Home theater being updated....

So I'm in the process of bidding out a face-lift for my home theater. I have never done a big bang update before but I have the extra money so I decided to jump. Of coarse I'm watching CES to see if there is going to be anything so cool that I have to wait. :) I thought I would start the post by showing my current theater.

Equipment

So now I'm looking at replacing this equipment with:

Panasonic TC-P65VT25 65-inch 3D Ready 1080p VIERA Plasma
Definitive Technology Mythos XTR60 (3)
Definitive Technology Mythos XTR20BP (4)
Definitive Technology SuperCube II
PIONEER ELITE SC-37 7.1 Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver

It looks like the TV comes with a 3D Bluray player so I'll use it for a while then maybe pickup the OPPO later. I'm planning on full wall mounted hidden cabling and maybe a small rack for the equipment. If there are people interested in some gear I'll be selling all the speakers, sub, receiver, TV, entertainment furniture (unit that surrounds the TV). Any changes you would make?

You should go to a front projector(if possible).

Long term I'm thinking about adding one. Right now my focus is a system that will meet my current use. 50% video gaming, 30% Movies, 20% TV. Plus I have the wife factor and she thinks 65inches is plenty. Sometimes to get approval you have a higher boss. smiley_wink.gif

Well I took the plunge today and ordered my new equipment. He is the list of new new toys:

Panasonic TC-P65VT25 65-inch 3D Ready 1080p VIERA Plasma
Panasonic DMP-BDT100 3D Bluray Player
Panasonic 3D Ultimate Pack (Avatar 3D + 2 Glasses)
Panasonic 3D Glasses (additional pair bring total to 4)
Pioneer Elite SC-37 7.1 Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver
Definitive Technology Mythos XTR60 (3)
Definitive Technology Mythos XTR20BP (4)
Definitive Technology SuperCube II

So I should meet with the installer on Monday. I should have a install date in the next couple weeks just in time for my birthday.

Well all my gear comes in tomorrow... However, Magnolia Hi-Fi won't do an install before the 16th of Feb so I'm going to do it myself with my brother helping on the in-wall stuff.. Fun starts tomorrow!

Well I got my TV hooked up today as well as the rest of the gear....

Lone and behold my receiver appears to have issues. Every-time I do a speaker test or watch surround material it crashes with a flashing blue light on the power button. When I tried to do the advanced MCACC it crashed and now I'm really hosed with the advanced MCACC light flashing and I can't turn it on or reset it. I was looking forward to watching a movie tonight.... :(

Well I had a defective receiver but Magnolia Hi-Fi took care of me and swapped it out. So.... Here are some new pictures. Only have clean-up, drywall patching and painting left.

If you haven't heard the Definitive Tech on-wall speakers you owe them a listen if your in the market for speakers. I'm very impressed with the sound field these speakers produce. I will write up a full review shortly.

Well I finally finished the work on my room. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Overall this has been a very rewarding upgrade. My wife likes it so much that we are going to wall mount the TV in the bedroom now.

awesome room.  Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I agree looks great, thanks for the pics.  How well does your Kinect work mounted that high?

The front-page summary says you used in-speakers, but it looks like they are thin, wall-mounted speakers from the pics and Crutchfield's description of the speakers

Can you elaborate on the choice of speakers and the physical mounting? :)

They may be mounted in-wall; the photos don't give a clear view.

The Kinect works great. The mounting instructions call min of 2ft from the floor and a max of 6ft. I'm at the max of 6ft. Mounting it high also shortens the space you need to play as well. By the way I was unable to find a in wall rated USB cable so I needed to ad shielding. Then you can't use the USB power and you must plug in the Kinect.

The speakers are on-wall with a flush mounting system. I did write up a little review... Not much of a writer sorry about that.

oh Adam we should do a Wa meet-up it would be great to hear your opinion. :)

I had to do the same with the USB to my Kinect which I ran in-wall.  It sits on top of the TV stand.  I'll get around to posting pics one of these days.  I love the Panasonic 65VT25.  I look forward to reading your speaker review.  Absolutely on the WA get together, just post something in the meet area.

Thanks for describing it. I demo'd similar slim profile, wall-mountable speakers (paradigm). It's impressive what they can do in such a compact design.

Nice set up, have the 58 Panasonic Plasma on the wall myself but not as elaborate as your set up. Have Polk floorstanding speakers Vs in wall have been thinking on getting the Energy take five classic satellites but every one suggest to keep the Polks, I am tempted to try them out in my F/R, the Basement has other Polks with my front projector do like the highs of the satellites, oh well.
