Sorry about the delay in updating the list in the OP. I just haven't been online much of late, but am now caught up and have included everything submitted from the last few weeks, for which thanks. I also included the Harlow titles, all of which have trailers.

Anyone know if the trailer made it on the Cagney starring TAXI DVD?

Also, I would like to change the font of the titles in the Master List, but can't see any option for doing so when I edit it. ???

Thanks Bob. No sale for me then, my TCM copy will suffice. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why some of these get trailers and others don't. I find it hard to believe that they don't have the materials for most of the trailers from the early 30's to now as I've seen a bunch of them, including TAXI, on TCM.

I agree I have seen or have trailers on other media that has not got on DVD for reasons unknown to me. Many British DVDs of older films have no trailer added but surely they must have some survive. I know that some trailers get rehashed for a reissue and often this is included on the new trailer as a note or even the film(like some Republic films) might say Reprint. I have never found an answer but when the WB/First National films were sold to TV those were sold to the same network in Australia and probably stored at Bonded Services who had a fire along the way. A rumor went around for years that the only copy of Bing Crosby's MGM film, Goin' Hollywood 1933) was destroyed in that fire. Not true, of course. Anyway the network showed trailers to these films but I can't say it as all of them but those they did show all had the 1930s-40s Warner Bros logo at the start. None that I have on LD or DVD have this opening logo on trailers.

Was there a Cagney trailer reels as a featurette on any early Cagney WB disc?

Early on, it made sense not to include a trailer if it would negatively affect the bitrate of the movie within a DVD5 disc. Now that DVD9 media are being used for WAC titles, it's more puzzling. Perhaps they prefer to keep titles that maintain high bitrates on DVD5 media on those discs at the expense of trailers and other extras? I imagine the DVD9 discs are more expensive to use.

On a different note, do any other Warner Archive titles have a completely unique menu like Athena has? I found its menu very refreshing--just like the WB retail discs!

Hardly. A trailer takes up a negligible amount of space, really. I don't think they are purposely left off - perhaps the person who authored the disc didn't have access to it or know that one was available. That makes more sense than, "Well, this here 3-minute trailer, we have to leave it off to keep the bit rate up on the feature, see?" No, I don't believe it is that thought out, especially when the titles people are bemoaning the lack of a trailer on have more than enough room for them left on the disc even after the feature film video and audio encoding.

That's exactly right, Chuck. I am finding trailers for movies like ONE WAY PASSAGE readily available on YouTube, but for whatever reason it was left off the WA title and that movie runs only 67 minutes. No bitrate concerns there. I honestly don't think it's too much to ask for that one tiny extra given what they are charging for these things.

Odd deviation from the norm, but I'm glad they added it. The original full-length trailer for TICK...TICK...TICK... can be found on Synapse Films' trailer compilation 42ND STREET FOREVER VOL. 2: THE DEUCE, so perhaps they chose the TV spot in order to have an exclusive item.

I think the Archive will include stuff like TV spots when they can as a little add bonus content because they have access to it and can add it to the DVD cheaply, just like they did with Naughty Marietta when they added the LUX radio show.

Would that they could include BOTH trailers and TV spots and maybe even radio spots, but I know, I know, what do I expect for 20 bucks? smiley_wink.gif
