New and very much improved "Site Stats" module on the Home page

The basic stats module was rolled out in one of the most recent releases.  This included the number of members, threads, posts, reviews, and wiki articles.

In the all-new enhanced version, we've essentially got the stats module on steroids with "leaderboard" content like the top 3 users with the most post, the most active threads, and the top rated posts.  You will be able to view these leaderboard stats for the last day, for the last 7 days, the last 30 days, or for all time.

New user preference to hid other users' featured "Stuff" in their signatures

Users can currently display specific image albums, lists, reviews, or classifieds in their signatures.  These special signature features are what we call "My Stuff".  This new user permission allows users to specify whether or not they would like to see these in signatures.  The permission is separate from the ability to disable free form user signatures - this way folks will be able to opt in to exactly what they're interested in!

Rolling over a username in a thread will now show the "user actions" menu with buttons to see their profile, subscribe to them, go to their admin page, etc.

Lots of other enhancements have been made so we can easier feature and limit items on the front page.

Bug fix: Featured "stuff" in signatures bled over into left-hand postbits

Previously on sites with left-hand postbits, featured albums / lists / reviews / classifieds were bleeding into the postbit.  This has been resolved.

Bug fix: Signature preview occasionally did not save signature changes

Previously, when using the signature preview, signature changes would not be saved on occasion.  This has been resolved.

Bug fix: "Select all posts by user" not responsive in certain browsers

This has been resolved.

Bug fix: Public Messages were appearing in chronological order, rather than reverse chronological order.

This has been resolved.  Public Messages on a user profile page now display in reverse chronological order with the newest at the top.

The site has come a long ways from when it first rolled out. It's starting to get to good now. Kudos for the effort. I like many of the new features. For example, the menu at the top of the page has vastly improved. I also like the drop-down rollover over the user name. Earlier I was wondering if there was a quick way to PM someone. After searching around I finally figured out to click the little drop down arrow (duh!), but if the rollover had been there I would've seen it right away.

Now I have to go check out the stats (not that I'm ever likely to be on the post leader board)...

The home page stats look interesting. Although it doesn't list any members for the "Last Day" selection. It does list the top 3 for the other selections.

And that's interesting, Bill...because I was pretty sure it did this morning.  But I don't see it now either.

Hmm they are there now.  Thanks for your comments Bill, its good to know we are on the right track.  We still have lots of enhancements on the way.

Sometime this week we will be rolling out the previously requested ability to have similes in your signature.  We will initially only be rolling it out for members with 50 or more posts.

Q:  Why do we want that top so-and-so posters listed like that on the homepage again?

If I somehow end up in the top few, I'm not sure I want to become so visible and attract all sorts of attention, some of which may be bad.  I'm just an HTF regular, not a staffer or anything.  And you never know on the internet w/ so much SPAM, phishing, etc. -- and yes, I've even actually had someone impersonate me in usenet before (back in the old days).

So unless there's a very good reason for having that feature, I would respectfully request that it be dropped completely.  I'd think it's more than enough that we already have post counts in our posting profiles *AND* the ability to look up posting history for each member.  We don't need more "highlighted stats" that can easily turn HTF regulars into potential targets for bad stuff on the internet.

Alternatively, since I suppose it can be kinda fun to have that feature for us HTF regulars and semi-regulars, maybe you can at least restrict visibility to just actual HTF regulars and semi-regulars, ie. those w/ a minimum tenure (maybe at least 3 months) + some sort of minimum average post count during the past week or month (say at least 1 post per day average in the past week or at least 1 every 2 days in the past month) + a minimum total post count (say at least 100 posts).

Actually, I'd prefer that be done for certain other privacy-impacting features too.

Right now, it seems like all these features are available even to complete non-members.  I just tried logging off to check the homepage, and sure enough, I can still see that top posters stats along w/ rollover profile features.  Not good at all for HTF members' privacy, etc.

You bring up an interesting point about the front page module.  We do think its fun to have for the regulars which is why we have it.  Does anyone else have any thoughts?  Would you rather that just be visable for logged in users?

I think it would probably be good to limit it to regulars and semi-regulars, if possible.  I guess some of my suggested requirements might be a tad high though.
