It ended a bit stronger than it started. Curious if it resumes this year.

I guess I took it wrong; I took it as though there is another portal that has always been on earth.. like the Bermuda Triangle or something that always linked with this alternate earth

That could be too. It's a good idea. I'll run it by my wife :)

I've been expecting to find out that this is "Earth" and not some alternate version. So the idea of alternate portals, from different times in history, is interesting.

My wife likes that idea. Thinks maybe the Hope Plaza group want to invade from Terra Nova in other fractures. Better to fight Conquistadors than Carnasours.

No..I understand that. But, their is no reason that they (the future) can't keep sending supplies back to them. Also, they can communicate (both ways) when the portal is open.

Yes there is.  Hope Plaza (the other end of the portal) was heavily damaged.  I think this could be a blend of Macgyver and Lost next season...assuming we get another season.

I am somewhat hopeful that this discovery of sorts leads them to find little tribes of conquistadors, etc.   But who knows if this show comes back.    But it would be a good way to mix things up.    Whoops!

I keep wanting to compare Terra Nova (or other such shows) to the marvelously cast and acted Star Trek : TNG...but then I remember that I didn't watch S1 and most accounts were it was a pretty dull season. It really came into its own around S3.

A time-traveling dinosaur show has so much potential. :)

This show has many, many problems but I don't think the cast is one of them. Jason O'Mara absolutely owns the role of Jim Shannon, injecting mischief and life where the script doesn't provide any. Stephen Lang is a total BAMF as Nathaniel Taylor, once again creating interest where there probably shouldn't be any. O'Mara and Shelley Conn have solid chemistry, and the children and them play off each other really well. Allison Miller had to create a cohesive character out of a character that was being yanked around in a lot of different directions by the plot, and she did a pretty good job.

It's hard to separate the solid performances from the terrible dialog and tired plots. If you want to see how bad a Brannon Braga show can be with a less solid cast, watch "Enterprise."

The actors are good, but the characters aren't extremely interesting. ST:TNG had a great diversity of characters, for me. The easiest current example for me is Ringer compared to Revenge. Revenge has such a more interesting set of characters. I like Ringer, but the characters are blander overall. Terra Nova is the same; the characters don't "pop" to me, compared to other action shows.

Absolutely true. Because of the performances, the characters are less bland than they should be, given how they are written. But they remain very bland. O'Mara and Lang pull against the blandness with sheer testosterone, but even their edges are a little too rounded.

I'm with you on that. The individual performances are all quite good, especially for new characters in the first half-season.

I like the notion that they're too "rounded". I want each to be more extreme in his behavior. I want Shannon to be hard bitten, Guy Noir, showing some sign that he gave all for his family, deeply defiant, and deeply punished for it...and cocksure from having beat the system.

Haven't read the entire thread, but from other sites looks like it will be renewed.

If I'm correct, the first season was shot in Quweensland, Australia. Supposedly Spielbergs way of avoiding the Hawaii look of the Jurasicc films. It was also shot in October-November of 2010,

How would they shoot a new season? Different location, excess footage from Queensland, somewhere more remote in Hawaii? How could they have the lead time to do the special effects?

Missed a few episodes until I discovered that Dish records over things unless you protect them, but would love to see move.

BBC's Primevil did it right.

Another site confirms that Fox has canceled Terra Nova. 20th Century TV hopes another network will pick it up.

So sad it's been canceled. I thought it was fairly well done.

To bad, since they could have moved from Australia to Hawaii to cut costs.

Probably to be replaced by another "procedural police drama". Much cheaper to produce and much to overdone at this point. Time for a little more variety in television and Terra Nova provided that.

Even though my earlier post looked like a positive outlook for Terra Nova, even I questioned it a little. Something like Terra Nova takes a lot of prep time.

Hopefully TNTs Falling Skies and SyFys Alphas will come back since the're not on the big 3 or 4 networks, and may stand a chance.

Hopefully this means one of the other Fox bubble shows I like has a chance.

Fox will definitely have open slots with House and now this gone; this bodes well for a show like Alcatraz, Finder or Touch.. of which I haven't really gotten into any of them

No real surprise that this one got cancelled. It seemed more like a Saturday morning show then a prime time one.
It was definitely more of a Saturday morning show, but very well done. I enjoyed it, not extremely violent and certainly more of a family style show.

To bad shows like this can't succeed once in a while. I'm no prude, but let's drop some bad language, some of the more gory violence and let a show like this make it.

I'm sorry this was canceled. It had plenty of flaws, dialogue and cheesy special effects tops amongst them. But I still watched it every week, thought it was getting more interesting toward the end of the season and hoped I'd get to see where they went with it in season 2.

I won't miss this. The only episode that was interesting, that seemed as if it tried to tell a story, was the last. I only watched because my daughter thought the obnoxious son was hot.
I remain surprised Spielberg put his name on this. It was far beneath his standards for both production and storytelling.

And suddenly Netflix is in the discussion to pick it up

Apparently the show was a huge moneymaker for 20th Century Fox overseas, so they're more willing than they'd normally be to subsidize some of the domestic costs to keep it alive.

It's a shame Lang can't find a more deserving show to feel this level of passion about.

Actually, some of us liked the show, thought it was well made, and was far better than some of the shows that were listed as examples of 'good sci-fi'.

I know I enjoyed this far more that BSG, which I found to be poorly made and usually distasteful.

I will miss Terra Nova

I'm always happy to have dinosaurs on TV. TN was much more in the vein of the original BSG, and more suitable for general audiences, than the new BSG.

But compared to the fantastic general audience scifi, like Star Trek or StarGate,...TN had a lot of room left for improvement. And if Netflix picks it up, the promise it showed might be seen in a second or third season.

I also liked this show, wish it had made it to a second, even third season. I found it to be great sci-fi.

Can't comment on BSG, have honestly never seen an episode.
