A few words about...™ Deadwood -- in Blu-ray - Page 2

Carl is correct. As long as you watch the bonus material AFTER the season it follows, it won't spoil any plotlines for that or the next season. There is historical information about Hickock, Calamity Jane, Bullock and Swearengen, and later Hearst, but the show took some liberties with those characters anyway.

Yes it looks like that, but if there ARE spoilers, then this set fails in the disc ordering/packaging department IMHO. They could have made all the bonus discs last. Unless I'm wrong - which is why I'm asking.

Deadwood and Mad Men are my favourite series of all time. Worth repeatable viewings forever.

Interesting talk about the language. The explicit use combined with a shakespearian flair makes for a strange but effective cocktail. Listening to the first conversation between Swearengen and the old prospector Ellsworth was pure genius.

I came to think about the WWII movie The Dam Busters from 1955. The squadron leaders dog is called the "N" word, as it was for real during the war. Peter Jackson has been working on a remake and many speculated, whether the dog would still bear the name. As Robert points out, it is time appropriate and used in an historical context, shouldn't be changed.

The only problem is that it will overshadow everything else about the movie. If they're willing to go all the way for historical accuracy, more power to them but I hope they're prepared for it to be the only thing that the press will mention when talking about the movie. The movie could be so good that it literally cures cancer as it plays and the dog's name will still be what dominates the media coverage.
