2011 at the Box Office - Page 10

It's a shame horror fans are so (fill in the blank with your own word) or that mainstream horror fans only go for stuff like FINAL DESTINATION 5 or various other crap that gets released. I believe it was nearly a year ago when LET ME IN got great reviews but no one went to see it. I just got back from FRIGHT NIGHT and it was a very good movie and at least it was made for adults and tried to return the "scary" side of vampires. It's too bad but hopefully people will enjoy FD6 or whatever other video game is lined up.

I thought it was funny that many theaters around here were showing the 2D version during the cheaper matinee showtimes while the 3D version was only at night. This was true for FN as well as CONAN.

Hugo made 75 percent of its opening weekend gross in 3D screenings. Proof that audiences do know the difference between genuine 3D films and shoddy post-converted jobs.

I think Hugo only being on less than 1,300 screens means that the bulk of those screens were 3-D and that's why so much of its gross came from 3-D screens. Never say never but I'd be flabbergasted if a significant portion of the public knew or cared about the difference between movies that were shot in 3-D and movies that were converted to 3-D.

You may be right, but it was only on one screen in 3D at my multiplex versus three or four in 2D; Puss in Boots and Arthur Christmas ate up most of the 3D screens. While post-conversion 3D films like Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Green Lantern, and the final Harry Potter unquestionably opened on thousands of additional screens, they also opened on many more 3D screens. Their 3D opening weekend percentage was 46%, 45% and 43% respectively; a not trivial difference from Hugo.
