Easy way to switch from over the air antenna to cable and back again? Sony KDL-40S5100 and Sony...

I have a  Sony KDL-40S5100 and a Sony HTCT500 3.1 av system.  For reasons I have explained elsewhere, I frequently watch certain programs using rabbit ears attached to the  Sony KDL-40S5100.  But other members of the family often want to watch using the cable box.

It seems to take an awful lot of steps to switch from one to the other, especially from TV antenna to cable.  Is there any simple way to set these up so that I can switch from one to the other seamlessly?

Thanks,

Len

You should have the antenna connected to the cable/antenna input.  Take your cable box and use the video outputs (HDMI or component would be best) to connect it to the video inputs on your TV (HDMI 1 for example).  When you want to watch the over the air channels, do to the antenna input, when you want to watch the cable box go to the input you have it hooked up to.  Hitting the input or video button on the remote a few times will be all you need to switch back and forth.

How do you have them hooked up now?

I think the set up I have is as follows:

I have the rabbit ears attached to the cable input on the tv.

The cable box is attached to the HTC500.

I also have the tv audio attached to the HTC500 via optial audio output, so that it comes back through the HDMI connection.

(BTW The over the air picture is outstanding when I have a good signal).

I am making progress, I think.  To go to TV, I hit TV on the HTCs remote. I may then have to set the tv antenna input to antenna. (Sometimes the tv's menu shows it is  already on antenna, oddly I have to change it to cable and then back again)  When I want to switch back to cable I hit the cable input on the HTC and then use the tv remote's input button several times as you suggest.

So it seems to be working for me when I am in a patient mode and not in a hurry, but is hard to explain to other family members.

I'll report back.
