Russound speaker selector and clipping issue with Yamaha RX-V1400

Seeking collective wisdom here. . .  I am trying to run 3 sets of speakers (living room, kitchen, and deck) from this A/V unit which I bought new some years ago and just had repaired because it grew tired of shutting down under load. I purchased a Russound SDB 6.1 speaker selector with separate volume controls. The deck speaker had another Russound outdoor volume control. The A/V unit would routinely shut off with error message "check spk. wires" when volume was turned up but not to the point where it was particularly loud and not even when all of the speakers were in use. Even powering a single pair in the living room, the unit would shut itself down. The Russound piece is impedence matching and presumably a higher quality piece of equipment suitable for the desired task. Yesterday I plugged the speakers (kitchen and living room) directly into A/V unit through speakers A & B and turned the volume up. It became deafening in my home and the A/V unit had plenty more to give with no error messages. So, what is the problem in this equation? Is it possible that the Russound unit is simply bogus and in need of repair/replacement? Needless to say, this is all very frustrating. What does the HTF think about all this. Looking forward to some input. . .

Check the impedance that the receiver is seeing.  Sounds like your speaker selector is the problem.
