Unexpected changes in subscriptions

I have my subscriptions set up to "site only, no e-mail".  Regardless, every week or two, sometimes more often, for the past few months I've gotten a "Home Theater Forum Updates for XX-XX-XXXX" e-mail with a link to a new post in one of my subscribed threads.  Each time, going to my subscription preferences has shown that thread in question has automagically altered itself to "Daily e-mails".  So I change it back, & that sticks for a while, then changes again.  What is going on, anyway?  Does this have something to do with the Huddler update process?

OK, I think I have worked this one out.

Every time I reply to a thread, even one for which I have an existing subscription, the "Get notified when others reply?" selector at the bottom of the Quick Reply box defaults to "Daily Digest" no matter what.  I must have been changing my subscription status every time I replied in a thread.  This seems like an error ;  the default option ought to be "no change", I think.

You need to change the setting in your profile. It's currently set to "automatic" (which, BTW, I still haven't figured out). Set it to "don't subscribe", and that's what will appear as the default below the reply box.

This will not affect threads to which you are already subscribed.

Am I the only one who finds it at all strange that changing settings in the profile now requires one to furnish country of residence, postal code, & date of birth information?  Birth year I could understand, for legal reasons, but the exact date could reasonably be considered sensitive personal information, especially given the long-standing HTF "real names" policy.

Its age verification for the DMCA.  Its easier to verify if we have your full birthday.  For "old guys" like us its kind of irrelivent, but if you were of age this year we would need to know the date.  Its up to you what you put, but it would be nice to have an accurate month and day in case we re-institute the HTF birthday list.  What you put is not shared with anyone with the exception of in the future maybe having your name listed on your special day (with no age).
