The Fugitive: Season 4 Vol. 2 - Page 10

Thanks for the link Jack and it is sad what happened to the park because I was thinking at the ending scene how nice the park looked and it turns out it was basically shut down.

It was a great place for the climax of a great show !

I watched the two parts of the finale last night; it was terrific. It looked great on DVD too - clear, crisp images and colors that pop.

What a long journey it was. I felt exhausted for Kimble, and seeing as it took me nearly four years to watch the whole series, I was just about in tune with the original viewers of the show.

I have a few complaints about the ending. For one, the introduction of a previously unseen character (Lloyd) who can confirm Kimble's innocence is kind of the series' deux ex machina. It comes out of nowhere and resolves everything. Are we to believe that he would have let Kimble - a friend of his! - be put to death rather than own up to his own cowardice? It stretches credibility. Also, if Gerard came to believe there was a possibility that Kimble could prove his innocence (thus, the 24 hours to clear his name), why only 24 hours? Was he going to look at his watch and say "Nope, it's been 24 hours, time's up, off to the electric chair" ? Again, strains credibility.

But ultimately, the joy we feel is the end of the long journey, of Kimble finally being declared innocent and set free to resume his life. He went through hell, and we went on a tour through what was often the darker parts of America in the mid-1960s.

I look forward to starting from the beginning in a few years and going straight through again (in less time though! Maybe one year instead of four!)

I always wish that the character of Chandler had been introduced in a previous episode, but supposedly there was a rush job to do the final episode and that it was not something they'd had a whole season to do a planned build-up to.    That said, I always understood the plausibility of Chandler's actions (I've forgotten how to do the spoiler feature here).

I'm not quite at the ending yet but watched another two-parter last night, the brilliant "Landscape with Running Figures", shows I guess how I'm taking my time with this great show.

Landscape is one of the best episodes of the four seasons.  Great writing and great performances.  Wonderful!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I wish someone on the show would have asked Chandler if he would have kept quiet and let Kimble be executed.  He was supposedly days from execution when the train derailed (He looks at the world for the last time and sees only darkness.)  My biggest problem with the show was the idea that Chandler would bail Johnson out of jail, using Len Taft's name.  If the authorities did latch onto Johnson as the real killer, did Lloyd think Johnson would expose him as a cowardly witness?  Not likely at all.  He would have not done a thing and let it play out.  It was dumb but it made for a good two hours if you didn't think about it.

"Landscape" is one of the best scripts ever filmed for The Fugitive, but it is SERIOUSLY hobbled by the way, Way, WAY, over the top performance by Barbara Rush. This two-parter is one of the worst jobs that the very talented Mr. Grauman did with regard to directing his performers.

I would counter that with the scene at the darkened bar where Kimble reminisces about meeting his wife and how Mrs Gerard begins to realize who the stranger is.While Ms Rush might have gone over the top later,I thought this scene was subtle and underplayed beautifully.

I thought it was well done and that Ms. Rush is fine.  Yeah, she went a little crazy when she realized that Kimble was on to her, but the fact she was near a nervous breakdown is what brought her to this point anyway.  Kudos to all for a great episode.

Steve, we certainly have different standards as to what is worthy of kudos, don't we? That's what makes life fun. A little FYI: "The director, Walter Grauman, who is one of my close personal friends, let her (Barbara Rush) cry all the way through the goddamned thing. It just ruined the character. This was not a cry-baby, wimpy woman. And I just felt that her concept, the concept that she and Walter worked out for Gerard's wife, was faulty and bad. I just felt that they really blew it on the character of Mrs. Gerard." - Producer Alan Armer, as quoted in Mel Proctor's The Official Fan's Guide to The Fugitive c.1995 Longmeadow Press. I couldn't agree more w/the late Mr. Armer, but to each his own.

Todd, If she was that tough she wouldn't have been on the bus in the first place. Then, to be blinded, it may have made a strong woman weepy. Many of us think this is a richly layered, well done episode. I do.

