The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

Me.  Wifi.  Library.  Adirondacks.

So...a few extra hours of RoundUp this week.

Happy Labor Day everybody!

I'll be picking up The Office: Season Six DVD and THX-1138 Blu-ray this week and at some point, I'll get the Supernatural: Season Five Blu-ray.

Thanks for the prices!

Chuck Season 3 for me.

Doug

Thankfully nothing for me this week, considering the number of discs I picked up at the end of last week.  Not even a cheap BB catalogue title.  :)  Stardust will be a pick-up when it comes down in price, as will Smallville.  I can wait for both of them.

Thanks for keeping the faith all these years !!

Nothing for me, although I might bite on the TCM Hammer Collection (not sure if I have any of those titles yet!)
And a Happy Labor Day to those that actually have the day off!

EXCELLENT! I just mentioned i would buy GHOSTBUSTERS if it was on sale the other day. well, I CAME! I SAW! I BOUGHT IT FOR 9.99!!!!

plus troopers and yuma later in the week. prices appreciated as always MR. MIKE!

Now, that's dedication, Mike!  Have a great rest of your weekend!

You can find the review for the Blu-ray release of Smallville: Season Nine here.

Thanks Mike!

The Player on BD!  Had forgotten it was coming out around now.  Will probably just wait a bit to get it at a nice price since that seems to be the trend these days for catalog titles -- maybe it'll drop to ~$13 or so w/in a month or two (and certainly by BF time me thinks).  I've got too many titles in my backlog anyhow.

And yes, thanks much, Mike (and Pat)!

PS: Didn't realize Scarlett Jo was in Black Dahlia.  Maybe I'll give that a rent even though it's been widely panned.

Couldn't have been her fault, Man!

Thanks, everyone.  Hope you all had a good weekend.

Kevin posted his MacGruber review: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/303676/htf-blu-ray-review-macgruber.

I know a log of others are on the way:

Camp Rock 2, Chuck Season 3, Forbidden Planet, Lost in Space, Mars Attacks, The Office Season 6, The Player, The Phantom, THX 1138, Supernatural Season 5, and a few more.

Is the "Poltergeist" BD something new, or is it just a price drop? Been wanting to pick that one up.

Probably just another non-digibook reissue of a previously released Warner digibook title.  Would be surprised if the disc actually has any different content on it.

I think there might be a couple of such releases this week (A Scanner Darkly, Matrix Reloaded?).

I just got "The Office" season six on blu-ray and it has the worst multi-disc case I've ever encountered. There are no hubs to hold the discs in, instead there are tabs along the edges, so you have to snap the disc out. Anyway I bought it at Target and the bonus DVD has two Extended episodes (to about 30 minutes in length). None of the extra footage is included as deleted scenes on the actual set. It would have been nice for this content to be included on the actual set in HD. They can make the episodes as long as they want in my opinion and I wouldn't complain.

I updated with links to reviews of Mars Attacks, Phantom 2010 Miniseries on DVD and Blu-ray, and The Office Season 6.

Based on these reviews I am going to wait for a good sale to pick up Mars Attacks, but I will now be picking up the Phantom because of Tim's review.

I will be buying The Office: Season 6...and I really want to find out the differences between the bonus discs at Best Buy and Target.

Jason:  Can you give me any more specific info on the Target disc?  I just read Kevin's review of his screener (which lists each episode and how long the additional deleted scenes were for each episode).  Can you explain for us anything further about the Target disc and what episdoes and length of the material, etc?

And, can anyone fill in info on the Best Buy bonus disc?

I just found this information on officetally.com:

Quote:

Best Buy disc has two features.

1- Best of Cold Opens (40 min)

2- “That’s What she Said” Fast Reel which is just under 4 1/2 min.

And...about the Target disc:

Quote:
Haven’t had a chance to watch them yet but I figured I’d pass along that the two extended episodes on Target’s edition are “Sabre” and “Whistleblower.”

And Kevin's review clearly shows that those are the only two episodes which DON'T have deleted scenes on the release.

I HATE retailer exclusives.  I really do.  Especially when they so clearly involve screwing with what should be normal content.

^ From the sounds of it, the Best Buy disc is just a compilation of existing footage but the extended episodes on the Target disc seem like they have some substance.

I'll be heading to Target.

I know I've seen that "That's What She Said" compilation somewhere.  But, for the life of me, I can't remember where.

Totally agree. At least (from what I've read elsewhere) most of the Lost retailer exclusives ended up as extra features on the eventual Blu-ray releases or Blu-ray complete series set (with the exception of the Best Buy Season 6 DVD set exclusive).

The episodes on Target exclusive bonus disc are labeled on the menu as "Producer's Extended Cut" and the running times are (compared to the regular cuts on discs 3 and 5 of the DVD edition):

Sabre
30:30 Producer’s Extended Cut
22:07 regular cut

Whistleblower
28:17 Producer’s Extended Cut
22:08 regular cut

I haven't watched them yet; those times are from a quick check of the discs on the computer while on lunch.

Question #2 for anyone who cares to weigh in:

I purchased The Office: Season 5 on DVD rather than Blu-ray...even though I will buy most new release films on Blu when given the choice.  At the time, I remember thinking that there was no difference in features and I didn't think there would be that much of an upgrade in quality to make up for the price difference.  It also allows me to share with family but that has become less of an issue.

Anyone disagree?

Figured it out!  It was on YouTube.

I wonder if there's ANY chance this could be the same featurette as what's on the BB disc:

Yeah, the featurettes and deleted scenes from the S1 and S2 bonus discs are on the regular Blu-ray sets and then the S3, S4 and S5 featurettes and deleted scenes are included with the series set.

I don't.

Especially on half-hour comedies.

I'll respectfully disagree with you and Dustin.  For me there is nothing worse than watching a show on TV in HD regardless if its a comedy or action/drama and then having to get and watch it on DVD.  If it aired and I watched it in HD I want it on Blu-ray.  In my house I have a Blu-ray player on almost every TV so I can watch it on almost any TV.  I don't mind loaning discs, but I try to avoid loaning out TV seasons as it seems to take forever to get them back--maybe my friends are just less responsible than yours .
