75" Mitsubishi LaserVue (L75-A91) (1 Viewer)

On Saturday September 11th, I took a 1.5 hour drive down to Primetime Audio/Video of Rockford Ill, in order to obtain a first-hand view of Mitsubishi's 75" LaserVue television. Note - aside from titles and transitional inserts, this video has not been edited or altered in any way. The lighting of the room was dimmer than what appears in the video, I suspect that my camcorder (Sony HDR-CX12) automatically compensated for the lower light of the environment. This has resulted in the television's brightness being altered and colors are somewhat washed out. It actually looks better than portrayed in my video! Also I purposely shot video from an extreme angle to illustrate the viewing angle of this set. Again it is far better in person than as portrayed in the video.

Added the few photos that I had taken with the 5mp camera on my Droid - excuse the blur, not the best camera for taking good looking photos.

wow, it looks so awesome.

It actually looked better in person. In compensating for the low light condition of the demo room, my HD camcorder boosted light sensitivity, leaving the TV a little washed out. I was impressed with the viewing angle, which again was far better in person. If you can find a dealer in your area with one on display, you should check it out for yourself.

 

I am sold, and hope to be taking delivery of one in November!

hello Greg, how would you compare between the mitsu laser vue and the pioneer elite pro 151 ?

the Mits is 15" bigger and the Elite is no longer made.

I was waiting for these to come out before replacing my old TV, but they just took too long. I also gather from the lack of a price mentioned here that it's one I probably can't afford.

Madison area - I'm planning another trip down in October, to take a buddy of mine down to see the LaserVue.
 

Anyone who is thinking about a purchase within the next 2-3 mos want to pool our buying power and see if a multi-unit price can be negotiated? I am planning to use their "12-month zero interest" plan (keep my cash earning interest in my bank), and hope to make a purchase toward the end of October, or in early November.

My current HD set (65" Mitsubishi CRT based RPTV - WS65907) set me back $5K in October of 2000. It has no HDMI and no ATSC tuner.

 

The L75-A91 was sale priced within $1 (yeah I said "one dollar") of what I had paid for my TV ten years ago. I have seen it for as high as $1,000 more, and as low as $600-$800 less. For me, this technology, the quality of the build, the stunning colors and the detailed images warrant the sale price that I had see, however my ten year old television did not require a stand, so I am hoping that a basic stand, as well as delivery of some sort could be negotiated into that pricing.

SpenceJT - congrats on the purchase. My 67 Samsung DLP just died and I am looking at the Mits DLP's and was wondering how you came to choose the Laservue vs. the Diamond series 838 model. I have not been able to see the laservue in person, but every review and person I spoke with say the picture is just out of this world and worth the price difference between these models. I am hesitant to spend double the amount for a dlp with laser lighting. We do watch a lot of movies and sports and I think the laservue would be worth it, but i cannot see one live!

LaserVue is an off-shoot of DLP technology, which replaces the color wheel and bulb with bright red blue and green lasers. The energy efficient lasers produce accurate colors, which are bounced off of the DLP micro-mirror chip. The 75" television operates on just over 120 watts.

so how does it compare to the best plasmas and lcds out there?

 

I am headed back down to Rockford in October to once again see the LaserVue demo. I will undoubtedly take along my camcorder for this second trip, and am planning to (out of personal curiosity) bring along my IR thermometer, to compare temperatures on the back of the LaserVue with that of LCD, Plasma, and DLP sets along with a VU meter to measure the level of any fan noise.   For those who have not yet seen the television in person, is there any particular camera angle or measurement that you would like me to obtain? Keep in mind that I am far from a professional, so I don't have any equipment that can obtain technical levels on color or brightness.   I am going to disable the auto-focus, and see if there is a way to bypass the auto-iris (for lack of a better term) on my camcorder, and attempt to obtain footage, more close to that of what I had actually seen.   I would be happy to bring along an extra demo Blu-ray title or two, should anyone have suggestions for any high quality demo worthy video.
