The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

Thanks as usual Mike!  I'm a bit surprised there isn't more promos around How To Train Your Dragon.  I was also hoping for a $19.99 price point.  I have already preordered it via Amazon as it is a great movie.  I'm also curious about WW II in HD.  I ordered Dollhouse S2 at Comic Con so that will hopefully be arriving soon.

Did some young lovely perform a suggestive sell at the convention, Adam?

Nothing for me, this week. I didnt know Magic was coming out on Blu.

Hard to belive Best Buy has it at a lower price then Amazon. But, even at $20, its too much. It's not THAT good!

Thanks as usual Mike.

Thanks Mike.   I'll be getting How To Train Your Dragon @ Best Buy w/movie cash (says children but it'll pay for a matinee).   Next week is going to be a Killer (Potter Ultimate Editions, Predators, Oceans & Crimson Wing).    I'll need the Weekly Roundup badly then.   And lots more coming up in the following weeks.

Is Best Buy really selling the 2-pack of How To Train Your Dragon for $2 less than the single disc?

HTTYD is my purchase this week.

No, it was the limited edition litho that did it.  I had it signed by two of the writers.  This is what it looked like:

Malcolm:  This may be a YMMV situation this week.  The 2-pack price was in the Sunday flyer.  The single disc price came from bestbuy.com.

Renting Dragon, but that's it!

Thanks,

guys!

I'll pick up The Darjeeling Limited on Blu-ray at some point but there's nothing for me this week.

Thanks for the prices anyway, guys!

The only way I know for me to reign in my recent movie spending is to simply not go to a store that sells movies.  How  to Train Your Dragon, Darjeeling Limited and Wolverine and the X-Men at some point when they're all on sale.  I fully expect HTTYD to hit a lower price point before Black Friday.  IIRC, Bee Movie dropped like a rock for that day a few years back.

Thanks guys for feeding my habit every single week.

I loved HTTYD, but the Blu will be much cheaper within a few months.

Picking up "Dragon" on Friday ... "Jonah Hex" will be a rental ...

Just preordered the "... Dragon" BD combo pack (w/ $5 eGift card offer) from B&N's site for $24.79+tax (as part of my kid's school bookfair purchase/contrib) -- couldn't use a regular coupon though since it was a preorder.  Seemed like a decent enough release week deal under the circumstance -- and I don't mind paying the premium for that once in a while for the kids, especially w/ the school bookfair tie-in (for which I also ordered the Maltese Falcon BD w/ a coupon at a decent net price)...

Already have the UK version of the Red Dragon BD, which I assume should be essentially identical to this US release.  There are a couple other releases of interest this week, but I'll probably just wait for some good deals for them later -- seems like we're getting lots of good deals w/ just a little patience lately (plus I still have a sizeable backlog of titles to watch anyhow ).

Schools do their book fairs now via internet?

Not sure about other places, but B&N apparently offers that option now -- it's actually a combination of the online site (w/ bookfair code) on top of the partnering local B&M store:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/bookfairs/index.asp?

I guess that's bound to happen w/ so many things getting online -- and doing it this way can get more of your family and friends involved too.

I'm getting older every day...and I sure feel it (some days more than others!).

Online book fairs.  Amazing.  I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.  It's just something I haven't thought of.

I loved The Darjeeling Limited when I saw it in theaters; it's a lot of fun and a nice cross between Wes Anderson's style and the Merchant Ivory texture. I'm not sure I need to own it, though, and I definitely don't need to own it at $24.99. Which is just as well, because October's shaping up to be an expensive month for books. Movies will have to wait until next month.

So is Rudolph actually HD or an Upconvert? $20 for an Hour Special is a bit steep.

Don't forget the 50th Anniversay Blu Psycho !

Is the Megamind ticket a Best Buy exclusive?  The movie passes aren't usually retailer exclusives, are they?  Strange that there aren't more deals or premiums, considering the amount of advertising they're putting behind this release.

If my son wants to see Megamind then it'll be worth picking up HTTYD for $23.  Otherwise I'll wait for a price drop.  (Speaking of Dreamworks Animation on Blu, they're re-releasing Bee Movie, Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Monsters vs. Aliens as BD/ DVD combo packs on November 30.)

Aaron:

YES!  The Megamind tickets ARE BB exclusives!  Sorry I didn't make that clear in the OP.  Only at Best Buy!

I have fixed the OP.

Based on the review at DVD Beaver, it sounds like it's actually HD:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_reviews52/rudolph_red_nosed_reindeer_blu-ray.htm

There are no extras, however. Also, there's  a blu-ray box (29.99 at Amazon) with 3 other cartoons (Frosty, Frosty Returns, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town):

Wal-Mart's website is indicating some kind of exclusive How to Train Your Dragon Blu-ray for $19.99:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/14967704.

The listing for the regular Blu-ray here http://www.walmart.com/ip/14904317 indicates that it has a DVD included as well as the Bonekeeper Dragon short.  What is the Wal-Mart exclusive? A Blu-ray release on its own without the DVD?  If so, does anyone know how to tell the two apart in terms of packaging?  A friend of mine in the area will be purchasing HTTYD for me at Wal-Mart on Friday, and I want to make sure they get the combo set, as I often loan out the DVD versions in my combo packs to friends without Blu players.  Would hate for her to accidentally get the wrong copy.

Wow.  I never thought I'd even consider an upgrade on this title...but those DVDBeaver screen caps are revelatory.  Look at the crying rag doll for goodness' sake!

anyone know if the Busby Berkley repackage is slims or digipak? never picked up the first time around and its at a decent price, the Christmas Box looks like a good bet as well,

Just out of curiosity, do you have an example of a blu-ray release where the primary program material is upconverted SD? I've never heard of this practice (of course excluding supplemental material).

From what I can see, I think you're right. The exclusive seems to be a BR only edition that Walmart can probably sell for less than the combo pack. It looks like the combo pack has a yellow frame around the cover and is named the Dragon Double Pack, so it shouldn't be too hard to mix them up.
