AAny receiver suggestions for $600-ish?

Hey all --

I own (owned?) a Onkyo TX-SR608. It was paired with a Deftech procinema 1000 system with a Procenter 2000.

It worked great, until the last 2 months when I've had a lot of issues with the receiver (sound cuts out for no reason....sometimes it comes back, sometimes it didn't).

I'm now in the market for a new receiver. I don't care much about all the new features, just looking for something that can handle 7.1 and rocks with movies. (all it needs to be able to handle is a Sony blu ray player, XBOX 360, and TiVo).

I was thinking of a Marantz SR5005, but read elsewhere that Marantz is better for 2 channel stero than movies AND that the pop of death issue is still in the 0005 series.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My budget is about $600, though of i'd be willing to spend a little more (and I don't neccessarily need to spend all $600).

thanks in advance

...and why is the Marantz better for 2 channel than surround?

I recently got an SR5004 and SR 5005 for a little quality experiment and I have to say they both sound excellent. You can get the 5005 new for $450 shipped from ac4less.com. To me, it is a no-brainer. If you really want to upgrade the sound, you can use external amps, which is a real deal for the price.
