Stargate Universe season 2 thread

Stargate Universe returns for its 2nd season on the SyFy channel tonight at 9 p.m. EDT.

Thank you for posting this.  I had no idea it would be on, on Tuesday nights.

Starting next week, it gets paired with Caprica, something that the Syfy brass were initially hesitant to do, incidentally.

I have no idea what to make of this episode.     Maybe I'm alone, but the b-story that was either a hallucination or what (?) was baffling,

I thought it was an interesting resolution to the cliffhanger.  The hardliner invaders appear to have been mostly killed and everyone is in Rush's debt for his contributions in getting control of the ship again.  Chloe appears to have been altered from her abduction to heal faster than expected.

As far as the B-story - I have no idea what was going on. The nebula in the sky that was seen in her dream appeared to be the same that they could see from the ship after they jumped.  That seems to appear that there was more going on than mere hallucination.

Wasn't too trilled wit it myself.  Last season, I didn't like that this was a three-parter.  They should have wrapped it in two, split across the seasons, or just wrapped it in the season finale.  Oh, well.  Now, the Maquis have to integrate themselves into the Federation crew.  Would have been cool if the exile to the planet had stuck and Destiny became a season one thing.  It's called Universe, so it doesn't have to be about the ship from now until series end.  They had a working gate and anything at all could have spun out of that.

The redhead can stay.

I took the B story as the aliens psychically brought TJ and her daughter back to the planet and that her daughter exists there now.  Does that mean that everyone on that planet is dead but alive on a different plane, ala 'the Ancients'?  Possibly - but we won't know because they won't be going back to check.

I took the nebula as a sign to T.J. that what she experienced wasn't a dream, but reality.  Remember what the guy said about how a lot of how things are is dependent on what a person believes.

And yes, the redhead SHOULD stay!  smile.gif

I think the show's getting better, but it's still got a ways to go.

I don't know.  The whole baby/nebula thing isn't going to help those who argue against this being heavily influenced by BSG.  But, yeah, we're supposed to take it both ways.  The baby died as far as most people are concerned, but she now believes it really was transported thanks to seeing the nebula twice.  And, we're to take it either way we want--at least, unless the story is further developed.  It kind of seems like an elaborate way to keep TJ on the show without needing to tote around a baby all the time.

Tonights episode looks quite interesting...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Apparently, Rush discovers the bridge?!

With any luck, Rush will have learned some humility from his mistakes this past episode.

I was kind of surprised that they

killed off Riley. Sure, he's a minor character at best but he's loved by fans and with his constantly getting injured and recovering - most recently as late as last week, in fact - I figured he'd be safe at least for a while. Oh well. I guess the point is that Rush now has an actual crew member's life on his conscience, and a well liked person at that. I wonder if it's going to have any lasting effect on him.

Anyone else still watching this? This last episode was quite... interesting. I'm very curious about where the series will go from here.

Yes, I saw it last night.  It seems that Young and Rush have reached some kid of detente.

Now, the end of the episode implies something quite dark is about to happen.  I wonder how Simeon (Robert Knepper's character) was unescorted there at the end. (It wouldn't make sense for her to be in an area where he would be unescorted.)

I am mostly intrigued by the revelation of the Destiny's true mission. It's pretty big stuff and I wonder what they've got planned for that...

I still enjoy watching it. We've had Jaffa, Goa'uld, Wraith, Ancients, and Ori. It's kind of difficult to top that for bigger and more powerful beings, but it looks like that hasn't stopped them from trying. I would really appreciate it if there was some way the show could give the viewer a sense of space. They do throw little things out there like the space between galaxies, but it's easy to get lost in terms of exactly where they are. At least with Atlantis, we had the Milky Way galaxy, then Pegasus Galaxy. There are many other Galaxies (Andromeda, etc.). But for the life of me, I have no mental image of where exactly the ship is in terms of known space.

I was a little irritated when T-Bag showed up unescorted to corner the girl as it seems to make no sense with everything established before. Still, there could be an upcoming explanation.

I still watch, though I'm typically pretty cool towards the show.  Last night's was one of the better.  They've needed to explain just what this show is about for a long time, and they're finally getting to it.

Not sure what Simeon hopes to accomplish, unless he just doesn't believe the story about the stones.  My thought when Ginn transferred into the scientist's damaged body was that she would die on earth and the scientist would now permanently inhabit her body.  That still may be the ultimate effect, since the show really likes to mess with Eli.

When someone is killed while in another persons body, they both die. At least; that's what has been assumed so far... I guess this is Simeon's plan.

I know huh?!  The poor guy is finally getting some and Bam! possible no more girlfriend.  You really have to feel for him.

It's finally getting pretty good.  I don't think it made much difference that Rush killed Simeon.  If he had gone back as ordered, Simeon would have been left behind anyway.  If he had tried to take him alive, it probably would have taken longer than even the extra time.  The only chance would have been sparing him after the stampede, but I doubt he would have even survived being transported back to Destiny.  As in the real world, when you lose an intelligence source, you have to find another.

Simeon did say that he had information.  Rush could have tried to bargain with him by promising a quick death (which he gave him anyway) instead of a lingering one on that planet.

I know he said that, but anything he said right then and there would probably have been of limited value.  Mainly, though, this episode proved again how much the writers hate Eli.  We may need Chris Crocker to make a video.

Yeah. He just murdered one of his own people to keep her from giving away any useful info... he wasn't going to talk. Furthermore; holy crap.... was this one of the most intense episodes in Stargate history or what?

Something has changed with this show and I'm not quite sure what.  Is it the directing, the writing, the acting or what?

I've always just kind of watched it hoping that it would get better.  It wasn't quite a train wreck but not SG-1 quality either.  However, to me these last two or three episodes have been really, really good.  And this last "Simeon" episode was absolutely fantastic.  I actually felt for the characters.  And poor Eli.

I agree last couple of episodes have been really good but we had this last year at a similar point about the halfway mark

For me the show is painfully slow at revealing the overall arc and the individual episodes are not strong enough by and large.

However, Im going to stick with it for now given the last couple of episodes but I have a feeling I may end up giving up before the end of the season.

Nope. We are simply being given payoff after lots and lots of build-up. smiley_wink.gif

Yep.  We needed to have *some* idea of what the end goal was, other than "we keep going from FTL drop to FTL drop and hope to find a way home."  Now that something to work towards, and the characters know the doctor will lie just as soon as tell the truth, we're finally getting somewhere.

Col. Young told Eli he wasn't a trained soldier. Big deal, he would not be any more inept than our soldiers were when confronting one Alliance soldier. Keystone Kops come to mind.

Also when Rush rounded the large boulder and saw the explosive mine, he chose to run further away in the open, rather than retreat a few steps backward where the boulder would have provided him protection.

Mid-season finale tonight. I haven't read any spoilers or seen any previews, but I think it's safe to assume we're in for a big episode.

You know, I didn't feel it was a big episode.  The ending cliffhanger was good but not epic.  Not for me anyway.  But I certainly did enjoy it and feel that the show has turned a new page.  I'm looking forward to it starting back up again in the new year.

When the one person warned them "why get off track and go investigate.. has that ever worked for us?"  I thought: BINGO.   The fact they went through with it and followed up -was- keystone cops.  It was ridiculous in the extreme, IMHO.   This whole show has kind of just been off the rails.  I don't think the writers have any plan at all for what should happen as the series progresses.
