Breaking Bad Season 4

So, it's that time of year.  I start searching to see when season 4 is going to start.  It usually starts in March.

Then I come across this article, saying that the season start has been pushed to July!  Argh.

http://tvovermind.zap2it.com/cable/amc/breaking-bad/breaking-bad-season-4-delayed/27843

I guess July will be here soon enough - but the waiting is the hardest part.

And I thought at one point it was pushed back to June...was it pushed back twice?

This season is off to a nice start. Love how it's become a chess game between Gus and Walt. Did Skylar gain weight? Tough to watch Hank in his condition as a consequence of Walt's current baggage. A little strange watching Jessie snapped out of his shock after what Gus did, like it unlocked his own killer instinct into something acceptable to his mind.

Amazing season opener. And the scene with Gus, WOW.

Eventhough it wasn't hard to see what was going to happen, the build up and suspense of that scene was brilliant. I liked that even Mike was shocked by Gus' actions.

Mike's reaction (Instinctively pointing his gun and then recoiling) was the best part.  The fact that he, of all people, was freaking out sold it even better than the gore itself.

It was brilliant with the way that whole scene happened. I also like how Gus doesn't say a single word during that time, with the unassuming look on his face, and how he switches on and off from it. Just shows everyone who is really boss.

Also, we see Skyler slipping more into Walt's dark world, with the way she uses her baby to lie to the locksmith, and trying to hide the fact that Walt was not home from Jr.

This was a great season opener, and while this show was not eligible this year, this episode alone is enough of a reminder that they will score a lot of Emmy noms next year.

Favorite parts?

  • Jesse's weird reaction to the throat-slashing. He seemed pissed off and kind of into it, more than terrified. I guess Walt finally broke him.
  • Mike's reaction to both the execution, and the guys cleaning up. I kept expecting him to go, "How are you people still alive??"
  • Skyler pushing her baby on the locksmith to coerce him into opening the door.

So, I'm guessing Gus will not be hanging around for much longer. It's either him or the guys, now. And Mike may be getting second thoughts about his employment situation.

My money's on preggers (not Skylar, but the actress playing her).  She has that puffy face pregnant look that some women get.  It seemed like they were trying to conceal her belly as well.

Great premiere.  Picked up right where season 3 left off (literally and figuratively).

This show continues to fire on all cylinders. The hour always feels like 10 minutes.

When Walt was walking down the street to the Chicken Man's house I told my wife he won't even make it to the lawn. Then he gets the call - "Go home Walt."

Mike seems very troubled at the situation he's in.

Jessie wanted the party to be endless so he wouldn't have to be alone with his thoughts.

Can't wait till next Sunday.

How great was Aaron Paul in this episode?

Anytime you get Jim Beaver (Ellsworth on Deadwood) in your episode, you've done good. I just wish they used him in a role that had more of a chance to recur.

I did like seeing that robot vacuum cleaner's point of view, and how eerie it was, seeing it navigating around people who were wasted.

It's interesting to see how Skyler is slowly entering the criminal world, much the same way as Walt did, as both started doing it to help family.

A car wash can be a very dangerous place to work.
I wonder if the Widow will sell to Skylar at a discount?

Sklyer breaking bad was sort of funny in retrospect. Marie's kleptomania was just a way to get Hank back on his DEA game.

Yeah, I like how this episode focused more on the female characters. Marie finally acting out after taking so much of Hank's outbursts, who has definitely hit rock bottom. (sorry I meant minerals!). And Skyler becoming a bigger part in the operation.

Interesting to see last week, Walt gets on Skyler for mentioning "car wash" on the answering machine, and this week, it's the accountant in Skyler doing the same to Walt for buying expensive wine, as they are trying to cover their tracks.

With Hank having the lab notes, I just have a feeling he will be able to connect the dots to see how Heisenberg really is, by the end of the season. I'm just speculating here.

We know the answer to that now. smile.gif And I like how she sticks it to the owner, by lowballing for the car wash.

As I watched Skyler and Walt celebrate with the champagne, I couldn't help but think that this is the best it's going to get for the both of them, at this stage in their criminal careers. It could all be downhill from here.

I think Walt absolutely realizes the gravity of the mess he's created with Jesse, but doesn't know how to even begin cleaning it up. The half-assed, "Do you want to talk about it?" overtures are the best he can do, right at the moment.

The security cameras are the cherry on top of Walt's isolation. Even hardened gangsters and crime lords don't want to risk being in the same room as this guy.

Everyone must've DVRed last nights episode because if you saw it, there's no way this thread would be this quiet.

Wow is all I can say. Thrills, tension and amazing acting. In a word, awesome.

I saw it live last night, first time in a while. With the way the episode opened, the cartel is definitely not out of the picture, assuming it's them.

