Especially when trying to explain how Telford showed up on Earth!

It's sad that it's now the show it should have been all along.  An earth-like city made by distant descendants of the main crew's doubles is the kind of stuff I wanted to see.  It's like the Voyager silverblood crew, but with a time travel twist.  Why hasn't anybody on the ship tried to hook up with James?  I guess she's been pining for Scott until Lucian stud showed up.

The one weird thing about this show is the recaps.  Recaps usually just stick to the immediately relevant, but this show always shows things that just don't matter.  Last half-season, we saw that alien lurching forward and yelling every week.  Here, we keep hearing about Rush having control of the ship without telling anyone, and about Young killing Riley.

Another tense episode.  And next week is the series finale cliffhanger.  Remember that after that episode airs Joseph Mallozzi said he'd answer questions about the series and where they planned to go.

I am pissed that this was canceled.  In the beginning I was about to give up on it because it was slow and didn't seem to have a any sort of idea where it wanted to go but I stuck it out.  And as time progressed the show got better and was getting closer to SG-1 levels (for me anyway).

Last night's series finale "last scene" really made me sad that SyFy (man I hate that name) canceled it and that we'll never get to see what happens with Eli after the 3 years+ are over.  If we can't have a TV movie then I want a book to finish this off properly.

I guess this is it...

Man. The "cliffhanger" wasn't as bad as I'd feared, but I will always be cursing SyFy for cancelling this show at this point. It's heartbreaking, it really is.

For an unexpected series ending cliffhanger, it wasn't all that bad.  At least they weren't in the middle of a battle.  We know that series 3 would have been different with them presumably have moved ahead to the new galaxy.  It is really sad that SyFy really blew it with this series.  They really should have had more patience or just saved it for a summer series.

From the promo during the episode it appears that they are moving Eureka and Warehouse 13 to Monday nights as well for the summer.

By the way Joseph Mallozzi has a few more words about it and says

As promised, I will be fielding your questions on Gauntlet, the SGU series finale, as well as any SGU-related queries you may have.  So, start posting.

Later this week, in addition to providing answers to those questions, I’ll also shed some light on the script for Gauntlet, what we had in store for the show’s third season, and what the heck the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, was all about.

This is all on his weblog.

Mallozzi's most recent blog post is a quite interesting read.

Yes, I can see how many would view Gauntlet as an appropriate series ender but, as much as I love the episode, it still leaves me frustrated. More to the point, it leaves me frustrating knowing that, after 11+ years of resolving cliffhangers, this is the one time I won’t be able to come up with the answers.

Does Destiny make the jump to the other galaxy?  How long does the journey take?  Does Eli manage to fix the damaged pod(s) or find a way to extend the ship’s life support long enough to ensure his survival?  Does T.J. find a cure for her ALS?  Who does she get together with in the end, Young or Varro?   Does Lisa ever regain her sight?

I could provide some insight into what we discussed, possible answers to these burning questions but, ultimately, they’ll serve as little more than interesting footnotes to greater canon.  In the end, the answers are what you choose them to be.  In those final moments, we fail to make the jump to FTL with Destiny and, after two years of following its journey, we are left behind to wonder.  Maybe they do make the voyage in three years and our crew’s adventures will continue, only we won’t be privy to them.  Maybe, sadly, they don’t make it and that final glimpse of Destiny was a true farewell.  Or, maybe, Destiny is still out their, still journeying, its crew in stasis, destined to outlive all our questions.

Whilst I enjoyed this show more in the second season, I cant say Im disappointed or surprised to see it cancelled. Although there were more interesting elements introduced this season, and the pace of the show did improve slightly, it was never enough and i think much of the damage was done in the first season. Interesting to read Mallozzi's comment about how knowing he only had 20 episodes left would have allowed them to make more interesting creative choices. I think perhaps he should have considered this for the first couple of seasons.

Will Stargate return in some form ? I would expect so eventually but like Star Trek perhaps a break from TV is necessary for a while.

This is pretty comforting, actually:

Search me!  Unlike that imagined season 6 of Atlantis that never came to fruition (check out the AU season that might have been here: September 30, 2008: An AU Season 6!), there were no inklings spun, no stories established, no ideas from the previous season that could be moved into the next.  What we had, instead, were a few potential scenarios, vague notions of where we could go.

In other words, the writers had NO longterm plan at all for the show, they were just winging it and they weren't at all sure where it was heading.

There's some sane point between having every detail planned out before you're even sure you have a stable series and "winging it". I wouldn't want to downplay the amount of work that goes into putting together each season based on what's come before. Planning each season as it comes seems reasonable. We'll spend a lot more time during the journey than at the destination.

I think you missed this:

Brad and Robert had a mind-blowing idea for the series/franchise wrap-up and, in deference to them, I’ll keep my mouth shut and allow them to one day reveal their master plan

They knew exactly where they were heading, they just didn't have the route planned out all the way.

Just got done watching season 2 on DVD and all I gotta say is, what a copout! How do you end a series without fully resolving the storyline? I was starting to get into this series - the second season had a fair amount of thrilling moments, I was on the edge of my seat on more than one occasion. The time travel thing was interesting but ultimately pointless. Now we'll have to wait and see if they feel like making a movie to tie things off completely. With the allegedly low ratings the series suffered nobody knows for sure if it'll ever happen. Damn you, SyFy!

As discussed in previous posts, the blame for ending without any resolution resides squarely with SyFy. All of the episodes for Season 2 were finished well in advance of the cancellation decision.

That was not intended to be the end, so no it's not really a cop-out.
