What is it that you mean when you say, "knew of Year One? "

BATMAN: YEAR ONE is the first DC release I won't have the money for. I knew shouldn't have splurged on that INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN DVD this August. Ah, well, I'm gonna record it off of pay-per-view Tuesday, and acquire it as a DVD-R, for the time being. It looks sweet to me. I hear they get away with using the F-word this time in one of their animated features. Personally, I think DC is doing too much Batman. They need to get off him. Every other release has something to do with him. Love to see a SWAMP THING animated movie.

I *think* I remember reading somewhere that the only animated titles for DC selling well are those involving Superman or Batman.  I don't understand why, personally, since both Wonder Woman and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights were quality entertainment...and All-Star Superman was plain awful.  Plus, you gotta think DC wants to do as much Batman tie-in as it can for Dark Knight Rises next summer and then Superman with Man of Steel in 2013.  Just like they released Emerald Knights with Green Lantern this summer.  You're in for some rough times if you're getting tired of the bat.  :)

The next three movies all involve Supes or Bats in some way (Justice League: Doom, Superman Versus the Elite and The Dark Knight Returns).

Yeah, I know the films they got coming, and I'll probably get them, if the money is there. All the non-Batman and Superman flicks get relegated to short films. Still, I'm looking forward to that 2-part THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. A FLASH movie would be nice, though.

Just finished watching BATMAN: YEAR ONE, and I'm glad I didn't buy it. Very disappointing. Let's just say if BATMAN BEGINS didn't exist, I'd probably like it. But since Nolan borrowed elements from the graphic novel this was based on, it just felt like a pale imitation of his flick. Animation kicked ass, but I wasn't thrilled by the story. I'm sick of seeing heroes in the beginning of their career, or when they're teens. Give them to me in their prime, when they can kick ass without breaking a sweat.

Comic Book Movie:

Head Writer Chris Yost Teases Season Two Of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Season Two of Avengers: EMH will be going cosmic but will also have Secret Invasion undertones. The season also boasts an insane amount of cameos and guest stars. Details after the jump.
Speaking to CBR, writer Chris Yost shared the following details about Season 2 of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes which will air sometime in "early 2012".
You ended the season with a pretty big cliffhanger. What does that mean for the premiere episode of Season Two?

Yost: Right, in the finale we wrapped up the Asgardian War and the Loki story. Then we had a little surprise at the end there when Captain America is attacked and replaced by a Skrull agent. I believe the last line of dialogue in Season One is, "The Infiltration has begun." Fans of the comics know that the word infiltration leads to much bigger things.

When Season Two starts with a little episode called "The Private War of Doctor Doom," which we screened at Comic-Con, the Captain America on the team is not the person his teammates think he is. So in Season Two, which our producer Josh Fine calls 'Our cosmic season,' you're going to see a lot of things like Skrulls andKree and the Guardians of the Galaxy. We really want to deliver the big fun cosmic aspect of the Marvel Universe.

With the Skrull invasion playing such a big role this season, is one of the important thematic questions of Season Two, "Who do you trust?"

Yost: As a matter of fact, there's an episode called "Who Do You Trust?"

Since they play such big roles in Season Two, how similar and how different are the Kree and Skrulls to their comic book counterparts?

Yost: I think we were pretty faithful to the comic versions. The Kree are basically the Spartans of outer space. They are a very militaristic society lead by a big blob head named the Supreme Intelligence. You'll see the whole gamut of the Kree, including people like Ronan the Accuser. We've already introduced Captain Marvelinto the show, and you'll see a lot more Ms. Marvel too. She comes back into the spotlight and joins the team.

You're going to see a lot of Skrulls too. I've told Brian Bendis that I owe him about 500 beers for writing large chunks of our season [Laughs]. Everybody in the comic book world knows what's coming. I'm not spoiling anything really by saying you're going to basically get "Secret Invasion" this season. Obviously, there will be some changes. We don't have as much time to set it up, but we're going to do our best to make sure we do things right, and by right, I mean as close as we can get it to the comic book version.

You mentioned Ms. Marvel. Will the Avengers get any more new members in Season Two?

Yost: We put out a little teaser and a certain synthezoid (Vision) appears in it. Who's to say whether he's a villain or a hero though? And as much as we focused on the Avengers in Season One, in Season Two we're really trying to expand the Marvel Universe. So you're going to meet a ton of new heroes and villains. We're really going to open up the Marvel U.

Speaking of opening up the Marvel Universe, you mentioned the first episode of Season Two is called "The Private War of Doctor Doom." Will Doom's archenemies, the Fantastic Four, appear in the episode?

Yost: Yeah, absolutely. The Fantastic Four are guest stars in the first episode. It's a big team-up brouhaha and it's a ton of fun. That episode is one of my favorites, and it includes a Thing poker game.

We know about Doom and the FF, and earlier you mentioned the Guardians of the Galaxy. Will they be the only other non Avengers-related heroes and villains in Season Two? Since you're sort of adapting "Secret Invasion" this season, is there a chance we'll see Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors?

Yost: You'll see a version of them.

Whose perspective will we be viewing these characters from? Which members of your main cast will you be focusing on this season?

Yost: Cap, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man are kind of the focus. Everything runs up against the "big four." I have great love for characters like Wasp, Hawkeye and Black Panther, and the great thing about Avengers is that we can deal with all of them. It's truly a team show.

Of course, it's always going to be a little more focused on the big name guys, but I really want to get the little guys into the mix as well because they're part of the fun. We all know Cap and Iron Man, but we don't always see how Iron Man deals with Black Panther or how Cap deals with Wasp. Those team-ups are interesting, and that's what I love about this show.

Well, I'm okay with that cover art if they change Superman's cape.  It looks like it goes on forever and it's just silly.

I don't like that weird bulge in his gut. They need to get rid of that, too.

The characters in the back are much too large, they shouldn't be bigger than the building. I guess they're giants.

For the most part this looks good, it's just those digressions into "animated sight gags" that has the potential to kill this whole thing for me. What say you all?

Saw the 2-part ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN premiere this morning and I have to say it's got the best action animation I have EVER seen for a Marvel/DC super hero cartoon series. Character animation is good, too. What will take some getting used to is the rampant comedy, and the min-sketches the show diverts to. If the animation wasn't so top of the line, the comedy would kill it dead. Some of the skits and dialogue were actually funny, but there's WAY too much of it on this series.

Interesting to note there is no opening credits song/music. The opening credits feel more movie oriented. The show simply starts with the credits rolling along, then after Spider-Man thwarts a crime, or gets into trouble, THEN the ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN title shows up. Very nicely done. I was dreading some stupid song, like SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN got.

For those wondering if ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN will be airing in other countries, this was posted on the Liveblog that was going while the 2-part premiere was airing: "For those fans asking about international premiere dates for Ultimate Spider-Man, we're working on getting those for you, but you'll have to stay tuned--nothing we can announce just yet."

For those who missed the premiere it will be repeating tonight at 8pm on Disney XD.

In this weeks TV Guide they have a brief article on the May 6th episode of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN. Noteworthy, due to Parker taking on the Hulk, and the fact that the entire episode is done in the manner of a "found footage flick." The entire ep is seen through the eyes of a cell phone camera. There's also an explanation at the end as to why the vibe of the sure is the way it is: "So often in Hollywood, creative people are hired and then handcuffed, but Marvel didn't want us tied in any way to Spider-Man's history," says MOA's (Man Of Action) Steven T. Seagle. "They said, 'What if he'd never been created for the comics? What if he was created today specifically for animation? Let's start over!' And that's what we did. It's been very liberating."
