Forum is unusable in Firefox 4

I know the general availability is only final for the last two days but I'm surprised more folks aren't bitching about it, but HTF is generally a mess for posting purposes under Firefox 4.0

Sam, I got a similar report from a reviewer.  Can you give me the 30 sec version of what is happening and try clearing your cache to see if that fixes it?

Sam-

I did a follow-up and the cache clear worked with the earlier report.  Can you see if it does the trick for you?  We had some java wonkiness a week or so ago while we were trying to tune the site and increase performance.  Not sure if some older files in your cache aren't playing nice with FF 4.

Yeah, the firefox4 thing is bad.  Brief summary:

Reply box still a mess, have to go to source mode to create a paragraph or to get after a quote.

Multi-quote doesn't function correctly at all

Links can't be pasted in.. you have to go to source mode to do it unless you have already been in source mode to add a paragraph

Scrolling is wonky; I find  I occassionally get bounced to the top of a page or reply box wiped out if I flip to another tab (note: this also happens in Chrome)

Matt-

Can you try a cache clear too and let me know if it is any better?

I did.  It doesn't help the blank return thing   I still can't hit return without going to source mode.   I can try here.. nope.   Just stays at the top

Its interesting that it appears that it actually inserted them.  So are all the things you reported in post 4 still happening, or just the cursor issue?  Can you refresh my memory on what OS you are running so I can get this ticketed? Thanks

Oh, it inserts them... at the bottom.  If you look in the source, they are tehre, but you can't arrow down to them.   So you have to go to source, find the marker for it, and then move your cursor and start typing.

See what I put in the reply thread. The weird thing is that editing replies seems to work perfectly for me

Matt and Sam, what OS are you using?

Did clearing cache fix any of the other problems you reported?

What reply thread?

Yup that one.  And all the bugs are still there today.

Thanks Sam.  Engineering is still looking at the issues.  In the meantime I heard about a workaround from another site owner:

Quote:

Although Firefox 4.0 does not play nice with the editor, we have found that switching source mode on and off, or clicking on the CLEAR button does bring back functionality.  Until the issue is fixed, give these work-around solutions a try.

The same problems as above with the addition of not being able to use the COPY function. It does not allow that option to be clicked.

In addition to the problems posting, the same basic issues are coming up in sending private messages.

So far the only thing that works for me is to post a REPLY and then click EDIT. In the EDIT mode, full functions return, including the cursor.

I want to echo everything that has been said above...I have to switch to Chrome when I edit my movie lists and so forth.

Lots of issues with FF 4.0.

No.  Not that I can tell.

We are still working on FF4 and IE9.  Can any of you verify if the work around I posted above actually works?

Switching to the BB CODE seems to have worked for me so far.

Actually, hitting the source button on and off allows me to reply and see the cursor!

Seems to now have the correct functionality. Thanks.

We will be loading some fixes for IE9 and FF4 later today.

Hitting the source button works in both FF4 and IE9 (x64).  So, that solves both

Can you try clearing your cache and see if you are still having the problem?  We loaded some fixes late today for FF4

Cache cleared.  I can see the insert point and use control-V again.

Thanks!

Thanks for checking Sam.  If you have any other issues with FF4 please let me know.

All of the sudden, now when I hit "quote" in FF4, the entire page goes kind of grey, and it sits there "thinking" unless I hit stop, and then it says "an error has occurred" the multi-quote option seems to autoturn on as well.   So I'm just copying and pasting into source mode..

Have you cleared your cache since we loaded the update?  Did it work prior to the last update?

Yeah Firefox is still wonky.

Clearing cache didn't work for me, but clicking on the Source button twice made the reply area usable. Will test further.

HTF on FF4 has bombed on OSX, XP, Vista and W7 for me...

EDIT - just restarted, in order to get it to work, I need to hit Source, then type something in the box, then hit source again, and then the reply box works for the rest of my session. Weird.