That whole scene with the W.W. initials, and how Hank jokingly said it stood for Walt White, and Walt's response was "you got me!", was really something, and perhaps a foreshadow of what's to come at the end of this season.

Walt getting annoyed with Skyler's script and trying to master blackjack was hilarious!

The look on Walt's face when he saw Gale was priceless. Nice callback to that Walt Whitman poem that Gale recited last year. This is one of those very rare shows where I just marvel at how good it is and how well they pull me in.

It's at the point where I say it every week but Aaron Paul is incredible. He's actually showing up Bryan Cranston this year. Although I'm sure Cranston is going to get his moment in the acting sun too.

As a side note, Breaking Bad must have the most bald men in the history of TV.

What I'm interested in is that apparently there is a next season..  I have the same thought I had about the Sopranos final season.. will we see any of it in a courtroom, or is this going right down to the wire?   There are so many open possibilities you have no idea.. and does Aaron Paul escape or is he DOOMED?

Through out the run of the show, they've always said that they felt that the show couldn't run that long so next season is probably the last one.

And thanks to AMC spending all their money on Mad Men, they apparently need to cut the cost of their shows to the bone (Frank Darabont's firing from The Walking Dead suddenly makes sense) so they want Breaking Bad to only make 6 or 8 episodes next year. Fortunately, the creative team and Sony are looking at going to another channel that hasn't spent all their money on one show and will give them 13 episodes.

So is there an update since this?  http://www.aoltv.com/2011/08/04/amc-president-collier-breaking-bad-walking-dead/

Man, this show has the best opening scenes of any show in the history of television, and this week was no exception.  Best one since "Everyone knows it's Windy..."

Hello everyone!

I have a co-worker that has been urging me to watch

Breaking Bad for the past year now.  Primarily, I had

ignored his pleas simply because I didn't want to get

tied to another TV show.

Well, I set my Tivo to record the show, and yesterday

I watched the first 4 episodes of Season 4.

WOW!

I had a very basic knowledge of the show: a man

turns to running a meth lab in order to make some

quick cash, with the intent of giving it up as soon as

he could.

Coming in with that basic knowledge into season 4,

I was completely drawn in by Walter's inprisonment

by ruthless criminals headed up by a real nasty SOB

named Gus.

The first episode of this season couldn't have been

any more riveting as Gus arrives to suit up and handle

a complicated matter using a box cutter.

I am simply amazed as to how good this show is.  What

really draws me in is the show's stylish photography.

I love the shots taken from beneath the overhead catwalk

of the meth lab or from a small camera mounted on a

robo-vacuum.

Still a lot of small details I have to pick up about the

characters (like what the hell is with Hank's wife?), which

I will get from my buddy at work.

So now the big question...

Is it worth investing about $70 to buy the first 3 seasons

of this show on Blu-ray?

Can't wait for the next episode.  I am completely hooked

on this show.

Its a fantastic show Ron, it had the unfortunate timing of coming on thou as my wife was going thru the exact same thing, chemo that is not a life of crime, (funny I can even Joke about it now), I really could'nt watch it as entertainment when I knew what my wife was going thru everyweek. After she passed away I started watching again. The story is about more than the cancer, thats the mcguffin to get walt's slide going, but its not the story. The acting is just so good and Aaron paul as Jessie is fantastic. You'll find yourself rooting for this guy as he is a basically good individual trapped by this circumstance. Walt drags him down, although Jessie doesnt need much pushing. If there is one character I hope can survive the upcoming Crap Storm its Jessie, but things look dire for him. And your correct on the cinematography for this show it deserves many awards.

I've waited after the seasones were released on Blu and was able to get them for around $25 each or less. Look around, they are worth it. We don't get AMC in HD here so I'm DL the Itunes version this season as even 720p is better than watching this show in 480p.

Ron, honestly if I were you I would stop watching now and start from the beginning.  You'll get much more out of it, and I think it's important to see the transition of Walter White.

It's the best show on TV since 'The Wire'.

Scott,

Easier said than done, as that will mean having to do a

marathon-type watch of 3 seasons worth of shows.

I am *hoping* there are only up to 13 shows per season

which would make it easier.

I am awaiting a credit to appear on my Amazon account

and then I plan to buy the first 3 seasons which are now

averaging under $25 each on Blu-ray.

Couldn't you just continue to record season 4 on your DVR, but not watch it yet...then go through the first 3 seasons at your own pace, and watch season 4 on the DVR when you're ready?

And yes, none of the seasons are more than 12-13 episodes and I'm pretty sure season 1 was only like 6-8 episodes.

WIll have to do that.  With some luck, I'll have the first

3 seasons in my hand this weekend.

May take less than a month to watch them all.

Good to be among fans.
