The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the
RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the
RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

A note about Best Buy prices:  When available, I include Best Buy prices on new releases from their Sunday flyer.  The rest are taken from bestbuy.com.  Often, there will be discrepancies between the flyer and on-line prices.  If you plan on buying a high-profile new release title from Best Buy, I advise you to check both prices and act accordingly.  You can possibly take advantage of their on-line ordering with in-store pick-up, or get them to match their own on-line price, etc.  The price differences can often be substantial.

The Specials

---There are two EXCLUSIVE new Hanna Barbera animation releases this week which can only be found MOD at the WB Shop on-line.  Funky Phantom: Complete Series for $20.96 and Goober and the Ghost Chasers: Complete Series for $20.96 (whatever they are!  )

--Just a note that, for the first time in a long time, I have updated the "Disclaimer" Box which appears below the price tables in each week's WRU.  I have added a note about Best Buy's prices which reads as follows:

Quote:

Most long time RoundUppers will realize this is a constant issue.

There have been weeks when I itemized the difference.  There have been weeks when I found too many differences to itemize and issued a caveat emptor warning for readers that they should check.  And, there have been weeks when I make the assumption that everyone already knows this and will figure it out on their own.

I see the addition to the disclaimer as a way for me to remember each week to have that info available for newbies and for those of us who might forget.

I probably haven't made a change to the DIsclaimer Box since Circuit City went under.

--No real "specials" to speak of @ Bb this week.

--Best Buy has the following releases on sale this week ($19.99 Blu-ray, $9.99 DVD):  Nightmare on Elm Street, Jonah Hex, Splice, Lost Boys.

--The following Blu-rays are on sale at BB this week:

$9.99  Orphan, Hostel, Saw VI

$12.99  Friday the 13th, The Strangers, The Unborn, Final Destination, Paranormal Activity, The Wolfman

--Best Buy Odds and Ends:  A list of DVDs for $4.99 & $6.99 apiece.

--At Target this week, an EXCLUSIVE Deluxe Edition DVD of Sex and the City 2 for $22.99.  Only at Target!  50 minutes of bonus content, including exclusive featurette and packaging.  Quantities limited, no rainchecks.

--Also at Target, buy BOTH Predators ($24.99 BLu/$17.99 DVD) AND Mirrors 2 ($19.99 Blu/$14.99 DVD) on DVD or Blu-ray and save $5.

--Target is also advertising Pandorum @ $7.50 for either Blu or DVD and The Crazies for $13 on Blu or $10 DVD.

--Target Odds and Ends: None to report.

Mike,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your hard work every week. After the huge blu week on the 19th (moulin rouge, Romeo and Juliet, apocalypse now, rocky horror...) I think I may have to put the BTTF trilogy on the Christmas wish list. Just saw the re-release in the theater this afternoon, it was fantastic, and looked great as well, in case anyone was curious. Thanks again, and i hope to become a more visible presence here at HTF!

Welcome Tim !! You have joined the best forum/message board on the internet.    What blu ray im getting this week?    Just back to the future limited blu ray tin from UK.

Welcome aboard, Tim!

Huge week for me, I'll be getting the Alien set, the Back To The Future set and Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season Two Blu-rays. If I feel like going all the way into bankruptcy, I might also get Maniac on Blu-ray. I also get the feeling that I'll be buying Sex And The City 2 as a Christmas gift at some point but that can wait for now.

Thanks for the prices, guys!

Thanks as always for the RoundUp Mike and Patrick...and welcome aboard Tim!

I'm definitely interested in the BD Back To The Future trilogy and Alien Anthology set, but not at these prices. I can wait for the inevitable price drops...

Just like everyone else, I have both Alien and Back to the Future on my radar for this week.  I feel like I'm committing some kind of sin by admitting I've only seen the first BttF once and never seen the two sequels.  Chances are I'll pick that set up this week and leave Alien for the price drop (or Christmas gift cards).  The original Nightmare on Elm Street is also on sale at BB.com, so I may add that on Tuesday.  The other catalogue titles I've added to my calendar are usually on sale, so I'm not in a rush to grab them (Untouchables, Varsity Blues, Taken, Traitor, Sunshine Cleaning, Silence of the Lambs, etc.).

Probably nothing from the new release slate for me (on release week) as usual, but thanks much anyhow, Mike.  I like to be informed regardless of whether I actually buy anything.

