Hey, anyone know anything about the Optavision HDMI 80 projector? I got one on ebay and the manual is very limited. Can't adjust size of picture and it projects everything in large "pixels". Is this thing any good?

No, it is not any good. If you have any way to get your money back, do it. I sure wish people would ask BEFORE they buy. The native resolution is 800 X 600, which is awful in this day and age, and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Maybe you mean another model? My packaging states that the native resolution is 1920x1080. Resolution on screen seems less but I cannot figure out how to change it. See the link below

Under "Display Technology" see where it says "Processing and Resolution"? It says 1920 X 1080(MAX). NOT native resolution. I looked on Ebay and it says 800 X 600 Native resolution. It's what's called VERY MISLEADING ADVERTISING.

Hey guys, I am also looking at this projector on Ebay and had concerns about it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330508239855

According to the below item specifics copied from that ebay listing, the Opta Vision HDMI80 has NATIVE 1920x1080...

Item specifics

Condition:

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details. See all condition definitions- opens in a new window or tab... Read moreabout the condition

Brand:

Opta Vision

Warranty:

1 Year Warranty

Image Aspect Ratio:

16:10

Data Projector Type:

LCD

Native Resolution:

1920 x 1080

However, the manufacturers website does NOT specify NATIVE resolution only MAX as 1920x1080 and there is no contact info on the MFR website either except for email.....lame.

When I bought the HDMI-80 about a month ago, first thing I did was search the internet and found this and one other forum about it. When I read this I thought, "Uh oh." So I went and hooked it up to my cable box via HDMI cable and I got nothing. The only thing I could see was 'no sync' displayed. I went back to the internet and tried to find anything I could to help. As Graybliss stated, the manual is sparse at best. The only thing I could find was the usual 'input is not in sync with the projector.' That made me believe Jim Mcc post even more and the fear that I totally wasted my money. So here it is a month later and I switch from cable to Direct tv. I get their new fangled DVR receivers with touchscreens on the front. So I start playing around with them to see what's what on my flat screen and playing with the screen resolution I try to change it to 1080p and it tells me, 'HDMI output only'.
Hmm, I think; let me try it with these receivers. I hook it up and hold my breath, nothing but 'no sync'. I use the touchscreen to change the resolution but it won't go to 1080p; just skips over it.
"Crap." I think, "What a waste of money. I should have known better than to buy it out of the back of a van at a gas station."
Then I remember that I had to go into the receiver menu and enable 1080p, it was off by default. So I cross my fingers, enable it, it propmts me that if I don't see anything it will revert automatically. "No harm, no foul" I think. I hit OK and BAM!
Full on HD 1080p, 4 foot tall on my wall! Clear as a bell. No pixillation, no jitters, just beautiful 1080p full on!
800 x 600 at 60 Hz native resolution yes; if you want to use it on your PC. But also full HD, 1080p resolution through the HDMI cable capability if you have the right input.
Moral of the story, the HDMI-80 works great! Cable still sucks!
Check the output resolution of your box and make sure it's capable of 1080p out. You'll probably have to have your tv and the projector connected at the same time to see where you're at in the menu, but once you get the right output, you're golden.
I no longer think that buying this projector and the 4 foot screen was a waste of $500.

I just bought the optavision on Ebay for $600. I was a little skeptical at first but now I hooked it up I'm stoked. The signal it shoot out is just as good if not better than my panasonic flat screen . No a bad deal at all since the screen and ceiling mounts were included. Great deal for the money!

I was about to purchase this Optavision projector. I'm from a couple of generations before most of you so ~ be gentle!

After reading all of your posts, I'm not sure. My purpose for this instrument is two fold. The home theater use is intriguing but my greatest use will be to show video and photos to a group from my PC. Of course, now that the home theater idea has come up, I may do that as well for the group. I understand what you wrote about showing the signal directly from the cable box with high resolution but I want to show from my PC in high resolution. The movie shown from my laptop may be recorded, received directly through the internet or from a CD. Am I stuck to 800 x 600 or can I show a movie and / or photos in high resolution form my laptop?

Thanks for your input.

I bought a Optavision HDMI 80 from a buddy of mine and I think he got me. After a week the projector would not light up. So I changed the bulb and no light. I can't afford to go buy another one and I can't find out anything about repairs services. Does anyone have an idea for repair in Los Angeles.

Home theater is really picking up. It seems that people no longer want to stand in line at theaters to buy tickets, buy food, and then again to have your ticket ripped, only to find out that the only two seats together are in the front row. People would rather drop a couple grand right now and be treated to the privacy and luxury of their own theater instead of putting that money into the pockets of the huge theater business. I was very pleased with the performance of my Optavision HDMI 80 projector. Perfect for the PRICE!

I have been researching Optavision projetors. The "back of the truck" scam is a common one. I am an attorney and would be interested in visiting with anyone who purchased this projector via misrepresentations etc. www.schneiderwallace.com please leave a web submission by clicking the contact us button and we will get back to you in short order.

People need to do some research before they buy pieces of crap like this. Or at least ask on one of these forums before buying.
