It may be good and I am hoping it is, but not sure how or what they are going to do after the dreadful Torchwood Children of Earth. I was certainly not a fan of that one at all and would like to see them at last smooth it over a bit and make it less dark. If it is anywhere close to the last one, I will not be watching.

I enjoyed CoE a lot, and am looking forward to seeing what they do with "series 4" here.

I'm just annoyed that we here in Canada can't even see the trailer yet. *sigh*

Count me as one who thought that CoE was very well done.  Hadn't watched Torchwood prior to that due to the sexual politics of the show but decided to give CoE a shot and was pleasantly surprised- the dark tone really worked well.  Don't have Starz and hope that the sexual politics are kept to a minimum, but if given the opportunity, I'd check it out.

Sexual politics?

Jack likes the guy sex. But I thought that was only sexual politics for republicans. Maybe I mean political sexuality. :)

Jack likes any sex. Man, woman, alien, inanimate object...

Yep; he's an omni-sexual.

I have been a big fan of Torchwood from day one and really a big fan of the Capt Jack since his Who days but then again I’m far from a prude so the fact that Jack goes all ways never bothered me.

CoE was very good and such a fitting chapter in the tragic life that is Jack Harkness. A person who on the surface has something most people would want yet his life is filled with so much personal tragedy.

I do not have Starz but I will be subscribing to it starting July 1 so I can catch these first run.

May try the new series to see how it goes.

The older stuff just got to repetitive. Rift opens, alien, artifact or something from the wrong time appears. Clean up mess and begin again.

Maybe this new version will change things up a bit.

I have never seen the show b/c I thought it was something different so can I start watching from the new episode in July or should I watch past seasons first?

I would definitely try to watch the other seasons if possible since it will give you a better understanding of the history of the main characters.

It's not called being a prude, but some people have morals about such things and it goes against their beliefs. Sure, it's a cable channel and you have to pay to get it or you can block it so I have no problem like that on a cable network. But I do have for public TV on some of the shows on and the time slots they are in.

I was going to wait for it to come out of DVD, but then Dish Network gave us free Starz for a year, so I'll be along for the ride this season.  They had an extended preview at the end of the final episode of Camelot with some of the main characters talking about Miracle Day.

So, here in Canada, Space appears to be showing the new Torchwood at the same time as Starz in the US.  Saw a preview for it today.

Looking forward to next weekend!

I DVR'd it and will see it at lunchtime today. Looking forward to it.

I totally forgot to DVR it!  ARRGGGGH.  Good thing its repeating all week!

I watched it this morning and have never viewed Torchwood beforehand, but I liked what I viewed today.

Good to hear.  I haven't seen the British series either.

It was well written in that it didn't bore Torchwood old-timers like me but contained enough background information to catch folks new to the show up on what it is exactly. And the season-long arc was nicely established and intriguing to keep folks around to find out what it's all about.

It's a 10 episode season, just FYI.

Hard to say if it lives up to Children of Earth from just one episode, but it's leaps and bounds better than seasons one thusfar. Cant wait to see how this all plays out, especially with Captain Jack's development. . . .

There were more callbacks to the earlier seasons than I thought there'd be. Having the American CIA agents investigating Torchwood was a very organic way to unload exposition while weaving it into the mystery. It was engaging enough watching them peel back the layers that it never felt redundant.

I've been with the Eleventh Doctor on "Doctor Who" since the get-go, but caught up with Nine and Ten on Netflix. From there, I rolled right into "Torchwood". Finished "Children of Earth" tonight and rolled right into "Miracle Day." Now "Children of Earth" is some of the most nail biting television I've ever seen, but that's because it was only five episodes long. With a ten episode season, "Miracle Day" could afford to devote an hour to setup. And as a combination reboot and continuation, it needed that time to set up the concept.

I liked the Rex character more than I thought I would; he's an aggressive very American personality that we haven't seen in the mix in previous seasons -- even if he contributed virtually nothing this go-round. Esther, meanwhile, seems destined to slide into the Toshiko role while channeling Gwen's season one arc. Thankfully, Gwen and Captain Jack are the same as ever.

I was also surprised that they firmly cemented Torchwood's status as alien hunters; I thought they were going to recast Torchwood as a more broadly Mulder and Scully operation. That, combined with the M.E.'s comment at the hospital, leads me to believe that this conspiracy has an extraterrestrial element, too.

In my book, the slower pacing of 10 episodes is more than offset by the fact that we get 10 episodes.

The new season is still part of the Doctor Who universe and in the Doctor Who universe its always alien. Ghosts? Aliens. The Loch Ness Monster? Aliens. Mummies? Aliens. Police Box that files through time and space? You get the idea.

I remembered to schedule it for Friday night, but I got a botched up guide update and the DVR didn't record anything I scheduled that night. So, yes it is good it repeats quite frequently. I recorded it late Sunday night and saw it yesterday. It is quite a powerful start, though I have I wonder what explanation they are going to have for the miracle.
