This looks awful. Aside from the character names and title, it appears to have no connection to the original. From this trailer, it looks like any generic high school horror flick.

Did they cut the Peter Vincent character from the film completely?

Did we want a scene for scene remake though?

Even if it turns out to be the worst movie of the year I'd much rather them do something different than just delivering the same thing.

I replaced the opening posts, 'CLICK HERE' with the actual YouTube trailer, now that it's already made it's way to that site.

If they're going to remake "Fright Night," then yes, I would like it to be essentially the same story.

If they're going to make a competely new film, then call it something else. After a certain amount of changes, it's no longer "Fright Night."

Did you like what they did with PSYCHO and THE OMEN then?

Haven't seen them.

I think a remake should be different from the original. If you're just going to do the same, what's the point of doing a remake? Look at Cronenberg's The Fly. While some basic points are the same, the movie is entirely different from the original. And because of that isn't just a weak rehash, but one of the best horror movies and remakes of all time. At least that's my opinion. When you stick too close to the original, you might end up with the remake of Psycho, which shows you that even when you do a shot-for-shot remake, you end up with something less.

Last I read, the character is in it and played by David Tennant.  I believe you can catch a brief glimpse of him in the trailer.

I guess the question is this: Is it about a person who discovers his neighbor is a vampire? Does this person then enlist the help of some kind of horror/occult themed character. Those are the base story points. If they use that, then they can do whatever they want and still legitimately call it a remake of "Fright Night"

But, I agree, the trailer does not look very good. And really, this is another one where I don't know why it needs a remake. The original still holds up pretty well. The effects still look mostly good to me (even the blood looked pretty real and to me 90% of the time I find movie blood to look fake). I'm betting that the effects in the original will still look more convincing than what will almost certainly be a lot of CGI for this go round.

Also, surely there must be a BD release of the original being prepped, hopefully, a full blown special edition. Any rumor mill on this?

I agree with the idea that if a remake strays too far from the original's intent then you Should re-name it.

As far as Peter Vincent's character in this remake goes, he is no longer a late night horror show host (as there aren't many if any late night horror shows on anymore for a modern kid to identify with) who's name is an homage to PETER Cushing and VINCENT Price...no, now he is a Las Vegas "Mindfreak" type magician.  Yep.

Aside from the title, some character names and the basic core setup I doubt this remake will have much to do with the nostalgic and semi-black humor idea behind the 1985 original, but so what.  I get pissed at the glut of remakes in the last 8 years or so but in the end it isn't anything new to Hollywood, cannibalism has been at the heart of the industry for a LONG time....it's just the mind numbing amount of them coming out every year that sends me over the edge when I think of all the original ideas that can be found in print that studios are afraid to take a chance on.

I mean if they'll remake I Spit On Your Grave then what won't they remake?  laugh.gif

How many remake can we name that didn't stray far from the original?  I watch dozens of remakes a year and very, very few of them take that "scene for scene" approach because each of them at least try and come up with something fresh while taking memorable characters or pieces from the original.  PSYCHO and THE OMEN are two that come to mind.  THE MAYOR OF HELL back in the day with CRIME SCHOOL and the other remake were all fairly close but I guess you could argue it was different back in the day before video.  In recent years however, very few just deliver the exact same film.

And again, it's not the studio being afraid to take a chance on something.  They just go where the money is.  With the success of INSIDIOUS I'm sure we'll get more films like that but until opening weekends on this current trend aren't bringing in $15+ million then we're stuck.  I personally think things are slowly changing but we've still got quite a bit in the mixer coming up with the remakes and looking by a few trailers it appears a few more hits as well.
