Recommend a receiver for a Klipsch 7.1 setup...?

I recently expanded my home theatre setup from 2x Klipsch RF-15 towers to 4x RF-15 towers, a RC-52 centre, 2x RSX-4 rears, and a Klipsch KSW-10 sub.  The system sounds great as is but my aging sony str de515 receiver gets hot enough to fry an egg and tends to go into protect when I try to change the volume remotely (all of my wiring is perfect). The outdated in/out layout makes hooking up modern gear awkward.

Things I need out of a receiver:

- at least 600 watts output

- at least 2 sets of HDMI I/O's (ins from cable box and bluray, outs to tv and projector)

- outs for 7.1

- most accurate sound reproduction I can get at a reasonable price.

Any thoughts/recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Klipsch speakers shouldn't need all that much juice as they're very efficient speakers.

Not sure what a "reasoable" price means for you but...smile.gif

Marantz/7002 from Ac4l.com. It's a factory refurbished model but still comes with a one year warranty. They have one left.  It's last years model so it's not 3D capable. $599. Very strong amp section.

They also have the Marantz 7005 which is 3D for $1099 and has an even stronger amp section than the 7002.

Onkyo/1008. Also a refurb. Does 3D. $839.

Ac4l.com is an authorized dealer for Onkyo and Marantz.

The Pioneer Elite VSX-33 has dual outputs but the amp section is kind of weak compared to the others.

The Elite SC-35 would work but it's a bit more expensive than the others as it would be a new receiver vs. a refurb.

Two hdmi outputs are reserved for the higher priced models. But you could drop to a cheaper receiver and get this single input/dual output hdmi switcher for $22 from Amazon. I've never used one though so I can't say how well they work.

The Yamaha A-2000 also has dual hdmi outputs.

I couldn't find a reasoanbly priced Denon or Harman Kardon with dual hdmi outputs. Didn't look all that hard either blush.gif . It's suppertime!

Thanks for the info Gene! Any word on the reliability of refurbished A/V gear? I've heard some horror stories about warranty claims to do with receivers. It's too bad I'm not prepared to make a purchase right now because that 7002 is a great deal! Also I'm not sure if it would be worth it to buy online for me since I live in canada and shipping heavy stuff across the border tends to cost a tonne.

You can hear horror stories about anything. But I haven't heard anything negative about refurbished receivers. Not saying something has never gone hay-wire, I just haven't heard about it. But things can go wrong with new gear as well. As they say, "you pay your money and you take your chances". Just buy from an authorized dealer.

Canada, eh? Say hello to Mike Holms for me! (I love his shows).

Don't worry about missing out on the 7002. Great deals can be found all the time. Just have to know where to look. In the mean time, educate yourself. The more you know about this stuff the better you'll feel about your decision when the time come to lay your money down.

You can find the tx-nr1008 new in sealed box from the big river and the eggman for 799 if you watch the pricing day to day but both are out of stock at the moment.  The tx-nr3008 can be had for 1149 tonight from the eggman (probably go up tomorrow)  in stock or ordered from big river although not in stock for the moment.  That is some receiver at that price.
