A site update was loaded today

  • Forum menu expands on mouse-over: The "Forums" tab of your site will now expand on mouse-over to display the full forum navigation structure, allowing users to access any individual forum from any page on the site.

  • Featured items in signatures: Users may now feature up to three items of their choosing, including reviews, lists, classifieds, and more, in their signatures.  Each item will include a thumbnail of the item, a link, and a brief description.

  • Users who "thumb up" a post are now displayed in the post footer: The "thumbs-up" feature has always existed in the post footer, but previously pressing that button incremented a post's rating and did nothing else.  Now, a number is displayed next to the button, and a user can click that number in order to see who has indicated that they like the post.
  • Homepage stats module: A new simple statistics module has been added to the sidebar of the homepage which highlights the number of members, threads, posts, reviews, and wiki articles that are live on the site.
  • Updated editor: A new version of the rich text editor will go live with this release, and should address a number of issues including the attachment button not working properly, images displaying properly, and smilies breaking when a post is edited.
  • Bug fix: Thumbnails should now display properly on the "Gallery" tab of the search results page.
  • Bug fix: RSS feeds now include new threads from both the selected forum and any child forums.

This may be coincidental, but email notifications of thread activity have been sporadic since the update.

Does anyone really care about that "thumbs up" nonsense?

Maybe they do.  I'm honestly asking.  I sure don't.

Some do, a lot won't.  More and more users are "facebook indoctrinated" and want the ability to "like" something. I decided to give your post a thumbs up to see what it was like.

Back atcha.  Tried it.  It is completely without meaning.  It is something I will also never even think to check.  But even if I did...what significance could it possibly have?

This inability to put my response AFTER the quote is really getting old, too, Adam.  Just sayin'.

Mine have been non-existent, and I've reported it to Huddler.

Do not be under any illusion, however, that this means the problem will get addressed. I'm not very popular there.

Mine started late this morning, Pacific Time.  I thought it was very odd I got no HTF update e-mails all afternoon and night.  And I just got them working correctly too!

The only emails I'm getting are for the threads in the reviewers area.

That's interesting. I'll subscribe to one and see what happens.

Simple cut & paste function has stopped working for me.  FF 3.6.10 & XP.

I am using ctrl+c and ctrl+v and nothing is happening.

That's kind of...important (and basic).

EDIT:  I have submitted a Bug Report to Huddler on this.

Very much dislike the new popup on the forums button, especially on the mobile browsers. It's unintuitive unlike the traditional forum jump I am on record of being a fan of.

Would you like it better if it didn't pop up with a mouseover, but required a click instead?

That seems like a start yeah.  Wont make a diff on mobile tho I don't think.

I guess its a bit of a catch 22.   That would make it easier for mobile, but a bit more confusing for others.  Right now it behaves the same way it did before when you click on it.  It takes you to the main forum listing.

I'm still having issues since this update.  I can't get a cursor to display outside of the Quote box if I'm quoting.  Sometimes my cursor doesn't appear in the reply box of a new thread period, which makes it impossible to correct mistakes.  Such as hi-lighting a word and pressing "del" to delete it didn't work since it didn't register the cursor.  I had to post my comment, then when "Editing" the post, I was able to fix it.  Not a big deal, but an annoying enough one.

I'm using Fire Fox 3.6 on XP.

Also, this forum still holds the title of being the only one I've encountered on the internet that doesn't support left clicking the mouse button to use the browser based spell check that's available in Fire Fox.  Just sayin'....

UPDATE:  I just posted in the "Gangs Of New York Take 2" thread, and I had to post/edit/cancel/edit/cancel/edit/post to get a cursor to display to let me clean up a mistake.  I'm guessing the update created page loading issues?

There are some issues with moving the cursor around in FF, especially after a quote.  I have found I get the best results with I click just under the quote box to the far left.  We are working trying to get these issues resolved.

We actually do support it with a one button work around.  Certain editor functions are available with the right click, so we don't want to be able to not access them.  If you want to get your FF right click menu, hold ctrl (PC) or Command (Mac) when you right click in FF.  It will give you the FF right click menu.

Russell- to help me better trouble shoot this do you experience the missing cursor only when you edit threads or when you try to create new posts too?  About what % of the time do you get this?

2: I can get the cursor up here, but not under the quotes, it's  no mans land under the quotes!

I didn't know about the "ctrl" button thing to get our mouse menus.  thanks for that!

1: The missing cursor is on new posts too, Not happening as much today as it did when I posted this. and it's 50/50 if it's going to show up when I edit.  I still can't quote posts I see.

FYI, no problem here typing below the quote, if that's what you mean.  Firefox 3.6.10.

Hey Adam,

I just had the missing cursor thing again while posting in the Music/ Lennon Signature boxset  thread.  I could type in the box, but hitting "Enter" wouldn't create a new paragraph.  I had to post and "Edit" to add the paragraph, the cursor showed up on the edit that time.

I came here to tell you, and I have a cursor again.  I don't know if it's random or dependent on which thread in which part of the forum.

Its random.  Its a bug between the editor we use (CKEditor) and FF 3.6.10.  The good news is the next version of FF, 3.6.11 is coming out on Tuesday (10/19).  Our developers have been doing testing with the beta and the new version of FF resolves almost all of the editor issues.

I missed or ignored this update note previously. Will watch for the "thumbs up" button. On Facebook, I enjoy the "I live this comment" feature. It's nice when someone "likes" something I've said, and likewise to note something good another said.

Goes to figure DaveF would eventually show up to say he likes thumbs...

Note my ironic thumbs-upping of your post smile.gif

I felt your thumb somewhere...

Are you sure you didn't press the "puzzle" button?  When I press it I go to the export to Wiki page, when I press teh thumbs up I give it a thumbs up.  I just confirmed this on your post (#25).

It was the Thumbs up button, but used in Mobile Safari in my iPhone. I'll try again later to double check that I was hitting the right one.

Confirmed: Thumbs Up on my iPhone links to an Expirt to Wiki page.

Odd.  Thanks for double checking, I'll open a ticket.
