Odeon Entertainment - DVD distributor - Page 3

Finished watching the Chans a couple of days ago. They are things of great, great beauty compared to the PD copies that have been circulating and incredibly better value than importing the Fox R1 editions. All in all I am a happy clam.

I got the Oland Chan set just before Christmas and still haven't had a chance to watch any of it. But, as Mark says above, they are licensed from the Fox masters, and therefore are of excellent quality, and have (as far as I am aware) all the extras from the US set included. Maybe the box artwork isn't as stellar as the US one, but it's the films that count.

Odeon announced (right down to the DVD cover) then apparently pulled the 1946 Lawrence Tierney Nazi-spy thriller "Step by Step." Wonder what's up with that...? confused.gif

It's possible (probable) that Odeon couldn't source a good enough master of the movie to author the disc from. In the past Odeon have done exceptionally well sourcing decent masters like the Chan pictures or the Saint and Falcon pictures from RKO. Of the latter movies, even the BBC has wound up showing copies sourced from 16mm C&C Television Corporation masters. It also could be that Step By Step has a lot of print damage (as The Gay Falcon had on its BBC outing - the titles were reconstructed from still video frames).

I got WG for Xmas (thanks, mom...) and it is indeed nicely done. I hope Odeon does get around to putting out their other UK horrors on bd this year.

Got a few Odeon titles a few weeks ago:

Armored Car Robbery (1950)

Cornered (1945)

Experiment Perilous (1944).

Out of the three, Armored Car Robbery (and based on early viewing, skipping through the chapters) and Cornered looked the best.

Not sure if it's included in newer copies of their older titles, but in Odeon's DVD release of Deadline at Dawn (1946) there's a card, on which is a questionnaire, where you can suggest a film you'd like to see released on DVD by them, and what are your favourite film genres from the choices given. Sending the card back to Odeon Entertainment you can get a free copy of Step by Step (1946) via post. This is also available on Odeon's website as well (by filling in a questionnaire form).

Am assuming that Step by Step will be available on Amazon UK for example, once the offer ends at the end of June.

There's a bit of concern going on that Odeon's release of Not Now Darling may be the bowldlerised version released in the UK by Slam Dunk Media in 2007. I haven't seen the disc yet or heard any confirmation, but the disc is the same BBFC rating as the 2007 release which had a number of cuts imposed by the BBFC for nudity and language to obtain a PG rating. Confusingly, the BBFC website (which has only just decided to start working after a weekend offline) gives the original certification as an A and required unspecified cuts to secure that.

Even more confusingly Play has it listed as not out until April 16, while Amazon says they have it in stock and other retailers are awaiting stock.

Odeon had better get its act together over the four Motos due out in May. The cover artwork on their website is intended to match the house style for the Falcon and Saint movies - right down to accrediting the movies to RKO Radio Pictures when they were made by Twentieth Century Fox.

Odeon's website is now carrying updated artwork for the Motos without the blue flash and the RKO logo. I just hope they got to the printers before the covers were done. smiley_wink.gif