But like many others, I do plan to eventually acquire some of the titles coming out this week -- yes, even that seemingly compromised looking BTTF boxset (at the right price).   Well, I suppose I *might* order the UK version of the Alien Anthology from Amazon UK before long (assuming it's indeed region-free) since the price there is much more palatable.

Thanks again, Mike (and Pat too)!

Wow, I'm surprised to see Costco's pricing match Amazon for BTTF and the Alien set. But these are 2 big titles! I'll be there.

I just pulled the trigger on the Alien Anthology at Amazon.co.uk. For $56.97US shipped I'm willing to put up with the "uglier" packaging and a 6-10 day wait on delivery. That's $33.02 cheaper than the US version at Amazon.com. Go Brits!

Nothing for me this week. I'll pick up BTTF and Winter's Bone when the prices come down. Just as well, because November's looking to be an expensive month.

Not the biggest series for me either, Jason.  I somehow just kinda passed it by.  I was a newlywed with young children when they were in the theaters...that's all I can think.  We loved Michael J. Fox on Family Ties however...

Ain't that a fact.

Man, I so want those Alien and BTTF collections but those are ridiculous prices....

I just couldn't resist that Alien Egg package, even at its ridiculous $150 price. It'll look good with my Terminator 2 head, Blade Runner briefcase and Planet of the Apes bust. Time to start collecting pop cans...

If you break down the price on the Alien movies, they're $22.50 a movie but there's 65 hours of supplements so given all that you get, the price isn't that bad. And the Back To The Future movies are $16 each.

The UK release breaks down to $14.25 per film. At that price the supplements are gravy. Now that's a deal.

Yeah, but don't you kinda have to count the last movie as a -1 and the 3rd movie as somewhere between 0 to +1/2 depending on how you feel about it (so count it as +1/4)?  So by that math, you'd end up at ~$90 / (1 + 1 + 1/4 - 1) = ~$72(!) per movie plus tax?

Besides, some/many of us already spent the big $$$ multiple times already on these Alien films -- IIRC, I actually bought both DVD boxsets during each set's first month of release myself.

PS: I actually don't hate Alien 3 like some do though I do find Alien Resurrection a bit of a tough pill to swallow.

For me, Alien Resurrection is fairly decent until the lame ending but even with that ending, I still don't think it's half as bad as Alien 3. Everyone loves David Fincher (myself included) but his later work doesn't make Alien 3 suck any less.

Mike:

I don't say it enough. Thanks for maintaining this list week in and week out.

I am in the same boat as others. Would love to own the Alien and BTTF sets but just can't justify the expense.

Thanks, Parker.

Amazon has dropped the price on that Chaplin @ Keystone set to just $59.99!

That's a great price on "Who Is Harry Nilsson" at Best Buy. Unfortunately, none of the stores between here and St. Louis are stocking it, but even with shipping and tax, it's still around $5-$6 less than Amazon. This is well worth seeing, BTW. I caught a screening of it a couple of weeks ago, and despite being fairly straight-forward from a story-telling standpoint, it is an excellent documentary. Some very cool music performances, including Harry singing on Playboy After Dark. Highly recommended for any Nilsson fan!

My local Costco had plenty of copies of Alien Anthology and BTTF. Sure I went nuts and spent a bundle on them!

For anyone in the downtown Manhattan area, J&R apparently has the BTTF BD set for $42.99, instead of the higher price listed on their site.  Oddly, I didn't spot any copies of the Alien Anthology BD set (during my late lunch break), but maybe that's also substantially lower than the site.  If you want BTTF at that price from them, I'd recommend going w/in these next couple days since J&R has been known to adjust their release week pricing upward before the weekend.  They also have the Winter's Bone BD for $17.99 (same as their site) for those interested.  And they still have certain other BDs on sale, eg. Halloween horror flicks, modest Criterion sale, etc.

And while you're heading there, you might also consider dropping by the $15/20 DVD/BD vendor nearby on Fulton St to check out what's left of their modest clearance sale.  They still had a few interesting titles at bargain prices when I checked yesterday, eg. Lives of Others for $5, Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus for $10, Vivre Sa Vie (Criterion) for $15.

Best Buy has a ton of Halloween themed BD's for 12.99 including Gremlins, all Friday the 13th movies, classic Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghost Ship, Shutter, Return to the House on Haunted Hill, The Orphange and more.  The store I went into had put Shutter Island on the same display.  The sign didn't specify Shutter Island (only Shutter), so it's probably a mistake.

My Alien Anthology Egg package arrived today.... was it worth $150....YES !!!! It's freaking sweet....
