when TV is turn off receiver turns off too - what changed?

Hello everyone. I currently own a Vizio TV VF552XVT, I also own a Yamaha RX-V565 receiver. In the last week or so I noticed that everytime I turn off my TV, my receiver turns off automatically with no remote signal been sent to it. I even turn the TV off manually and the receiver turns off, yet when I turn the TV on, i still have to turn on the receiver manually or by remote.

Any idea what might be causing this?

on a side note, do not know if it is related. It was working fine recently with no changes, lately I have been noticing that hard resets are required(unplugging the receiver from power for 10 seconds) as audio will not come out of any input when turning the unit on.

Don't know the TV or receiver but there is an HDMI standard (can't remember the acronym) that enables this functionality.  Check your settings and documentation.

hmmm, this is quite killing me. I have been looking both online and in the manuals, but no clue.

The only thing that comes to mind is that due to the TV been internet enabled, an update brought this functionality. I am still looking to see what can it possibly be.

The HDMI CEC interactive functions are by different names for different brands.  For Onkyo it is RIHD, Panasonic Viera, Toshiba, REGZA-LINK, etc.  I believe that LG's is SimpLink.  I do not know if your TV supports it.  If it does check your setup menu.  The control may have come with a firmware update. Your Yamaha does support this functionality but I do not know if it has a branded name.   If both support HDMI CEC standards this could very well account your 'problem' and you would need to turn the capability off.