If I have one criticism, it is Kimble's hanging around to talk to the mororcycle cop at the end of Part II. Why the cop didn't recognize him and then no one thought a thing of him slipping away as more police cars arrived, seemed like a big stretch of credulity. Overall though, I do love this episode.

Well thanks to Netflix, I watched every single episde and finally made it to the end of this series, having never watched a single show before, I was aware of the premise and heard good things about the show..what I was not prepared for was some really remarkable and intense TV episodes..All 4 seasons were really great, of course the standouts being the 1st couple of seasons..I could sit thru 4 or 5 episodes at a time, which shows how captivating it was..although on the downside, it almost became comical as to how he would escape Gerrard or local police after awhile..
But, the last episode..while it was very entertaining and intense, a couple of things that had me bewildered...first , Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
all along, there
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
was another guy there watching this, and he never says anything
, this was truely wtf moment and then when Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Gerrard hands Kimble a gun
, pretty much against everything he did in this show..while this didnt ruin the experience, I dont see why the writers resorted to this , they didnt need to..

[The following is erroneous information, corrected below.  Please ignore]

You have to use the [CC] "Close Captioned" option on your television.  There are no DVD subtitles on either of the Season 4 sets.

look i'm from southamerica and i need the subtitles so i can translate it to spanish , and in this forum i found someone talking about this last dvd, that it has no cc only subtitles700
post #287 of 297

Crap.  I got it backwards - sorry about that.  The OLDER disc sets only have CC and the Season 4 sets have subtitles. (Easy to confuse when you generally use neither!)

Access the subtitles by going to the "Set Up" menu and turning on the "English For The Hard Of Hearing".  Or, some DVD/Blu-Ray players will simply allow you to turn them on or off with a button on the remote.

Again.  Sorry for the confusion.  Season Four has subtitles.  All others use [CC] Closed Captioning.

I've given my best shot at an answer above (and apologized for earlier mis-information), so I don't know how else to answer your question except to say:  "Usually at the bottom of the screen."  :)

Regardless of your motives, or the lack of Spanish subtitles, what you are proposing is illegal and we do no allow discussions of torrenting or other copy write violation method here.  Please consider this your only warning.

Okay, we've just gotten huge, huge news from TVShowsonDVD.com.  It looks like the upcoming Complete set is going to have the original music restored!  Check out the article on the guys site for more info, but this is just incredible!!!!

Gary "thanks to Gord and Dave for getting to the bottom of this and sharing the great news - you guys are the best!" O.

I'm glad to hear the check involves episodes other than S2 V1 that were "corrected" by the later release which I guess confirms that this is now as intact as it can get. I will be using up my bonus points from Amazon to knock down the price on this for me to the lowest level and order it for release date since I won't wait until Christmas to have a fixed version!

Now if only CBS/Paramount would do the same thing for "The Odd Couple"........

I think this is a bold move on the studio's part, even if it is also the right move for fans. I may be wrong (and will happily admit so) but I've always thought that if they took this approach they would see an initial reaction of "way to go, I'm in for the new set" followed by a second wave of "I'm reluctantly in, but they should have done it right the first time", and ending with "I bought it once, I shouldn't have to buy it again, I want mine replaced". Potentually, just leading to another backlash from the loudest consumers (the unhappiest).

I have the original season sets that have so far gone unwatched while I waited to see how it all panned out. So i will trade them in with the idea of being in group one and getting the new complete set with hopefully a majority of the music fixed. I have never watched this show before so it will be high on my list to start watching once the new set ir released.

As I also said once before, I'm not surprised by a low profile announcement. The majority of fans that would belong to sites like this will know soon enough and most likely buy the new set, even if some would grumble. But i wouldn't think they would want to overly emphasize it since that is how they could get the most negative flack from those wanting all out replacements. Just my take.

Since I'm not very confident on how the new set will be packaged, based on the presentation we have seen so far (looks like it could be disks in cardboard sleeves). I'm going to scan my current covers before trading them in so that if need be I can recreate the older set storage approach.
