DVD/VCR Combo

I'm replacing an old combo tv with a plasma and i want to buy a combo player for it. i was hoping to get a blu-ray/vcr combo but the only one i saw was the Panasonic model which runs for $1500!  that is more than twice the price of the tv i'm buying.

 

after what i'm spending on the tv my budget doesn't allow for much more than $100 for the unit and the cables. it would be nice to have one with an HDMI output for the DVDs but a recorder isn't necessary. if any of you have one of these that you are happy with please let me know.

 

i've done a lot of searching and i am down to these 2 choices :

Toshiba SD-V296 Tunerless DVD VCR Combo

or

 

Sylvania ZV420SL8 Dual DVD / VCR Recorder

 

 

please give me your opinions.

Toshiba SD-V296  on Amazon 19 reviews 10 3 stars or less.  19th best selling

 

Sylvania ZV420SL8 on Amazon 5 reviews 3 5 star 2 1 star.
