That set really boggles my mind.
Is there no one who can contact Warner and find out what the the thinking is on those pencils and erasers and why they think someone would make a decision on buying this set based on those items and some of the other things in there, or at least why they think anyone would want that stuff at all?

This is indeed one of the worst -- if not THE worst

boxed sets ever to come out of the Warner camp.

Totally ill-conceived.

Perhaps this set bothers me more than any other

because of my love for the film and the fact that most

of what is in that box is not doing any fan of the film a

favor.

Still, it's odd.  People will buy anything.  In other words,

someone will think this is a great holiday gift for someone.

Plus, those that don't have the original digibook release are

sort of forced into purchasing this set as it seems this is

the only way you can buy this title on Blu-ray right now.

Otherwise, for me, I plan on separately buying the book

that comes within the set as well as the new book by

the woman that played Violet in the film.

I am a huge fan of Warner Brothers.  I don't often speak

out against the things they do -- but I am having great

difficulty coming to terms with what was included in this

set and that nobody could have thought of something more

fitting to include with ths wonderful film.  If more thought had

been put into this, fans like myself would have gladly

opened up our wallet to buy this boxed set even owning the

digibook release already.

Pencils and eraser?  Really?!

I'm sure they have reams of data suggesting pencils and erasers are exactly what people do want- since they also supposedly have reams of data justifying so much of what doesn't get released.

From the the cutesy form over function packaging these studios kick out for big releases, to moronic extras- it's very rare that the big monolithic corporations get what the fans that pony up the dough for these things actually want to see and own. It's always the smaller companies like Shout! and others that understand the collector/fan mind-set.

My days of buying these boxes are numbered. I just discovered that my Gone With the Wind box is already losing the "velvet" covering. It has a lot of wear in spots, and I hardly ever touch it. They are cheaply made.

Man, why all these box-o-crap editions? I'd be SO much more into buying these if they were a simple, normal size box that would fit on my shelf, with a few disks and a booklet.

I mean, Criterion throws out bonus features by the bucketload (three commentary tracks for Slacker!), yet they still know where to draw the line.

They could have gone the extra mile and introduced a commentary with Gene Wilder! Now in that case, I might pay to upgrade. But no, I do not need yet another box o'junk, no matter what film we're talking about.
