Black Friday 2010 - listing of DVD/BD deals - Page 2

Ron, Mad Men quickly became one of my favorites this year.  I rented the first three seasons on blu-ray just before the fourth season started on AMC, then I watched it every week.  Great characters, good writing, looks wonderful in HD.  Go for it!

Can't believe I made it!

The things I'll do for a deal...

Have yet to see a single episode of this series, but thanks to overwhelmingly positive reviews everywhere I looked I decided to buy all three sets on Blu-ray.

Can't resist at this price.

Seriously doubt I'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm extremely selective when it comes to buying/collecting contemporary TV series, limiting myself to those I will unquestionably revisit many times over -- mainly The Wire and Deadwood and Mad Men.  I'll even forgive myself a double dip on Season One, for which I unhesitatingly grabbed that lovely cigarette lighter DVD set when first released.  Gotta have the BDs to watch, though.

Ultimate Electronics in Boulder CO's standee of $3.95 to $12.95 BluRays was not too remarkable. I showed up since titles vary by store so I hoped to be pleasantly surprised.

Other Boylan Girl $3.95 <-- pretty much the only one priced at $3.95 by the way

Hancock $4.95 <-- a great film, I have no idea why so cheap

Batman Begins $9.95

I Am Legend $8.95

Princess Bride $6.95 (Target has tons of this title for a dollar more)

Independence Day $I forget but somewhere between $8 and $10

Silence of the Lambs $I forget but somewhere between $7 and $8

Up In The Air $9.95 <--- totally worth it

and they had a few more copies of My Name Is Early S4 (BluRay) for $10, well worth it if you missed it last time.

and a bunch of other titles but nothing that you'd say "wow I never expected to see that on sale!"

Over at Target, their standees were all of DVDs, not BluRay, and customers looked really unsatisfied. There were some Blu's for sale like Princess Bride, Kingdom of Heaven, and other titles that Best Buy also has on sale, but nothing unique aside from the LOTR Trilogy which indeed was $60+ dollars off according to a sign (ending the mystery of whether it was a typo or not), but which was sold out.

Basically none of the stores were being too inventive.

Amazon has pretty much price matched majority of the BF ads.

I was able to pick up these BD's that I am glad I waited on the sale for.

Clash of The Titans (2010) $12.99

Book of Eli $12.99

Ninja Assassin $10.49

Just got back from Walmart. Picked up:

Batman Begins (Blu-Ray) $5

Batman: Gotham Knight (Blu-Ray) $5

How I Met Your Mother: Season 1 (DVD) $12

I Am Legend (Blu-Ray) $5

Taken (Blu-Ray) $10

Wizard of Oz (Blu-Ray) $10

Between those and the three titles I picked up on Amazon, I'm done buying until after Christmas. Everything I want coming out between then and now I'll ask for as a gift, and whatever doesn't end up under the tree I'll pick up in the after Christmas sales.

Walmart:

Almost bought 33 of the $5 BD titles, mainly to give away at my usual office DVD/BD giveaway, but had to face the music that most of my co-workers aren't BD-capable, so I ended up just picked up about 6 BD titles for me, and a couple for office workmates .

Did pick up 60+ of the $1.96 DVDs to give away, picked up more kids titles because most of my co-workers look for titles they can watch with their children.

Didn't buy anything at Target (after seeing all those $5 BD titles at Walmart, it was hard to pull the trigger on $7.99 BD titles elsewhere, plus the prospect of waiting in the lines just didn't sit well with me at the time), and didn't even go to Best Buy (broke a decade long streak) as nothing in their BF flyer made me want to go fight the traffic and parking situation at my nearby Best Buy.

Went to Fry's just to see what they were offering, and it was a dreadful BF sale.  It was like Fry's just didn't even try this year.  That being said, they still have a bunch of people in the store, but not as busy as they have been in the past few BF sales.

Came home, slept for a handful of hours, and did some online shopping with Amazon, and picked up the Mad Men S1-S3 BD sets for $9.99, as well as 4-5 BD titles that I passed on at Target and Best Buy at their $7.99/$10 price point.  Pare down the shopping cart on my first Amazon order today, but then found out about some weird Lightning Deal (now expired) where you get a combine $9 discount when you ordered Karate Kid BD and the Casino Royale DVD for a total of $7 and free shipping if you got your total order up to $25, so I ended up buying a couple of BDs I removed from my shopping cart on the first order, so it was good I decided to pare it down initially in order to pick up free shipping later on the 2nd order, and I get to give away the CCasino Royale DVD later.

This thread has been a lot of fun to read.

Love to hear about the bargains you guys have

been getting.

So, uhm, the other day I bought all 3 LOTR

films for $9 each.

Today I waited for the lightening deal on

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and scooped one up

for $9.  Need to thank Adam Gregorich for all

his support in making certain I got that film as

he knew I had wanted it for quite some time.

The BIG GET for me is Back To The Future.

I am hoping that the set comes down to about

$25 on Monday afternoon.

As for MAD MEN, I have been considering it,

but then decided I'll just watch it on Netflix.  I

really am trying to get out of buying TV shows

when I can easily watch them with my Netflix

subsription.  However, if I can't get the deal I

want on BACK TO THE FUTURE on Monday

I'll consider MAD MEN.

Target sort of screwed up in their BF ad, and displayed the LotR Trilogy BD amongst the titles on sale for $7.99 (they intended the individual LotR titles to be available at that price), but they would honor the price for the Trilogy BD version as well for the 2-day sale (ending Saturday after black Friday).

So, if you go to the Target website:

http://www.target.com/Lord-Rings-Picture-Trilogy-Blu-ray/dp/B003HPAYZG/

Click on the "Find it at a Target store" link, put in your zip code, and then check and see if any nearby store report it being in stock.  If it shows up as " limited availability" you still have a shot.

Be sure to write down the DPCI number: 058-40-0021, drive to the store, and give this number to a sales clerk and have them punch it into their handheld inventory device, and if it shows up as being in-stock, but isn't on the store shelves in the DVD area, have them check in the store room/back area for it.  You may get lucky.

I did this, and got lucky and picked up the trilogy set for $7.99 + tax.

At our Target they actually have a sign up that lists the trilogy as the item and says save $67 dollars above the $7.99 price. Unfortunately they were out and I didn't think to ask. Had I read Patrick's post first I might have been able to pick it up. Going to try a couple of other stores tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Ron, if you still want those Mad Men sets, today is the last day they are on sale at Amazon. Tomorrow they will most likely be $30 per season, instead of $10.

Same thing at our Target in Pittsfield, MA.  Was told no rainchecks on 2 day sale items.  Using Patrick's suggestion it looks like East Greenbush, NY is showing limited availability.  I'll be over there this afternoon and will check it out.  Maybe I'll run into Mike F.laugh.gif

I might've gone out to try if I didn't already order RotK from Amazon (and just received it today).  Sounds like it would've been a miss anyhow... tongue.gif but thanks for the heads up though -- and glad to hear you (and maybe some others) got in on this anyway...

Just increased my level of debt by $100 at Warner Archives.

I hit Walmart at 1 am and filled my cart with BDs, TV season sets, and video games.  Then I pared it down to The Princess Bride, Jumper, Night at the Museum 2, two PS3 games, and a Wii game.  (And some toys for Hanukkah presents).  I'm quite proud of myself -- my resistance was much lower in the DVD frenzy days.

The next afternoon we went to a different Walmart for groceries, and I stumbled across Michael Jackson: This Is It on BD for $10.  I hadn't even realized that it was part of the sale!
