement when it's time. You have to understand people are not at liberty to discuss anything they know.

Hi, all.

After I ordered the Complete Set from Amazon in November, I ordered two more sets from Walmart.com. The sets I bought from Walmart are sealed and are in the exact same condition as they were when they were shipped to me.

Soliciting offers in the forum area of the HTF is not allowed. Please re-list your desire to sell these sets in the Software for Sale/Trade forum...including a set asking price.

I appreciate your desire to see fans of the series enjoy the sets you've acquired. And I think it's terrific you want to support JDRF. Best of luck.

Moderator's Note:

We are all adults here...but I see no need to compare CBS executives (and their lack of being forthcoming about this release) with the group responsible for the holocaust.

So, that comment has been stricken from the thread.  Let's not repeat it.

And let's try to keep things in perspective.

Thanks.

Hey GreatOz, where did you hear that we will have some info this year on the release of the box set?
I'm all for keeping it civil here, but oddball posts do break the monotony of...

"Three notes are missing from ACT II"
"Five notes have been replaced in ACT IV"
"BRB, my mother just slipped a Hot Pocket under the door."
"I'll trade my new Camaro SS for an unopened FUGITIVE Box Set."

I'm not at liberty to reveal my source, but I heard it would definitely come out sometime before the end of this decade. smile.gif

Funny stuff. You mock some of the best posts in the thread and information most of us here wanted very much. If you're satisfied with the previously released sets, watch them and don't worry about this upcoming release.

Understood. My age puts a little different perspective on collecting.

For example, I am one of five judges of two classic car shows a year
I expect the owners to have their Q-tips out and be cleaning the Jaguar's crotch and Ellie's nightie the morning of the show.

I was with you all complaining about the Heyes scores and deleted scenes.
I complained more to connections-to-connections in the industry, than on this Forum.

Rather than mocking, I simply pointed out that there's only so much a person can fret over before it becomes an obsession.
I stopped buying MARRIED WITH CHILDREN when Frank's vocal was removed from the intros after Season Two.
The shows themselves were OK; I am/was being stubborn, like many here on the Forum with the FUGITIVE.

However, IMHO, there's a point at which we lose perspective. Like name-calling and ranting over no Box Set news.
Or very, very minor periods of silence where music once was.

I got a flame for comparing the missing final Season of HGWT to, at least, having all four Seasons released for the FUGITIVE.
Five will get you ten, there would have been Hell-To-Pay if CBS/P sat on the FUGITIVE Season Four for a year or more.
That was my only point of comparison. Obviously, there's no consoling people who are enraged.

Several members here must be paying for their gastroenterologist's Mercedes and his Country Club membership
by getting ulcers over this FUGITIVE fiasco.

Nevertheless, your point is well-taken, in response to my "five notes" exaggeration. cool.gif

I agree.  Some of us need to just lighten up a bit.  An unannounced replacement for a withdrawn box set isn't cause for angst.

There are plenty of reasons for angst in everyday life.

From what I can gather, I think that all most of us are asking for here is that the show is as close to how it was originally intended when first broadcast as much as possible. No missing pieces of dialogue, no audio tweaking, original music intact (I know this is not always possible due to copyright but a disclaimer before each episode would be appreciated perhaps?) etc. etc. Sure, it's not the end of the world and there's more important things to worry about in life but it's all about respecting a TV program that deserves the utmost respect. Don't you think? I don't see anything wrong with people here venting their displeasure or angst about any classic TV program if they feel passionately about it and have a valid reason to complain because either it's been poorly reproduced, edited, manufactured, distributed and/or remastered in some shape or form. Just my 2 cents worth.

For my part, I feel the need to be inclusive. I think the agonizing over the five notes replaced in ACT IV is nerdish obsession in the extreme, and is worthy of sarcasm. While on the other hand, people love the show and it's reasonable to want some freakin' information on what's going on; I mean, how hard would it be to provide that information.

Personally, I don't think it's healthy to get the blood pressure worked up regarding the show (it's a great show; it's not a work of art). But I do enjoy the opportunity to every so often provide a drive-by middle finger to the people responsible for screwing this up.
Patrick, (and now Al) no one on this Forum disagrees with you. Your points are all valid.

In fact, without this Forum's original FUGITIVE thread and the detailed critique from musicologists and those of us who remember the show's original broadcasts, a whole new generation of viewers might never have been aware of the total soundtrack butchery with Heyes' music.
CBS was hoping not many would notice.

Having said that, experiences have taught me that it's best to remember to "choose your fights wisely."
Having abandoned the hair-brained idea of bastardizing this classic TV show, CBS has made an attempt to make things right.
(please, save the flames that I'm a CBS apologist) There will be no pleasing purists if ANY errors remain. And, yes, the Box Set recall is frustrating.

Personally, I think CBS needs to release the final Season of HGWT and be more aggressive in their schedule of GUNSMOKE seasons.
In light of HGWT being dead-ended, I repeat, we're lucky we're still not waiting for Season Four of the FUGITIVE. At my age, I've learned to count my blessings.

OT

I can't help but ask myself, in light of today's business climate and economic uncertainty , what if CBS, Inc. folds its Home Entertainment Division or moves its entire Library to online access only? Retailers tell me that DVD/Blu-ray are living on borrowed time...and are following closely behind the demise of music CDs. Once such corporate decisions are made, there won't be a tinker's damn we can do about it.

Considering that this forum exists so people can talk about TV shows on DVD or Blu-ray, I think expressing anger or frustration about a show is a perfectly legitimate aspect of the discussion and a part of the reason why this place exists. While I find it boring to read "When it's coming out?" posts over and over (especially when it's going to do absolutely nothing to speed up the process), people can post what they want since it does relate to the topic at hand.

All that being said, if outside of places like this, you still waste your time being angry that show X has been messed up or not released yet, I think you might want to lighten up a little bit.

I agree with your DVD Consumer Rights (my label) attitude, but I'm a little puzzled by your last statement.
I doubt that fan anger vanishes when they log off the Forum.

If you mean, they beat their dogs, yell at neighbors, and drive with road rage because of missing music cues on the DVDs,
yes, it's time to lighten up.

What I mean is that it's best to compartmentalize things. When someone is at a forum like this, that's the time and the place for them to say their piece about a DVD-related topic. However, once they leave, they should probably think about other non-DVD related things until they come back. While I certainly spend way too much time here, I don't spend time thinking about DVDs and Blu-rays except when I'm here. If someone is sitting at home, staring at a blank wall and thinking about how much they hate a faceless company that messed up a DVD, it might be time to relax a little.

While a few people are always going to be angry, I think most people (myself included) who complain here do it because they're amongst like-minded individuals. I could tell my friends how messed it is that they chopped up the music in The Fugitive but it's not something that is really going to bother them so while they understand that changing the music drastically alters the show for the worse, they're just listening to me vent and it's not like I've found someone to really commiserate with. Here I could say the same thing and people will likely understand what I'm saying alot better because we have similar interests.

I heard the reason the sets got pulled back was that Seasons 1 - 3 are to undergo colorization. Nah, just a bad nightmare joke there. redface.gif
